LOL @hollywood dime. I went with my highschool sweetheart too. But he didn't end up in the NFL. He's fat and unsuccessful LOL. He deserves it though!! Asshole cheated on me with a freshman later that year.
I went with the only male cheerleader at my school. We had a blast, and he was a perfect gentleman. He came out shortly after, but I had already known. So, that was my first and only time bearding.
My loser boyfriend who threw a temper tantrum because this g guy I made out with years before was dancing in the same vicinity as me. It was a rough night.
Just once I'd like it to say "Who did you go to Junior-Senior Banquet with?"
Some of us didn't have the luck to attend a loose-morals prom with whoreish dancing like the public school kids. Watered down KoolAid and rubbery Chicken a la King were just fine for us.
Besides, everyone knows that dancing is like having sex standing up, which leads to un-wed teen mothers. Sheesh.
I was just about to ask about the ... um ... Junior-senior banquet. Yes, it sounds like a laugh riot, with the rubbery chicken and ban on sex-dancing.
I went to more the prom style thing, called 'formals' here. Went to five in my last year - yep, I was just that popular. Oh - I guess people could also think that I was just really slutty.
I didn't want dramatically expensive dresses, but it amuses in retrospect that there was zero discussion about dress costs - of course I should have 5 (not have to double up). I suspect both parental units were impressed with my haul, especially since I'd always been little miss alt.
@Alita - I'm going to go all out and guess you're either an Aussie or Kiwi, 'cos that's what they were known as when I went to school (they're now called 'school balls' for most).
I was supposed to go with an older guy from my Spanish class. But then I heard that he was going around bragging about how he was going to hook up with me. So I waited until the last minute, told him off publicly and then went with my gay BFF. Best decision ever.
I was newly single, so I took my sister. I wore the Indecent Proposal dress, because that's what my mom bought me. Prom was lake, but the arterparty rocked.
You are all ruining my image of an all-American prom being the highlight of your school days. As a pupil at an all girls school in England in the 1980s proms were unheard of and I think my headmistress would have expired rather than consider such a thing.
I went with a friend (Laurie) whom I had made out with once at another dance several weeks before prom. By the time prom rolled around, I was actually dating another girl, Carole.
Years later, I heard that Carole and her husband died on their honeymoon in Spain, car went off a mountainside or something to that effect. Has to be one of the saddest things that ever happened to someone I knew.
Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled infighting/trolling.
I stayed home from the prom & met up with my friends for the after party as no one asked me to go & I was not trying to go solo. So humiliating to not get asked at all. Especially in hindsight knowing some day my kids will probably ask me about it when they are that age. The worst part was, I was actually kind of a hottie back in the days and very active socially on cheer, dance team, homecoming court runner up, etc. but must have put off a real bitch vibe to the fellas, because I was rarely asked out, especially to dances etc.
To add insult to injury, the week before prom I was bombarded with guys asking me "So who's taking you to the Prom?" and I had to admit that I wasn't going and no one had asked, only to be told by no less than 15 guys the week of that "I would have asked you if I knew no one else had!" Yeah, pretty awesome for the self esteem.
Perfect timing Enty, as we meeting up this week to start planning our upcoming 20th HS Reunion. Now I'm feeling old, and rejected. Might need a cocktail at lunch today. ;)
I went with my boyfriend at the time who is now married to my best friend from high school. I went with my friend to his high school prom too but it was strictly platonic we were great friends.
Went stag with some girlfriends and I kinda sorta stole some girl's date. She keep whining about not wanting to spend the entire night with him and begging other girls to dance with him. I took over early on and left her free to mingle, then she tried complaining that I took her date. I swiftly reminded her of the earlier requests and shut her up. Worked out great for me, we went to the same college and the rest is history. Going on 8 years!
I was dumped 2 weeks before the prom. Went with a friend who it turns out liked me & never spoke to me again after he didn't get lucky! Also, my mom loaded the camera film wrong (way back when, kids, there was film) & I don't have any photos of me looking hot in my dress!
Ha ha, Charlie! I went to a private Christian high school, and they called it the Junior Senior Banquet. No hussy dancing allowed! I went with my then-boyfriend, and it was pretty snoozey
My senior year I begged to go to public school, and went with my boyfriend who I wound up marrying. For some reason I got it in my head that I wanted to have my dress made, and I wound up with a really expensive purple tank dress that looks like I found in a bargain bin. It was the 90's, so everyone looked pretty trashy. ha ha
I didn't go because nobody invited me, plus I was too insecure and shy to brave going on my own.
Do I regret it? No way! I'm light years ahead of where I was way back when, and don't really get all the fuss about them.
Over here, the girls are spending big $ on what we call the "school ball" ... some spend the sort of money on theirs that I spent on my wedding dress, hair, make-up and flowers combined! #Cra-zeeee!
O/T - can I just say - because I'm bursting with excitement and am about to implode! - that I'm off to the Eminem concert this Saturday! And, even better, we have backstage passes and will be meeting him. I'd better resist all temptation to do a sing along :-/
I a guy I worked with who ended up asking another girl at my hotel prom party out on a date. My prom date died about four years later in a car jacking, so my prom date is dead.
It's my all girl high school's 25th reunion this year, which I am not going to after the horrible ten year reunion I went to. The only thing those broads cared about was whether or not I was married with kids.
Eco-friendly over paper or plastic, tyvm.

DeleteI am a high school drop out.
ReplyDeleteMy now husband and my parents chaperoned- but they spent all night at the bar. Fun times in catholic school!
ReplyDeleteOh... and it was Rhonda Vander-something. And she ditched me to go drinking with her girlfriends. Boy, high school memories are great!
ReplyDeleteBoycotted Prom after an argument with our principal. Was told I didn't miss a thing by those that went.
ReplyDeleteNever went to the prom and I lost my school ring.
ReplyDeletePaper but I bring my own cloth bags.

ReplyDeleteDidn't go, didn't care.
ReplyDeleteNo establishment prom for this hippie chick, man, that would have been sooo plastic, lol. Had no desire to go, never even thought of it.
