The Kurt Cobain "Love Letter"

I'm pretty sure if this letter had been released shortly after the death of Kurt Cobain, the world would be taking more seriously the conspiracy theories involving Courtney Love. Police finally decided to release it this week and it does not say nice things about Courtney. In case you can't read it, the note says:

"Do you Kurt Cobain take Courtney Michelle Love to be your lawful shredded wife even when she's a bitch with zits and siphoning all yr money for doping and whoring..."

  4. Don't forget, though, that context is everything. This is just his side of things, and he was no angel; half the time he was an asshole.

  5. Blimey. He didn't like her very much did he?

  6. The man did have a way with words. I still think he was a walking suicide long before he died. Courtney is guilty of being a really awful person & he is guilty of marrying a really awful person. And killing himself. But I don't think she killed him (every generation needs a Yoko to blame all their hero's problems on). And nobody drives you to suicide. It's the ultimate personal choice.

  7. Somebody seemed angry about the Missus there. But actually appears to be accurate.

I will never buy that Courtney had him bumped off. She may have been a pain in the arse and they fought like all couples do but I really believe she loved him, that crazy bitch.

  8. Well. Every marriage has it's ups and downs!

  9. Do a search and take a look at both of their handwriting - it's very clear that's her handwriting, not his.

    1. @CoBe: to the best of my knowledge, a journalist often labeled a conspiracy theorist was denied requests to evidence and has filed a suit. So already suspicious circumstances seem much more ominous when police refuse to hand over requested documents. If anything, the investigation is an ass covering measure or an internal affairs issue. I don't think they're looking into Courtney. Seattle and it's local enforcement agencies have had a lot of shit going down lately

  13. That paper is from The Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco which was the rock hotel during those years. Both Hole and Nirvana frequented that hotel.

  14. I don't have much sympathy. I'm fairly sure she was who she was when he married her. It's not like he married America's Sweetheart and then she took up drugs.

  17. They were always like this as a couple, and it may even have been written in jest given all the rumors and tabloid stuff they went through. Kurt also had a very biting sense of humor. This really proves or means nothing.

  19. He was an addict, so i'm sure he couldn't of been much better. She's a hot mess to this day, but if I were her, I would be really hurt to see this.

  20. Thanks Mel, that would have been a helpful tidbit for Enty to include in his post. Without knowing the implication that this matches CL's handwriting and not KC then it doesn't seem to further any conspiracy.

Do we have the "Courtney killed Kurt!" loons here? I've never paid attention...

  22. The scientific conclusions about the levels of heroin and valium in Kurt's body at the time of death tells us one thing, the official coroner's report differs and is at odds with science and logic. To this day, that is problematic for me. How can the scientific findings continue to be ignored in this case?

  23. Thanks Lady H. I'd never heard about any kind of rumors before Enty's suggestion today.

Did she inherit his money after he died? Or did it go to the daughter?

  26. First time post! Rumours were at the time that when they married she had more money than him and made him sign a pre-nup - which worked both ways and he was worth alot more than her when he died ( and since)

Apparently he wanted a divorce which meant she would lose millions - she she had him 'suicided' no idea if true BUT he did have lethal amounts of heroin in his system when he apparently blew his brains out - which 'experts' have concluded would have killed him instantly( the heroin not the gunshot)and thus rendered him incapable of pulling the trigger, yet no needle sticking out of his arm and his works were packed away neatly and sparklingly clean in a box next to his body - you decide

  27. Interestingly enough, it was the private detective that Love hired to investigate his death who eventually came to the conclusion that not only did he not commit suicide, but that Love was the one who killed him/arranged to have him killed. He met with Cobain's lawyer, who (allegedly) told him that Cobain had asked her to draw up a new will that excluded Love completely from the estate, and that was her motive for having him offed.

It's a rabbit hole if you ever want to dig in, but at the end of the day, he was a depressed junkie married to a crazy junkie.

  28. Welcome Vik and Jay! @CoBe: Love was the primary beneficiary and Frances Bean inherited her trust fund at 18, which was almost 40% of his estate. As for the levels of drugs and whether he was even capable of physically pulled the trigger has always been at the core of this case. However, we also have to remember that Kurt was a severe drug abuser with a lot of resources. His tolerance was through the roof, so a fatal dose could be nothing for him. Think about all those alcoholics who get pulled over with BAC levels that would render most totally unconscious. That sorts thing.

  33. Easy on enty...looks like her handwriting, but no authorities or legit media outlets have reported it is in fact hers.

    TOTALLY AGREE!

  35. Another thing, he was so wasted on drugs, he may not have known what he was really doing. I get that he wrote a note, but still.

  36. It seems like shooting up a ton of heroin before shooting yourself would be logical and perhaps give one the courage and apathy to do the deed. I think Courtney is far too much of a tragic-energied character to kill someone and get away with it. Just look at how she lost his money. She's the type to wind up on tape talking to the contract killer and later courting publicity from prison. Trust me, if Courtney killed Kurt, she would find a way to sloppily brag about her success while blitzed on drugs and fuck the whole thing up. Plus, I think Courtney has trouble with abandonment and being alone. She had, if not love for,a very unstable dependance on him. And she loved being Mrs. Cobain and all of that relevance. To accuse her of killing him, that takes a very willful reimagining her as a much different person. And alot of people have trouble figuring her out and really want to pigeonhole her as something awful.

  37. As a former heroin addict, tolerance is everything, I used to use enough to kill a horse at my worst...anyway I think Pearl Jam are a way better band! Just a comment from a random, shy CDaN'er :)

  39. Slightly OT, but I'm watching The People vs. Larry Flynt, and Courtney Love may be a lot of things, but one of them is a damn good actor, even if she's just playing herself. Loads of screen presence.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, FFS - all of you people saying it's her handwriting are delusional. Go back to Gawker and read through ALL the comments - just not the ones you want to believe.

And no, she was just playing HERSELF in "The people v.s. Larry Flynt". Being a drugged-up whore isn't a stretch for her.

  41. I still can't figure out why they got married! It was 1994 not 1954, so there was no reason for them to. It always seemed weird to me that this "cutting edge" couple did something so retro like get married.

    ReplyDelete
  42. And I bet he was a joyful, bright, fun filled guy to live with. Full of enthusiasm and positive energy in the family home.
Neither of them were good people, but at least Courtney is honest about who she is. She is an eternal fuck up. It's not a nice thing to be, but it's her.
Kurt on the other hand couldn't admit anything. He had 'stomach pain' so he took heroin. The classic rock star excuse.
He never wanted fame or money.
    BUUULLLLSHIIIT!!
He was a great songwriter, but nobody forced him to make videos for MTV, or go on world tours. He loved it.
But the legend is better as a tortured soul.
He was no better than Courtney, he just lied better.

I know about addiction. It is the devil. The only way to beat the demon is to stop making excuses for it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Imo, Courtney didn't kill or have him killed. He was lost, couldn't handle the fame and idolisation. I doubt it's true, but one theory had her, Courtney, finding him dead first and tampering with the scene. I could believe that.

The people that talk about 'lethal dose' rubbish just don't get it. As a heroin addict you can take as much as you acclimate your body to over time. Simple as that. Cheers @Sika ;)

The prime conspiracy proponent is, as Seven said, Courtney's ex-PI. That's enough to give any conspiracy fan a hard-on.
My money is on Occam's razor - he was distraught and killed himself.

People that don't like Nirvana - fair enough, but if you are basing that mainly on Nevermind (the 'smells like teen spirit' album) and have a sec one day, give In Utero a listen. If you like Hole you could likely find it okay.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I haven't read Gawker, but I HAVE read her diaries, and that does look like her handwriting. I read this as sarcastic. I tend to agree with whoever it was above that was talking about how Courtney is basically incapable of having done this and getting away with it. She's way too disorganized and sloppy to get away with murder for 20 years.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't know what either person's handwriting looks like off-hand, but I'm with those who think Court's always been too mouthy and messed-up to have covered it up. I never believed that theory. Like Alita said...Occam's Razor. Done.

(Hi, Sika. Pearl Jam IS better.)

    ReplyDelete
  46. But the note is in Courtney's handwriting, not Kurt's.

  47. I love Nirvana's music but the older I get, the more I roll my eyes at Kurt and Courtney. I guess he was just a kid when he died. He had some maturing still to do.
