Australian PM says Sounds Are From Flight 370
Earlier today the Prime Minister of Australia says he is confident that the sounds and pings being heard by searchers are emanating from the black box of MH 370. There are reports that the black boxes have actually been found which led him to making the more qualified statement. If they have found the black box how come we have not seen any debris. Is it really possible for a plane to not breakup when landing on the ocean at night? He said that he didn't want to provide any further information until the proper authorities had been notified. I'm assuming he means the Chinese government so maybe they can tell the families of the passengers.
This entire search is a clusterf@ck, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteTrue, I'm probably incapable of wrapping my brain around the size of the area that's been searched, but I also know that I can see where someone's cell phone is within 9 ft of their physical location halfway around the world. So......what's up with this search? For real. I can just fall into the ocean all snuggled up in a huge metallic mass of electronic navigation equipment and no one will ever find me? Handy info for people in the body dumping business.
It would be good for the family to have closure in knowing where the remains of their love ones lie, but I highly doubt the black boxes can shed any prolific light on the motives of the pilot. Lastly, if the plane glided in, it could have sunk intact.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea about the lack of debris. I am no engineer or physicist. But I would agree if the Aussie PM is saying the black boxes are from MH370 and they have to be, because why else make the statements and put the families through the wringer like that again.
ReplyDeleteThis search has been a mess. Basically, it's a textbook of what not to do when handling an air disaster.
Not to be insensitive, but the plane crashed and they are all dead. It's horribly sad, but how will finding this black box make things better? I get they want to find out what happened to prevent it in the future, but i think some families are holding out for body recovery. I dont see that happening tho.
ReplyDeleteFrom the picture they appear to be much further from Australia than originally thought. Hope they are able to recover the boxes. It won't be definitive but it will help with answers.
ReplyDelete@Sherry "appear to be much further from Australia than originally thought"
DeleteYep, but Australia claims an insane amount of ocean - MOAR OCEAN, WE WANT IT ALL! Muhahaha. So it's still our job to hunt.
I want to find the flight boxes so that there can be some understanding of how this happened. Hopefully the intercom recording allows some insight.
Our P.M is a joke.
ReplyDelete@Kno uno is right. they know where we are and piss each time they want to find us but boom.. in this case all that trackers went silent. fantastic shit story and I won t be amazed that the airolane was axtually shot down and area cleaned to zero before saying something to us.
ReplyDeleteTyping from mobile so apologizing for my spellings
ReplyDeleteObviously Enty doesn't remember Airport 1977 where the plane eventually sinks (intact) in or near the Bermuda triangle and the survivors are rescued (by lifting the plane with balloons) just before the plane sinks again and implodes.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding recap, Jeep Guy!
DeleteThose pings are coming from Rach's butt.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it possible there WAS debris? I mean it took over a week before they even started looking in this area. Plane parts weigh more than water for the most part, so they sink. Especially after what has now been over a month. And those parts that might have floated, have been floating around for over a month in one of the roughest parts of the ocean in the world. They are no where near a) where the plane originally went down and b) any of the other parts that are still floating.
ReplyDeleteThis is bigger scale than looking for a needle in a haystack, it's looking for an atom in a football field.
And yes, you can find a cell phone pretty much anywhere in the world when it's on, but that's because all cell phones are generally near cell phone towers. This area is actually near nothing at all. And no where near where they originally thought they should be looking for the plane.
the debris is nowhere near where the plane went in by now, i would think. something will wash up somewhere and be confirmed as coming from the plane. but we now know the ocean is so full of shit, it's hard to find a huge plane crash.
ReplyDeletethe box is buried at the bottom of the ocean. if they ever get it, it will be a miracle, but i bet they do. it took 2 years to get the air france black box but they DID get it.
You need 3 cell towers triangulating your location to know exactly where you are. They don't install them in oceans. I think it's just the size of the area that makes the search so difficult. How many planes would need to be flying before human eyes have seen every square mile of the area? You'd also have to have human eyes looking at every square mile simultaneously to remove the possibility that the debris moved from a search area you have yet to scour to an adjacent area you already searched. It's a moving needle in a haystack.

ReplyDelete@auntliddy, I think the black box and the finding of the debris is closure. Yes, they're probably all dead, but for some, spending the rest of your life never knowing, having even the faintest glimmer of hope when everyone around you knows there is no hope, can be as great a burden as the loss itself.
ReplyDeleteSeven, you are right , of course. Thanks for giving me another point of view. Thankfully, i have never been in that position.
Delete@auntie, you are *always* welcome! And I agree, I'm thankful to have never been in that position myself. Such sadness.
DeleteRemind me why everyone started hating on Rach again? I mean, she was annoying and posted way to much (side eye to TTM) but she wasn't as crude as the jerk, for example, and at least she didn't have a catch phrase (side eye to TTM).
ReplyDeleteJust curious.
Um Err, it's like anything, some people liked Rach and some people didn't; she had a fambly crisis and decided to stop posting after having run-ins with another poster. Some believe she's still around, under a different name. And if you don't think she could be as crude as the count, clearly you weren't paying close enough attention. She was all right but she took that last mess really hard.
DeleteAs for me, please and sincerely get bent. I don't post nearly as much as others, especially these days. I also didn't exactly design a catch phrase, my fatal flaw is that I think I'm hilarious. I didn't even realise that anyone had noticed, other than the occasional comment, until the trolling.
Thanks, Leeky. Thanks Sherry, I like you too.
I'm hopeful that maybe they'll finally find Amelia Earhart, too.
ReplyDeleteFinding the black box is also important to Boeing, to determine whether there was an issue with the aircraft that could be problematic on other 777s, or if it was some other factor(s) that caused the plane to go down. This was one of the reasons it was worthwhile in the end to get the Air France black box - the ice that covered the sensors was a problem not previously broadly known.
ReplyDelete@Err
ReplyDeleteTeam TTM here.
Team Err here. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteHow cute. Teams. Adorable.

I liked Rach but others didn't for whatever reason they determined. If everyone got along we'd have no wars. And I like TTM too. I don't care how much people post although I don't see how they have the time but that's up to them.
ReplyDeleteI do not care for people who actively bait others and think an intelligent retort is to insult them. Those people I can do without.
One of my sons has an online friend in Australia, and the friend says that Tony Abbott, the PM, has generally ignored obvious problems at home (and actually made them quite a bit worse in some areas). They were comparing him with Rob Ford.
ReplyDelete@Sherry - I agree with you. I have had no problems with either Rach or TTM (well, except the catch phrase but I'm sure there are many of you who like it for some reason). Last I remember was when Rach came on saying her mother (father?) just passed and a few attacking her in that stream of post. I was asking where the hate came from and pointing out she wasn't much different than many of the main posters on here. I'd like her to come back and throw a little mix back into the posting.
ReplyDeleteI also want Bruce back.
@Err You had enough of a problem to diss a nice person twice in one post. When people diss mean people, in my opinion they've usually had it coming, but not the nice ones.

DeleteCan't we all just get along?! If you don't like a poster, scroll on by. And, yes, *I* am working on this, too...

DeleteThe theory I heard is if one of the pilots had tried to land the plane on the water Sully style, that the plane could have sunk intact. And the water is 16,000 feet deep around that spot.
ReplyDeleteMy own theory extrapolating from that:
Now if you think one of the pilots was on a suicide mission why would he do this. Hoping the plane was never found therefore leaving as little debris as possible? Maybe he thought they could never find the plane or it would take years.
Or maybe the other pilot was not on board with his partner and managed to overpower the other pilot and he tried to make such a landing or at least tried to make it potentially survivable but if the water came in too quickly or just a fluke that the wings or tall did not detach on entry in the water?
I heard some expert on CNN saying that the Australia PM is an extra cautious man and he does not make statements unless he can back them.
ReplyDeleteHe wouldn't be the first man to ignore the home situation for his career. Got no opinion on this guy but soooo many men do sacrifice their families for their careers and particularly highly successful ones.
Our Finance Minister who was one of the key leaders of the G8 during the economic meltdown and kept Canada's head above water resigned because it was time to spend time with his family and he felt his job was done, died yesterday of a massive heart attack at age 64. They say doctors told him to retire 2 years ago but this guy felt he had an obligation to see his goals through and the moment he achieved it he resigned ie his last budget had no deficit.
His dedication may have cone at the cost of his own health. He will be sorely missed, they don't make guys like him much anymore. Most politicians just talk talk talk and get nothing done this guy got things done. But I digress.
I wouldn't say Tony Abbott is cautious about his words...he generally speaks with his foot in his mouth.
DeleteOT @Tina Yes, I'm in Canada and read that about Jim Flaherty this morning - really shocking. He worked himself to death. I couldn't believe the last photos I saw of him.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the possibility that the plane lost cabin pressure still in play? If it was on auto-pilot then it could have flown for hours before running out of fuel and crashing. Everybody on board would have been dead within a few minutes if the emergency oxygen masks didn't deploy, or if they didn't react fast enough to put them on before they got disoriented and loopy from lack of oxygen.
ReplyDeleteThe only question in my mind is, if it was on autopilot would it have gone so far off course?
Principessa - The oxygen masks automatically deploy but only have a few (7 or 8) minutes of oxygen. In that kind of hectic situation probably no one is thinking about cell phone. If pilot in on it he could program autopilot for new route before depressurizing plane. Pilots probably have more oxygen so if copilot not in on it then he probably killed him. Big mystery with this scenario is why do it without putting your suicide message out there? Did he want it to be an unexplained mystery?
DeleteI'm late to the game but what happened with Rach and TTM? I barely have time to voyeur these days .. Babies and such.. But I was just getting used to those two as regulars - not that I can stake any claims here myself. I've commented less and less over the years. It seems like people make strong entrances, comment a lot for a whole and poof- they're gone - and I never seem to know the reason why but there always seems to be some sort of commenter beef. Am I off course here?
ReplyDeleteAlicia - I think in some of those cases when the institution finds out a patient is acting out on the internet they take their browsing privileges away:)
Delete@Alicia, I've noticed the same (but TTM is still around here and there, thank goodness). I think some of it's drama, flame in, flame out, but yeah, sometimes people get "run out", too. Odd interwebs dynamics.
ReplyDeleteHope the wee one is well - love your new avi!
Tony Abbott is not 'extra cautious' about delivering news about MH370, he is LOVING this time in the spotlight and has been announcing stuff left, right and centre in parliament for weeks. He's a very dangerous man, more akin to George W Bush than Rob Ford. He's trying to get some terrible legislation in place that will declare much National Park a target for logging along with changes to our laws surrounding racism.
ReplyDeleteThey will find the black box soon, the area has gotten smaller so, even if the pings stop, they have a much smaller area to search. As for debris, it's been widely reported that the seas there are like a washing machine, the plane disappeared a long time ago now, so it's likely to be at the bottom now.
The problem is usually one of resources - the resources being expended on this search sort of means that they should find it, eventually. Hopefully soon enough that they can get the recordings off the boxes. This sadness has been reported like every day, so now I feel insanely invested in the story and really *really* want to know what happened to that plane.
ReplyDeleteAlita - don't get your hopes up. We may never know what happened in the cockpit. We will only find the flightplan and what was happening mechanically unless there are cockpit recordings of pilot or pilots discussing what is happening.
Deleteit wasn't just people on china aboard, enty.
ReplyDelete@texas rose
ReplyDeleteThe black box flight recorders have recordings from the intercom in the cockpit. It just loops, recording over the old. Used to be 30 mins, someone said to me they're now 2 hours long, but hopefully that will shed some light.
TTM is awesome as are the other regular commenters ...minus the trolls...
ReplyDeleteI think in the end, we will find out one pilot had financial problems, and tried to help his family out by committing suicide and making it look like an accident for insurance reasons.
ReplyDeleteNothing about this looks like an accident. Even a sudden depressurization doesn't explain a whole bunch of different factors such as the planes descent to 4000 feet than eventual rise back up, nor the direction change, nor the fact it was steered into a place where it would be hard to find.
Could see a situation where one pilot managed to hide a blade on board, then quietly cut the other guys throat, and then depressurized the plane to kill everybody on board while he still wore a mask. Then he steered the plane into a place it would be difficult to find and then eventually his own oxygen ran out.
@Slim Peachy, call me naive but I refuse to believe I live in a world in which someone could be so callous as to kill 250 other people to fake his own accidental death.
ReplyDeleteAs horrible as terrorism is, at least it has some idealism behind it, albeit warped and distorted. I find it hard enough to live in a world where people commit terrorist acts, but somebody killing a planeload full of people so his family can collect insurance?
No, just no.
@slim peachy, I don't think suicide is the best way to get your family life insurance, especially if there is no body then it could be years to declare someone actually dead.
ReplyDeleteOur Aussie Pm Tony Abbott is an idiot, he jumped on this when he thought he would get some great press about "him finding the black box ". He has been despised since he got elected and is seen as only the puppet of Rupert Murdoch.

ReplyDeleteAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Shows you what fucking CNN know.
Seriously, this man is a fucking idiot. A fucking moron. He's anti-environment, anti-lgbt, anti-equality, and spent all of Julia Gillard's time in office making derogatory remarks based on her gender such as calling her cabinet the handbag brigade. He is dangerous and stupid.
Good heavens, how on earth did he get into office? Doesn't speak well for the Australian people that this is their leader. I know the Aussie PM is not elected like the US President but still...at some level he reflects the values of the people, no?
