And The Winner Of American Idol Is
Last night American Idol crowned their 13th winner. Much like the previous four or five winners, Caleb Johnson will probably disappear after a year or so. After the obligatory few red carpets and radio appearances and launch of his record which will probably not do so well he will quietly be dropped from the label and in interviews in a couple of years will talk about how he is writing new material and can't wait to get back in the studio and sell a record that even less people will buy. It is too tough for winners to make their mark although they do much better than their other talent show competition. I think the winners think they will be catapulted into some type of Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson life changing experience but that is really unlikely. If there is a chance for anyone it is probably Jena Irene Asciutto since she is just 17 and there always seems to be room for young teens to get a record made and sold. No guarantee, but I think she has a better shot. What you should do if you win is go ahead and make your record and hope for the best, but use your initial fame and go do some Broadway. That is something you can make a career of and your winning status will help you get leads you would never have received otherwise.
I thought you would mention Ryan Seacrest tried to sing a Richard Marx song and MAJOR FAIL! If that's the afternoon video, avoid it like its the plague :(
ReplyDeleteHuh. Did not even know that show was still on.
ReplyDeleteI am quite certain that the Enties will still be talking about this dude after a couple years.
ReplyDeleteHaven't watched AI in yearrrrssss, it takes me to snoozeville.
ReplyDeleteMorning cdan folks!
Morning joy dear i happy, just got out of dentist appt because i didnt hv my premeds!! Yay!
Delete@auntliddy do you have heart problems??
DeleteBuenos dias s joy! My Spanish is horrible eh
ReplyDeletePhillip Phillips f did pretty well, no?
Hi S.joy!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Idol here - but UK X factor success people are the runners up - 1D and Olly Murs. The winners slink away on Caribbean cruise runs after a year or so.
ReplyDeleteHello all.
afternoon Violet
ReplyDeleteAnd that worked so well for McPhee.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even watch ONE episode of that boring ass show! Same shit different year! I KNOW I'm not the only one who's so over that show!
ReplyDeleteAnother soon to be nobody. Does anyone remember Ruben Studard?
ReplyDeleteSeconded: did not know this show was still on and haven't heard a THING about any of the performers. Which is kinda odd, this blog is allll over DWTS and other shows like that, why not even a cursory mention until it is over?
ReplyDeleteGood morning, all, and afternoon, Violet! Hey s joy! Anyone seen Leeky lately?
Hey, S Joy! Where you been? Morning Sandy, et al. Good Afternoon, lovely Ms Violet.
ReplyDeleteYou're too kind Charlie. I could well be completely not lovely (deep seated need for validation from internet strangers).
ReplyDeleteMorning/Evening to y'all !!
ReplyDeletemorning TTM and Charlie. AI has lost at least half its audience since about 5 seasons ago, so it becomes harder for any of these people to mke it big now because they have a smaller interest base starting out, unlike Kelly and Carrie back in the day. And it seems male winners dont really have much appeal at all.
ReplyDeleteWho actually watches this ?
ReplyDeleteI may be in the minority, but I think Philip Phillips is doing pretty well. He's alwasy on the radio and I like his songs.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like Phillip Phillips too
DeleteMorning Becky and sandy!
ReplyDeleteI like the Broadway advice.. I <3 Broadway
ReplyDeleteWe like Phillip Phillips, didn't know he was from AI until a couple of days ago.
ReplyDeleteJena is from my neighborhood, I think she's coming home and attending her prom now. We're proud of her!
How funny. I was just playing tennis at Farmington High courts this evening!
DeleteThe truth is that these are not and never have been talent shows. They are entertainment shows and there is an enormous difference. There is a fantastic book by Ben Elton - fiction but a real thought provoked - something Idol, can't remember just now. But well worth a read. It will make you rethink all these types of shows.
ReplyDeleteTop of the mornin'/evenin' all...
ReplyDelete((Tips hat))
Re American Idol: ((crickets))
@Violet think it was called 'Chart Throb'....I love Ben Elton, Stark was a huge fave of mine!
ReplyDeleteThat's ot Becky! Made me realise just how those programmes manipulate
ReplyDeleteI seriously don't think I've watched this show for a decade if not longer.
ReplyDeleteI loved American Dreamz with Hugh Grant...showed you exactly how it worked! Lol, they are all just big karaoke competitions anyway....
ReplyDeleteJena is super talented. She really has a shot.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks, so many pure talented dreamers want to be on Broadway for real, and these Idols come and take the parts they hope for. Horrible...
ReplyDeleteOnly felt up to watching pieces here and there, but have seen all finalist perform. This guy was consistently most pro. He's a one trick rock pony, but he does it well. He's missing the sex appeal of a front man for a rock band. He'd be great to play Meatloaf if LV or Broadway needs a new loaf, I think the old one is stool doing LV.
ReplyDeleteThe reason Kelly and Carrie have done so well, is because they're actually extremely talented, unique and have chosen excellent songs to record. Kelly's one album flopped, because she decided to write them herself.
ReplyDeleteWhat, you didn't link to Ryan Seacrest singing?
ReplyDeleteCaleb is old news. Sprinkles trying to sing is really the memorable thing about this finale.
I see Caleb doing his lounge act with Tyler Hicks in a few years.
Or maybe one of the Kiss guys will retire and he can take their place.
AI is the most played out show in America. Just an odd question. But when was the last time that show had an African American Male finish in the top 8, that wasn't a) grossly overweight, or b) homosexual? Just odd that fit, hell even average sized hetero black men seem to be completely unrepresented on Idol. Just an oddity I guess.
ReplyDeleteThere will always be a 80's metal cover band performing at a state fair that is in need of a lead singer, so Caleb will always have a job.
ReplyDeleteMeatloaf for a new generation.
