Comedian David Brenner, a regular on Johnny Carson's "The Tonight Show," has died after a battle with cancer, a family spokesman said Saturday. He was 78.

Brenner was a staple on Carson's late-night show, appearing more times than any other guest -- 158.

  1. RIP

I know this makes me a terrible person, but the first thing I thought was "I wonder if that is the reason there is now a Johnny Carson sex tape in circulation". I blame The Soup

  2. Comic-book writer & afficianado, TV producer, animation producer (currently producing "Garfield" cartoons) ludicrously-knowledgable showbiz observer and insightful blogger Mark Evanier has written a terrific little piece memorializing Brenner. It's worth a read.

    2. No reason to have Bonsall rest in peace.
By numerous reports, he lost his mind & turned into an actual Nazi.

  5. This made me so sad when I heard this yesterday. What really shocked me was learning his age - for some reason, I thought he was younger.

  9. He was my favorite guest on the Tonight Show when I was a kid. He did some great interviews on Howard, too. Those suits he wore were almost iconic.

  10. @Paint Chips, the suits! The suits were on fire!

I remember him from when I was just 6 and not quite 7, and gram let me stay up when I visited her.

  19. I met him once in the airport in Reno. Nice guy. Went to see him several times here in Vegas, very funny. He was a good dad, he essentially quit touring to stay home and raise his kids. RIP.

  21. A class guy, to young to die. I grew up watching him. If more actors and actresses would act more like this we would be better off. To many famous people in Hollywood have died this year. Will say prayer for all of them. May god be with all the families who have lost somebody in the acting business.
