Third Sex And The City Movie Being Made
Sarah Jessica Parker is always the sticking point to any Sex And The City reunion or movie. She is the only one of the four women who works regularly. Reports are that she has agreed to do a third installment but insists that the script and casting has to be finished by the end of the year. The rumblings about a third movie have been growing with each of the stars being asked about it in the past few months. Although they were coy about it, no one said no and with Sarah saying yes it is just a matter of time before the final installment of the movies is made. No matter what this will be the last movie. Of course they say that but if the movie actually does well they could be doing a Golden Girls version thirty years from now. The second movie was awful so I was hoping they would just end it after that disaster. It is just too hard though for a studio to say no to an established project that has the chance to make a lot of money. Plus the stars all love a really high paycheck too.
They are now picking the bones off a very dead horse.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see it!!
ReplyDeleteThe girls made 40 fabulous so it's nice to see actresses in the "over 50" category not relagatef to being the occasional loving, crazy, or harpy grandmother. Kudos to them and far less skin-crawling now that Babwa has talked about vibrating at 70
ReplyDeleteMake that at age "84".
DeleteI can't see where they would take this. Last time it was painful to watch.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I loved the show, loved the first movie, but the second one was the definition of "jumped the shark". So so lame. I'm still gonna watch it, though, for Big
ReplyDeleteThis franchise is successful because as Samantha would say...
ReplyDeleteThe first movie was just product endorsements, so I can't imagine what the third one will be. I never saw the second movie, since the first was just so awful.
ReplyDelete@Henriette If you skipped the 2nd, you should consider yours a life well-lived.
DeleteBwaaaaa!
Delete
ReplyDeleteI'm all for these ladies getting work but it is time to move on. I am in their age range but I'm not interested in seeing further adventures from this gang.
Menopause in the City
ReplyDeleteYou made me spit my coffee!
Delete@disco FTW
DeleteAnd Jennifer Hudson was VERY painful to watch in the first one. I couldn't believe she got an Oscar when she was worse than a kid out of a high school play.
ReplyDeleteAlright!!! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThey cant get any other work so the sequels continue even though there is no more story to tell.
ReplyDelete@Henriette: LOL! The SJP is one bony horse too, huh?
ReplyDeleteNooooooooo, make it stop! Let it go....the first one was a passable chick flick, the second was as fun as anal wart removal....only watched 20 mins...these are classy dames who should know better....
ReplyDeleteSATC was a good show during its run. I feel bad for them now. Just let it go, ladies.
ReplyDeleteI suffered through the first one. I refused to see the second one in the hopes that if I didn't give any money to it they would stop flogging the dead horse. Apparently not.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm all for thd older ladies getting some action but I'm not sure I'd pay good money to watch Samantha et al doing their thing. Some things are best left to the imagination (or not at all as the case may be).
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that this is what Sex and the City turned into. The HBO show was really good and FAR superior to Candice Brushnell's horribly written book, but these movies are just making the whole thing smell really bad.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about the book? Completely true and disproves the saying that you can't polish a turd. You can. For other evidence see Trainapotting and Bridget Jones's Diary.
DeleteThe 2nd movie was painful except for Liza's gig at Stanford's wedding. Whatever happened between him & Marcus anyway? Suddenly he was with Anthony I found very odd. I will watch 3 rd movie if it has a good story. They had an opportunity with the 2nd one as the economy tanked to go there ( big was supposed to be in financial trouble) but it wound up being extra extravagant instead.
ReplyDeleteIf they can make money they will continue with these even if they are all in the nursing home
ReplyDeleteThe second one didn't even make any friggen sense when it was being summarized, so knew it was crap. Horny ladies spending money in a conservative Muslim country, so the jokes just write themselves: "Watch Samantha get stoned for blowing a married man." Yeah, I took a major pass on the second one.
ReplyDeleteOoh! I'll have to call my agent to see if I can get a cameo!
ReplyDeleteHi Kimmy! Your mom made me watch this horrible show when it was on. I found Carrie to be a whiny brat but Samantha was funny. That girl liked to have a good time! At least I didn't have to suffer through the movies.
DeleteI love them but dunno... sex after menopause? im a big fan of the girls and I wonder the purpose of a third one. My mother won t understand that either still struggling with the "grandmother" word. im not saying there is no life after 50 but a new sex in the city after 50 is bit off..
ReplyDeleteYes, there is sex after menopause and for some of us, it's even better than when we were younger. ;)
DeleteMeanie is right! Sex doesnt end after menopause for godssakes! Menopause is just a stage in your life. You handle the crazy part and the hot flashes and move on. Then guess what? Youre not a victim of your hormones anymore!! No more pre programmed moodiness!! No sore breasts!! Its great!! Now i was pretty young when i was done with menopause-45 or so-but its great!! Not the end of anything, but start of new chapter.
DeleteThe show was never really about women, but gay guys talking about sex. I was shocked when Samantha's menapause was written in. I guess we can hear them talking about what hormones they take to keep themselves wet and ready and how much viagra Mr. Big needs to take but can't due to his heart problems. Also, how to find heals that won't help you break a hip on a NYC sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteMeh sums up the appeal factor on this post.
ReplyDeleteIf that's what you all think about sex after menopause and after 50 plus, I sincerely hope you are in for a big surprise
ReplyDeleteTestify, Meanie
ReplyDeleteLOVED the show.
ReplyDeleteThe first movie was cute.
The second movie was meh times 1,000.
Charlotte for life. And, if I can see Mario Cantone do his thang, I'm in. He is my No. 1 gay in my fake life in my mind.
I just really love Charlotte York. I kinda want to be her, although I don't know if I would convert.
It is so funny to watch SATC epis and laugh and laugh and laugh at the fashions I thought were SO fabulous at the time. This is what my good times have come to in my 30s.
And, I have a beef with comparing SATC to Golden Girls. NOTHING compares to the Golden Girls.
Is Lena Dunham writing the script?
ReplyDeleteSidenote: Candace Bushnell is the WORST writer ever. Her books are painful. PAINFUL. Talk about a lucky broad with the show blowing up. She must have made a killing.
ReplyDeleteI think they need to do the 3rd to redeem the 2nd
ReplyDeleteIf it is well written it will be ok
I think its still relevant in its own way-won't appeal to everyone but to enough
It would be nice if ended with a good movie. The second one was just so terrible, maybe they feel the need to redeem themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe second film was *horrific*, absolutely horrific.
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly, I will probably go see this. It can't be worse than the second one.
Love my girls! I miss them and will definitely watch this! Funny thing about #2 was I waited a long time to watch it and had heard so many horrible things about it that I didn't think it was that bad. Lol. I know it was cheesy but when you go in expecting the worse ever.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjUQMs0kVEI
ReplyDeleteGet it, Liddy!
ReplyDeleteKim Cattrall has been working in Europe and Cynthia Nixon has been doing theatre don't know about Kristin.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm in the minority here, but I thought the second movie was better than the first. Not great, just better. The first one was just sad. No witty writing, no energy, no inspiration. The story line of the second one wasn't good, but at least the characters were back to their old selves. I hope they leave the girls in New York this time. I don't see why they have to travel to do a movie. Or at least have them go to the Hamptons again.
ReplyDeleteThere was a second?
ReplyDeleteEW. shoulda skipped this thread.
ReplyDeleteSex and the City was 1998-2004...ie, just in that 10-15 year zone where things are old enough to be out of fashion, but not old enough to be ready for a nostalgia -driven comeback.
ReplyDeleteIf they're just getting started now, then maybe they won't have the movie out until 2018 or so, in time for the show's 20th anniversary.
Maybe by that time people will be interested in hearing from them again.
I have great idea fir 3nd movie. Jarrys working alot, and char starts to think he is cheating. Samantha is back in ny, working doing great, when she runs into Smith, who is now married with baby. He tells her he still loves her and wants ti resume relationship while married. Steves mother dies, and steve starts planning for their retirement and burial, making her tour old age homes and look at burial plots. While carrie, blissfully happy with big, is trying to talk down charlotte about cheating, they all go over a list of signs your spouse is cheating. Whilst doing that, carrie realizes big has shown many of these behaviors. Upset, she abruptly ends get together to think. When she checks further, and confronts big, he admits he is cheating on her. Finally carrie sees him for what he is, and remembers all the hurts. They split for good, and she is back in her apt. Samantha, after much soul searching, realizes she lives smith enough not to sleep with him and jepordize his marriage. Char realuzes harry just working hard and tells him to cut back. While steve watching brady play, he realizes life is for living and atops death obsession. Movie ends with four of them in carries apt, snacking and talking. Its gold i tell ya!! Lol
ReplyDelete@Auntliddy, I think that's pretty good!
DeleteI like your storyline! Maybe they should have a contest where fans submit ideas & go from there. I still think they could do mr big financial crisis. Maybe between the market crash of 2008 and a bit of a Bernie madoff type scam big is not so rich carries books no longer popular the stress of a shift in lifestyle can their love survive?
Delete@auntliddy--I kinda like it! You certainly gave it more thought than the writers of the second movie...
DeleteMaybe they don't want to go out on the down note that the 2nd movie was. I don't blame them for wanting to end it on something awesome. I'll see it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the first one but I got over the whole SATC schtick so I didn't even see the second one. I may or may not go see a third; we know that there have been franchises where the second movie sucked but a subsequent movie wasn't half-bad. I'm blanking at what they might be, but YKWIM. More power to 'em, I guess.
ReplyDeleteHenriette, I don't get the JHud love, either. I don't even think her voice stands out that much.
"And, I have a beef with comparing SATC to Golden Girls. NOTHING compares to the Golden Girls."
Amen. They also handled the sex and menopause jokes with far more class. They were still funny as hell, but not gross. :-/

ReplyDeleteThe only part you HAVE to see in the 2nd movie is this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZh3WR7P_ZA
ReplyDeleteThey could bring him back. I'd be OK with that.
I miss my Ladies, when I catch an episode, I get all blue for the 90's, amazing times!
ReplyDeleteI'll catch the 3rd when it shows up on Netflix.
I must be the only person with a uterus who has never seen the show or watched the movies. Not sure if I should be sad or glad...
ReplyDeleteCome sit with me, @7! I have never seen this show. I've also never watched a single episode of Friends.
Delete@Seven Be glad. If you have not seen Sex and the City, please tell me where you live and how flexible the visa laws are there.
DeleteDitto for me with SATC and Friends. Neither interested me at all.
DeleteThe SHAME! And you call yourselves gossip mavens...
DeleteYou're not alone, 7!
DeleteThere's a lot of unmined material they can explore with single women in their 40s/50s. Divorcee dating; menopause; older men looking for young trophy wives. It has the potential to be as groundbreaking as the show was for 30-something dating. BUT, after that piece of crap second movie, I have lost faith that they can go there without falling into stereotypes and stupidity.
ReplyDeleteLoved the series when it was on HBO & was so happy to catch up with everybody in the first movie. But that second movie was total, absolute garbage.
ReplyDeleteSex and the City 3 has already been made, folks; it's called "The Golden Girls".
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'm joining you and 7 Meanie...I saw a few epis and that was it. Frankly aside from the access to cash and fabulous fashion I was Samantha when I lived in NYC.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, menopause doesn't stop you but it slows you down a bit and everything is waaaaay better!
id watch. I love these ladies. best chemistry
ReplyDeleteand you better believe someone is going to die
Probably BIG
Please no singing in the third movie. Please!!
ReplyDeleteIf you've never watched "Mannequin", you're missing out on the best of 80s romcom. Andrew McCarthy, Kim Cattrall, James Spader, HOLLYWOOD!
ReplyDeleteSeriously.
+1
DeleteI love Mannequin, watched it last week, still holds it's own.
Delete@7 YASSSS!
ReplyDeleteAKM I can't stand JHud's voice either. There is no subtlety at all. She's constantly screaming.
ReplyDeleteMannequin was awesome!! Hey, did you know Kim Cattrall was in Porky's?
ReplyDeleteWasn't she known as 'Lassie' because she howled at the peak moment.
DeleteShe was, caydian! Kind of like a young Samantha
DeleteI wish they'd let this franchise die already. While I enjoyed the show I wasn't impressed with the first movie- it was okay. But the second was downright painful!
ReplyDeleteYay! Can't wait. Hope it's not like the second one.
ReplyDeleteWill probably "catch" SATC3 when it comes round to cable/satellite.
ReplyDeleteWould definitely tune in 10-15 years from now for the Golden Girls version, though. Having seen the hilarious DL thread about GG b Designing Women, I imagine there would be TONS of stuff to pick apart and laugh about.
Is welcome a cameo from Berger.
@Auntliddy I would totally watch that SATC3 movie!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up about post menopause.. Because the Peri AIN'T NO FUN!
And someone please tell me, that SACT3 cannot be as bad as the second movie.. Please!!!
Jiella, im not gonna lie, peri menpause is like a coupla years of pms on steroids. Then-the calm blue ocean of peace and tranqulity. Hang in there! :)
DeleteHere's my beef about SatC. They screwed up the ending. For a show about strong women navigating single life in Manhattan, I did not want to see them all find their happy eve rafters through a guy. They needed to leave at least one woman single AND HAPPY ABOUT IT. It felt like a complete betrayal of the show's concept.
ReplyDeleteYes....
DeleteCandice Brushnell was kissed by the Writing Gods for sure. Her books are horrid and extremely bad. Sex and the City went from first person to third person narration at the drop of a hat and usually in the middle of a sentence or paragraph. I've got students who write so much better than that and know when they are switching point-of-view.
ReplyDelete@Susan
ReplyDeleteActually, Darren Star screwed her over (so she says) with the HBO series. She learned her lesson and got involved with The Carrie Diaries to make more money, and she hates SPJ.
@Seachica
ReplyDeleteYeah, but the girls do not really explore those ideas, instead it's about consumerism and product placement in the movies. How much did Apple pay to be so positioned in SCT 1? It was so disgusting and the Vivienne Westwood storyline was sad. All Carrie can do is buy shoes and moan for Big? Really?
@Seachica
ReplyDeleteThat single woman was Samantha. Remember she married herself and left the one guy who stayed with her through her cancer.
@Henriette - Carrie was always the shiniest and most needy of the bunch. Her pining for Big was pathetic, and I would hope she would be recently divorced or divorcing him in the movie. Charlotte and Harry are solid, and I can buy them as a successful couple. Miranda is good as the career-focused woman who doesn't need a partner but finds one anyway. But seriously, Samantha coupling up?! She never needed a guy for anything but sex, and to leave her coupled up was ridiculous. She never was the type to whine and look to a man to solve all her problems. She had her own income, could buy her own jewelry and had her own independence. To have her character suddenly discover that happiness was dependent on a relationship was trite and backward thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe first movie was just fantastic....the second one not so much. Here's hoping the third one is more like the first!
ReplyDeleteAgree that Samantha is meant to be single.
ReplyDeleteI thought the show jumped the shark a bit when Carrie went to Paris with the Russian. That made no sense to me.
Interesting tidbit about Candace Bushnell getting screwed over with the dollas dollas.
*stamps foot, shakes head* Neiiiiiighhhh!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a good movie if they go back to the writing from the first two seasons of the show, and cool it with the fashion shit.
ReplyDelete
