Off Topic

Remember when the whole world was Mad Men crazy? That seems like a long time ago.

  1. I still love Mad Men but the Megan hate is strong with this one. And going right into the '60s, some of the storylines are dragging hard. If I hear Hendricks say "Avon" one more time, it's mimosa time. I remember when my mom had an Avon friend and I got all the tiny lipsticks in the world, and I'm not even old.

    1. Seven - not a fan of Megan either but Don has become such a basket case it's hard to watch. Am very interested in seeing how/where he ends up- getting back on top or shell of the man he once was.

    2. @texas, I read somewhere that the end game might be Don jumping off a balcony and that's why his character keeps going down. They really need to give Kiernan Shipka more screen time before the shark jump, though. I agree, it'll be interesting to see where they take him.

And Roger. I love me some Roger.

    3. Seven- Wow- Don't the opening credits have the shadow of someone falling?? I wonder if it ties back to that image?

  2. I still love mad men! Pissed that they are breaking into 2 7 ep seasons a year apart!

I stopped watching the show after the second season, as I find it soul-crushing. I greatly admire the acting however.

  5. Loved Mad Men, hate Mad Megan. This character ruined the show for me, specially season 5 was awful because of her.

  6. Go Peggy! I hope she ends up on top.

  7. It is hard when there is such a long lull between seasons, longer than GOT and they have a good reason for taking longer.

But I won't miss an episode and it is too bad this is the last lesson.

Don Draper is still a complete mystery as far as I am concerned. They haven't even scratched the surface of potential storylines.

  8. Last lesson? Last season. Was that a Freudian slip.

  9. I think I'm the only Mad Men fan on earth who doesn't want Kiernan Shipka to get more screen time--she's fine but the amount they give her is quite enough.

  10. Penelope, I dont' really like the Sally character. If I had talked to my parents like she does, they would have knocked my head off.

  12. Sally has 2 of the most fucked in the head parents around and is more mature than both of them. I love everything about her and her monotone voice.

  13. People are still gonzo over Mad Men, who are you kidding? All I see these days are pencil-skirted, mohair-sweater-and-pearls redheads walking around like it's the 50s/60s. Mad Men is still well and alive, and probably will be for a while. The impact that show has had on fashion won't go away any time soon.

  14. I loved Mad Men back in the day, but cannot stand Megan and really need Don to sleep around more. Like lots more. Don Draper is the man candy on a stick that should not be constrained by conventional relationships. Everyone should get a taste.

  15. @Seven of Eleven
I can totally seeing him jumping. Look at the Beg. credits...
I have read too the Matthew Weiner has known the end of the show since the start

  16. I still love it, but I think what hurts it is that the seasons are so spread out. I would much rather get the whole final season in one batch rather than in two short installments.

  18. Am still mad about it. But the time taken between the seasons is soooo looong.
    Why?

  19. Neve Campbell was perfection in the season premiere.

  20. I still love it, although I came in about two or three years after it started. I loved seeing a lot of Sally and Don the other night. Peggy Olsen is my spirit animal.

But, yeah, this split-it-into-two-seasons-at-the-end is horseshit.

  21. Watch Cutler closely. He is a snake.

  22. Still a big fan. Can't wait to see how it ends up.

  23. I still watch the show (although unlike The Sopranos, The Wire, 24, Breaking Bad, and quite a few others, I haven't really gone back to rewatch any of the earlier seasons), but like pretty much everyone else I'm pissed they split the last season in two. I think it will end with "Don Draper" dying, but Dick Whitman will live.

  24. Mad Men lost its mojo last year. A lot of pointless plots with storylines that dragged on. I'm still watching but I'm not expecting much.

  25. Being a middle-aged gay men, I'm still crazy for Mad Men. I've watched every episode at least twice, which I've never done with any other show. But I think splitting the last season in two is a big mistake. It worked for Breaking Bad but that was only, what, five seasons? And they were all back to back. I liked the development of Megan from literally a bit player to a lead but then when I gleaned, from here of course, that she fucked her way to the front of the pack, I was sadly disillusioned. I'm hoping her move to LA phases her out. I don't mind her at all, but she takes us too far astray from the world of SC&P.

  26. I’m over Mad Men now but I still watch, so I can’t be too over it I guess. Add me to the hoards that are sick of Weiner’s smug manipulation by dragging-out the seasons and especially for breaking this last one into what equals 2 mini-series. Ugh.

I also think they lost a lot of fans during their dispute with A&E, which seriously delayed the season more than usual. The “2 hour” premier that year was merely 2 separate episodes back-to-back. This time around I didn’t even care enough to re-watch the last season finale to get caught up. I usually rush over to Slate.com to read the recaps/comments on Mondays and I haven’t been there once.

Yes, I’m tired of Megan but I love that they mentioned getting her teefs fixed. Ha! Roger still has all the best lines. Like I said before, I will watch this year and then I’m done swinging in the wind waiting for Weiner and his ego. I will take 1 day next year and binge-watch those final episodes right before the series finale.

  27. A couple seasons back I watched maybe 2 or 3 episodes, but I couldn't get into it. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it just stayed dull. Except for when the dark-haired chick started singing about zoos -- that made me wanna get shot by a Deaf Ray.
