Barbara Walters Leaving The View On May 16th

On May 16th, Barbara Walters will say goodbye to The View. She also says she is retiring from television but I find that hard to believe. After 50 years on television I can understand her wanting to pass on working every day, but I have a feeling she will still be doing her specials. Are they really journalism though? I think she likes being on television and having her opinion heard so I don't think this will be the last of her. I am interested to see who replaces her on the show. Will the show try and go younger or will they try and balance it our by hiring someone older? Will they get rid of Jenny McCarthy? ABC is going to run a special the night of May 16th honoring Barbara's contributions to television. I hope someone asks her what kind of tree she would like to be.

  1. She'll be retired in the way Cher and Sinatra were retired.

  2. There's some fine video where she interviewed James Randi after she did a story with Uri Gellar. Randi took all the tricks Gellar did, showed how they're not real psychic or supernatural abilities, and we all got to watch Barbara adopt the stance of "AWWWW Dammit, he got me!" Good times.

  3. First quick glance at that photo and I thought it was a younger Delta Burke!

  4. Barbara needs to retire. She was never my favorite, but I had some respect for her. I lost whatever shred I had left when she had Amanda Knox on her show. Instead of studying the evidence (despite what American reporting says in pandering to the Knox public relations blitz, there is evidence), instead of asking her some hard questions, and there are many to be asked, and making for good viewing, all Ba Ba could think of to say was, do you think they arrested you because you are so good looking? I thought she used to try to be a leader, instead of playing follow the leader. I'm angry with her.

Good! She seems like a right old grump and I've noticed that a lot of the time when the others are looking at their guest, she's looking down, or fumbling through her notes - how rude.

It seems like there are at least 10 shows every year that honor her. Although I agree that she has earned every accolade given, I'm kinda over it.

  7. Wow...Barbara doesn't even have a resemblance to her younger self.

  8. Gave up on "The View" a long time ago. Hated Elizabeth, like Whoopi, but don't like Jenny or Sherri or Joy.

  10. It is a HUGE pet peeve of mine when interviewers ask a guest a question and then immediately look down at their notes for the next question while the guest is still answering the previous question. Barbara Walters does this all the time and so does Conan O'Brien.

Gee. Wow. If you're wearing depends and need instructions as to how to work the remote control, it's time to move to a retirement village and take up cribbage.

  12. Yes to NJ FireFighter. My other huge pet peeve is interrupting your interviewee while they are answering your previous question with another question. Oprah is big on this. I used to yell at the television, "let them finish what they are saying!!!!" To me it shows that they don't care what you have to say, or they aren't listening, which is the mark or a good interviewer.

  13. Her greed is embarassing to the human race. She should have gone 20 years ago at least.

  14. Past time for her to leave. The woman is beyond rude when she points out how rude it is of others not to stop talking when she is still rambling on. Lately her "interviews" always somehow seem to be more about her than about the celebrity she is interviewing.

Oh and thanks! Constantly entertained by reading here.

  15. Like so many others not famous she had nothing outside of her job so it's been hard for her to let go. She's no longer a great interviewer and I agree, when you interrupt or spend the time they are answering looking at the next question, you're not engaged nor interested. Just phoning it in.

  16. Walters was brave and took a lot of shit as a groundbreaking woman in broadcasting. Sadly, she appears to be losing her marbles. The faster they get her off the air, the better.

She had to fuck her way to the top. "Beef Jerky" Clint anyone?

  18. @Malibu. Well, hopefully with the special, younger people can see that she actually was a great journalist at one point. And not the song and pony show she has been doing.
