Scientologists Glued Themselves To John Travolta For Two Years After Son's Death
Without probably meaning to do so John Travolta made Scientology seem even more creepy and desperate to keep their secrets secret. In an interview with The Telegraph John Travolta was asked how he got involved with Scientology and he tells a story about how a co-star was involved with the group and he performed an assist. It sounds more like what Travolta likes doing to masseurs, but whatever. Travolta said he wasn't feeling well and then after the assist from the guy started feeling better almost immediately. It's great that he now wants to assist so many others.
Surprisingly that is not even the creepy part of the interview. Remember after the death of his son Jett how there were lots of stories published that said Travolta was thinking of breaking from the organization because of its beliefs. Well, I'm guessing that many of those reports were probably true based on this quote from John.
"They were with me every day after Jett died. They even traveled with me when I needed to get away. And for a solid two years it was like that. It was only in the second year that I started to take a break of a day or two just to see how I was doing on my own."
So, umm his son died and they stuck to him like glue for two years. No matter where he went or what he did someone was there for two years. He had no time alone until the second year and then only for a day or two? Sounds more like a prison pass than helping him heal.
This organization came after my family a few years ago. We had to tell Rob that we wouldn't be home that day because we didn't want him telling them squat.
ReplyDeleteThey are bad news.
I gave them your info. Teehee
DeleteSo who was the co star?
ReplyDeleteWhere's Shelly?!
ReplyDeleteI miss Agent*It. I can't recall how she spelled her name.
@Rhysie- Agent**It. Miss her too.
DeleteI can't imagine having someone oversee me day after day, especially if I was mourning my son. Then the want money? I don't get this cult. I just don't. They seem more mafia than anything.
ReplyDeleteWell, he must be an idiot to put up with this, thats all I can say.
ReplyDeleteI read it quickly as "gynecologists glued themselves..." I was trying to wrap my head around that when my brain corrected itself. I would rather hang out with a team of gynecologists for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat is beyond creepy, but as time goes on, I have less sympathy for him. He's a grown ass man, and if he wants out, he should just leave. At this point, everyone knows about their smear tactics, and really, who cares?
ReplyDeleteMeanie/Lotta - I miss Agent*It too!
I miss Agent*It, too!!
ReplyDeleteI also miss Agent!
ReplyDeleteI also miss Agent**It.
ReplyDeleteWHERE'S SHELLY?!?!?!
Chiming on the Agent love. I miss you!
ReplyDeleteAlso, what's an assist and where's shelly?
ReplyDeleteThey brainwashed him into believing they were there as his support system. He said he started taking a day or two "just to see how I was doing on my own". He probably actually believed they were letting him take a break and not having him monitored at all times.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the other day about Philip Seymour Hoffman and his role in The Master. If you've ever seen it, it's obviously loosely based on $cio and LRH (PSH's role). When I saw it, I couldn't believe $cio let it get made - I thought their hooks were deeper into Hollywood than that. Fast forward less than two years after its release date and one year after tons of Oscar and GG nominations, and PSH is suddenly relapsing after 23 years of sobriety.
It's probably a coincidence, but these are the people who broke into the IRS offices and stole records, planted employees in bureaucracy, and conducted a clandestine operation called "Operation Snow White" to try and erase all negative governmental files about them. Stranger things have happened.
Oh, and where's Agent?
DeleteOh my God. Now this is all I'll be thinking about for the unforseeable future. I want to email Tony Ortega.
Delete@Seven - interesting thought. Has anything mysterious happened to Paul Haig yet?
ReplyDeleteSorry, meant Paul Haggis. Paul Haig is a Scottish indie rocker. My bad.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting theory, Seven, and totally wouldn't surprise me.
ReplyDeleteNutty - Paul seems to be okay (for the time being).
LOL @ Nutty Flavor, you'd think Paul HAGGIS would be the Scottish rocker!
ReplyDeleteI miss Agent**It too. Come baaaaaccck!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is just me or was his son a weird clone of John? It is almost creepy how much they looked alike.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who is giving COo$ the benefit of the doubt here thinking, "But they're just being supportive... I think..."
ReplyDeleteConsider if you lost someone in your life and then someone from your church spent every. single. day. for the next TWO years with you. That's not support, that's control.
Yeah. In my church we usually just take turns each week baking a casserole for the bereaved.
DeleteKels - I think Jett looked like a beautiful little boy who was doomed by being born into $cientology. Very, very sad.
ReplyDeleteIt is very sad. But why did this happen? Why is John Travolta so into this place? I looked up their philosophy, and while it is beautiful in theory, the rituals they use are weird. It is a direct violation of the balance of the sacred and profane- something isn't matching up.
DeleteYes his wife and his family and his friends are the people to console a man in grief. Not soldiers of the COS.
ReplyDeleteHis wife, family and friends are all COS
DeleteHis wife is part of the problem
ReplyDeletePaul Haggis is alive and well so far. He is hosting a party Oscar week.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing about COS is mind control and they get you to reveal your deepest darkest secrets on video and audiotape so they can blackmail you into submission if you are terrified about what you are hiding going public.
I still think this particular side of John Travolta is heartbreaking. I can't imagine losing a child and your world crashes around you. Im sure he was questioning everything about life. Of course they stuck to him like glue. Brainwashing him more and getting him deeper into the myth. Fucking assholes is what they are! I have no respect for those that take advantage of people in their weakest moments. That's all this cult does. For shame.
ReplyDelete@seven very interesting theory on PSH!
I always laugh because the story is Hubbard created this "religion" as a joke, he was a science fiction writer back in the 1950s and he and some other writers had a bet as to who could create the best fictional religion. That is pretty clear when you get into billion years contracts for the Sea Org and Zenu craziness. I think Hubbard was always a bit of shyster/con man and he took it and ran with it. The appeal is that the basic philosophy can help you be more productive in life the problem is COS is a money hungry machine and like other religions they are going to do whatever it takes to keep you in line and keep you in the organization esp if they want your money and in the case of the celebrity members they do not want to lose any of them because they are bait.
ReplyDeleteOne of the NY Times articles on COS I think talked about how Tom Cruise has drifted from the church and certain members were tasked to bring him back in and now they are grooming him to be one of the leaders.
I always thought he got involved with CoS via Diana Hyland whom he was dating at that time. They did a film together in1976.
ReplyDeleteThe whole fresking thing is a scam, and i just cant wrap my head around why anyone would listen to these whack jobs. I read people trying to get out, and sometimes they hit them with, well you promised a million years. And the cultee goes oh yeah, now i cant leave. Jesus christ!! Its all bullshit!!!!! Just leave ! You dont owe them shit; if anything, they owe you!!
ReplyDeleteI recommend reading Jenna Miscavige's book. She gives a first hand account as an insider who was raised in COS (uncle is David Miscavige). It made me understand the hold that the church has over them and why they believe these things that make no sense.
ReplyDeleteLRH was definitely a con man, but in later years seemed to become paranoid and genuinely nuts.
It sounds like it's no different than an abusive spouse. People always think why don't they just leave?
DeleteJust wanted to echo the Agent**It love. Also missing my other old faves Amber & DiaPapaya who seemed to disappear as well. :(
ReplyDeleteOther favorite commentors have taken to barely posting (LotaColada, Libby, JSierra) and it's just not the same! Pretty sad when we are relying on the K-trolls for comedy relief around here! COME BACK BETCHES! We miss your guesses & fun comments!
@Mama Ray - have you ever considered that they may have been the same person posting with different IDs?
DeleteOops - sorry for the mis-spelling obviously should have been *LottaColada*
ReplyDeleteI always thought it was Diana who led him to the religion.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting and believable theory as to PSH's death.
@7 those $ci people are a weird bunch...
ReplyDeleteI live in Tampa, FL and when I drive by their multi-million dollar complex in Clearwater I notice that the parking lot is ALWAYS empty...I'm willing to bet it is not staffed or furnished...
I agree, John should just *man up* almost everyone is familiar with their tactics by now...Xenu anyone?
I miss Agent, too. Where is Shelley??
ReplyDelete(No, I didn't buy that she spoke to the police and told them she was a-okay. Not of her own free will, anyway.)
I miss Agent, too. Where is Shelley??
ReplyDelete(No, I didn't buy that she spoke to the police and told them she was a-okay. Not of her own free will, anyway.)
My first double post! Oops!
ReplyDeleteJohn's son Jett had seizures and needed meds. 2 prevent them and cos. Said it was against religion 2 medicate children. That's how he died. .. seizure. . That's why they never left him alone for 2 years. It's john's own fault for putting religion above medicine.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds similar to Jehovah's Witnesses and blood transfusions.
DeleteHis son was autistic and COS have a very twisted view on autism.
DeleteThe guy looking after Jett at the time wasn't a trainee nanny but you've guessed it- a member of COS and if I remember correctly was the guy John was photographed kissing on the lips at an airport.
So his autistic son was being looked after not by a nurse or trained child minder but by a member of COS untrained medically and socially who he kisses on the lips.
Course they were stuck to him.
Oh and the rumour I heard was that he is gay and that COS 'cured' him with auditing. Then he is caught in his own lie and what they know
Read Going Clear. It's some scary data. And let's call a spade a spade- it's a cult, regardless of their tax exempt stays. The Miscaivage niece is on my list to read.
ReplyDeleteaahh I miss Agent too.
ReplyDeleteSeven of Eleven - I totally agree with you....when it comes to $cientology, they are capable of ANYTHING
ReplyDeleteKirsty Alley introduced John to the Cult.
ReplyDeleteKirsty, during her cocain days, entered a Narconon facility and they got their hooks into her there. That's how they recruit many of their followers....through their "drug treatment" centers. Once there, addicts are given mega doses of vitamins washed down with Niacin then forced to take hours long saunas. It's is crazy. Have they helped people kick drugs and booze, some - yes. Are their numbers what they attest to? not even close.
ReplyDeletesprink a jehovahs witness can receive products called volume expanders which help with profusion in the absence of a blood transfusion. its not the same as the CO$ at all
ReplyDeleteWhere is Agent??
ReplyDeleteHubbard isn't really the reason why $cientology is so dangerous. It's all gotten beyond the pale since Miscavige took over.
ReplyDeleteWasn't this during the period Travolta was trying to leave? There were many rumors of him leaving Scieno due to the way Jet was treated. It's all just very sad and Hubbard sucked as a writer, but was a true conman.
ReplyDeleteScientology = religion only in the broadest definition; COS rec'd tax exempt, 501c-whatever exemption after papering IRS w/ years of litigation, a favored COS tactic to achieve its desired goals. By comparison, IRS is the perceived underdog in that battle, which is a pretty hi/lo achievement in itself! LRH was an extreme narcissist/con man-charmer, who was a Howard Hughes-like speed-freak/recluse in his later years, protected by a coterie of self-interested yes-men. His heir, David Miscavige, born/raised/tunnel visioned to Scientology precepts, has taken his authority to the extreme, ruling over his minions with a ham-handed iron fist, and behaving like Emporer Nero. He's batshit wacko. NYTimes reporter Janet Reitman's EXCELLENT book, "Inside Scientology" is the definitive, exhaustively researched document on the rise of LRH, the CoS, and the the current fear-based Pyongyang-like organization that is really just an extremely well-organized cash drain on its lemming-like followers...
ReplyDeleteJus' sayin'...
I miss Agsnt & some of the older gang, as well.
ReplyDeleteTravolta might have thought he was alone but he wasn't.
