No. Kelly Clarkson doesn't have the look, and Carrie Underwood wouldn't have done the touring needed to get the attention of Nashville. Who else made it big?
Carrie would have probably been discovered, yeah. And Daughtry - he seemed to really take off. I would hope J.Hud would have been successful because I like her a lot.
It's kind of a rigged question. How would you know? Some actors were found by a talent agent who happened to be at the pizza place in the mall food court. Some singers were found by a guy who happened to be at the casino on karaoke night.
Reality shows have killed the search for true talent, though. Sifting through 300k auditions to try to find the one gem makes needle in a haystack look like Chutes & Ladders.
Plus most talented musicians don't even make it big anymore. You have to sell your soul to make it everybody knows that. Not worth it to me... sleep with nasty producers, say shit that you don't believe, etcetera, etc..
Adam Lambert has a great theater voice and is perfect for Broadway musicals, where I predict he will end up someday. Whether or not he would have made it to Broadway from San Diego without Idol is an open question. But he has genuine talent.
They should scour karaoke bars for new talent. There's this toothless dude who always sings "the gambler@. Mullet excluded, he has star potential. Just make sure he has bourbon and the lyrics in a screen.
Seven - There's actually a husband-wife team of talent scouts who live in the Midwest. They hit the malls all the time, looking for the next great supermodel. They're responsible for discovering Ashton Kutcher.
Kelly Clarkson has the talent, but so do a lot of people that don't make it, and she didn't/doesn't really have "the look". She has probably benefited the most from having been on/won the show. She was also lucky to be the first winner, and that she had songwriting talent to back up her singing talent, and so she hasn't faded away like most of them. But I'm not criticizing, I like her music so I'm glad she got lucky, and I'm glad she broke away from the Idol group when she did, because her music since then is much better.
Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert. Kelly Clarkson and Daughtry are doing well too but they would of never made it without help and good songs given to them.
CU would have had to play thousands of shows before her first number 1! She is not nice in person and I've met her twice. Not as a fan either. She's not bubbly and outgoing even with other country legends! I'm friends with two legends and have seen her diss one ( after my two meetings) in a "you can't help but see him sitting next to you situation".
I don't think they would've been discovered. they were very raw when they started and the professional development of the show helped them progress in weeks what would've taken years or a lifetime. it's hard to believe Carrie Underwood would've gone undiscovered, but she probably would've had to face a lot of the ugly things female singers have to deal with to get put on now.
No, probably not. The music industry doesn't really exist anymore. New acts don't really become that successful anymore. Those that do, are usually drastically different than Idol blandness. And honestly, you can find better singers that the Idol people in any bar across America on a Saturday night.
Carrie Underwood is too good to remain undiscovered forever.
ReplyDeleteLove Kelly with all my heart, but unfortuantely, Carrie Underwood with her whiny and annoying, but talented voice.
ReplyDeleteKelly, Carrie, Daughtry.

ReplyDeleteWilliam Hung would have been a YouTube hit eventually.
ReplyDeleteSteven Tyler.
ReplyDeleteCarrie Underwood was already working in Nashville, so yeah, she was already on her way.
ReplyDeleteKelly
ReplyDeleteGlam Adam
Jessica Sierra. Oh wait, she would have made it big as a porn star with the help of idol!!!
ReplyDeleteCarrie Underwood, probably. Her performance of How Great Thou Art with Vince Gill is perfection.
ReplyDeleteI never got into American Idol.

ReplyDeleteI like what you said. Talent is not enough. The industry want people with a certain look and the right connections.
DeleteAgree definitely about Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, and Katherine McPhee.
ReplyDeleteGlambert for sure, that guy has loads of It Factor oozing from his pores and I think he's faaaaabuloouuuss and incredibly talented.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the Lambert train.
