NY Magazine Blind Item

This lengthy blind item is from an assistant to a female actress who is called a Hollywood name. Here is a portion of what the assistant had to say and you can read the rest of the blind here.

I broke up with a very prominent actor boyfriend of hers. She said, "Oh, we're done making a movie together; it's not really going to work; I'm sort of seeing somebody else. Could you just tell him to back off and leave me alone?" And she said this over the phone, over Christmas. She told me, "Accept the date on my behalf. Take the date. Go instead of me." So, that's what I did. You would think sending a text is the worst — no. Sending your assistant to break up with him is the worst. He had no idea it was coming, either, which was sad. Because when I was talking to him on the phone before, he was like, "Great! She said yes! Tell her I'll see her here; I'll order us her favorite wine," and I was just like, "Okay!" Ugh. I felt horrible for him. I was like, "You do not deserve this." That breakup was two weeks into the job. That was my initiation — Oh my God, this is what I'm doing?

  2. ice cold but that's the way now right? Text break ups?

  3. Is this that Hayden guy?

  4. Michelle Williams? January Jones? I'm running out of single moms.

  5. I dunno if sending your assistant is better or worse than texting. On one hand therein lies the possibility of the assistant throwing a pity beej into the mix, but texting is just that much more efficient. And saves on favourite wine costs. Hmmmm.

  6. I kept thinking Michelle Williams as I was reading too.

  7. This is probably someone living in NYC because of the magazine. Probably not January possibly MIchelle.

  8. Actually the big guess is Kate Hudson, which makes sense when you think of what happened with Owen Wilson.

  9. Everyone on the comments there thinks it's Kate Hudson. Guess she makes sense if you go back a few years.

  10. @Henriette---don't blame Kate for Owen trying to kill himself. That is all on him. It pisses me off that she gets blamed for something he rather selfishly tried to do after their relationship ended.

  11. Yeah, I agree with the Kate guess.

  12. Honestly, I don't see anything all that scandalous or horrid in this person's story (I read the original, entire thing)
I get that it's a sh!t job, but she came off sounding like a 12 year old who doesn't yet understand taking sh!t for a living. That's how the world works.
Must be a bad week at work for me.

I never said that. I mentioned Owen Wilson because they did a movie together and it was a weird break-up. Besides, he tried to commit suicide a while after Hudson.

  14. Am I behind the times? Has Kate dumped the latest baby daddy? I mean I can absolutely picture her in my head saying that though.

  15. @audrey
But I do think people can acerbate other people's problems. I look at Victoria Principal for that with Andy Gibb.

  16. ....and I think calling the ex about STD meds sounded vengeful instead of charitable. Like she saw an in with this guy.
Meh. I've been bitchy all week, probably just me.

  17. Is it just that I've been reading CDAN for too long or does this sound like pretty much exactly what you would expect working for a Hollywood actress? I kept waiting for the real juicy stuff. She worked for a typical, vapid, self-centered actress and she expected what? She didn't get a book-end thrown at her head or have to clean up anyone's bodily fluids or find some way to cover up an OD? Meh.

    1. Kitten, I was kind if the same, kind of meh.

It takes a lot to shock a jaded CDANer...

  18. I didn't see anything so outrageous about her job. Yea, the actress should have broken up with the guy herself and not hid weed in the assistant's stuff but buying books, getting coffee? So what? She must have known that's what assistants do.

  19. All it shows is that the actress is a spoiled brat and used to having people do her bidding. Being on 24 hour call is a bit much but it goes with the job especially if you live in the same house…hope the money was good.

  20. Charlize. All the clues fit.

    ReplyDelete
  21. well nobody is forcing you the so called assistant to do this job.....if that was your initiation then you should have had a clue

you are as guilty for actually doing it

    just sayin'

  22. personal responsibility sweetie...

  23. Kate really goes through guys & she doesn't have friends. Owen always seemed more into her, they were only together during that piece of crap movie.

Charlize was living with the same guy for a long time, they were living together & she does actually have friends.

  24. I don't really think it sounded that horrible. The boyfriend thing was cruel but otherwise she doesn't sound like she was mean to the assistant. Selfish, yeah, but not Julia Roberts evil.

  25. @Kno Won Uno I must be having the same sort of week. When I read the whole article, it sounded like the person was rather naive, or just stupid. I mean how long did it take her to figure out "herbs" were "drugs?"

And yeah, calling the ex about the STD was really inappropriate. Isn't that a HIPAA violation or something?

    1. HIPPA applies to employers, doctors, hospitals, etcetera, not to regular people talking.

  26. @Henriette...he was a drug addict. Blame those rather than what happened in a relationship that fell apart because of said addiction.

  27. Out of college I was an Executive Assistant, didn't do these more personal things or live in the home, but I was pretty naive when I started. Depending on her age/experience this PA probably really thought this was a good entry level position.

  28. TTM, are pity beejs a Canadian thing? All my break ups never came with one of those!!

    1. Queen, we ARE a really nice country. You're close to the border, check oot a Canadian today!

  29. Her issue wasn't doing the personal things her problem was the actress promised she would would be working on the production side along with personal work and that never happened. It was all drive me and get me my weed not exactly challenging.

I have been bait and switched a few times in my life work wise and it really does suck.

Part of the trade off of being a PA is while you are on call 24/7 and are picking up dirty underwear for low pay you get to go with them on trips and get the experience and networking opportunities. When whoever even took that away from her. I would of quit too and tried my luck elsewhere.

  30. This has to be the West coast because of the driving involved.

Hudson is a good guess but I was thinking Charlize because I can't picture Hudson having somebody picking up books for her to peruse, in order to look well read.

  31. Single mother to one kid, movie actress who dabbles in producing, "prominent" actor boyfriend that she made a movie with... hm. I actually don't have a solid guess here.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't blame her for quitting - especially having someone plant drugs in your luggage - without telling you ???

I don't care who it is - a celeb or an office boss - employees have a right to be treated courteously and with civility. I doubt that all celebs are like this one, and I don't think someone takes a position expecting to be treated like shit.

  33. Was totally thinking this was Kate Hudson. That's all that ran through my mind.

  34. Liv Tyler? Selma Blair? Uma Thurman?

    ReplyDelete
  35. That picture is from Emily Mortimer's new HBO series "Doll and Em", isn't it? Fun show. You get the sense that being a famous actress means life is one socially awkward moment after the other, whether it's friends, colleagues or strangers on the street. Painful but funny.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Charlize has had the same assistant for years (Asian girl named Beth....something.) and she had no known 'official' boyfriends after Stuart Townsend, who isn't a prominent actor.

I could see Halle Berry doing this, but she didn't date anyone famous between her first kid/breakup and her current dude.

Going with Kate Hudson on this one.

  37. Having many work related experiences with Kate Hudson, she LOVES musicians. Honestly, it was embarrassing how she would she throw herself at every front man of any non American band. The last thing I recall, she showed up to Jet threw her car keys at me like I'm her valet - that's how often we saw each other. Super skinny, great shoes but cold as ice.

  38. Anonymous9:58 AM

I don't understand what her problem is. She's an Assistant, so assist! There are plenty more people queuing up for the job if she doesn't want it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Kate Hudson fo sho!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. This person is stupid. She's okay with being a drug mule if she'd only been notified beforehand? She gets this person a cup of coffee because she "knew" she would run into this actress, even after all this crap. Get outta here you pathetic, whiny bitch! This enabler and so many like her are the reason a handful of people can get away with oppressing the now billions of people on the planet. Human beings are no better than cattle in most instances.

  41. I read the original article and it sounded like the plot from Devil Wears Prada.

  42. The break up crap is rude & no way ok. Running all kinds of errands is ok, having to break a heart for your boss not ok. Anywhere. Has to be a spoiled Hollywood princess which does sound like Kate - maybe that Dane guy that's a comedian, was in Employee of the Month with Jessica. They had a short lived fling before Owen & he spent time with her whole family, may have went to Aspen with them. Maybe it was Jessica??!!

    Just my wild guesses.

  43. I think it's someone who primarily lives or lived in NYC. Michelle Williams seems high maintenance.
I have heard some bad stuff about Sheryl Crow though from housekeeping staff and such.
    I dunno.

    ReplyDelete
  44. She had to tell a guy he potentially had an STD.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Really seems a lot like Kate Hudson. I bet the dumped actor was Owen Wilson. Didn't he try to off himself, he was that despondent over their break-up?
I wonder why. He seems like he could do a lot better. He's bright, good looking and probably would be a good partner. Maybe he should look outside the fame world and settle down with an average joe.
