People Magazine Gives Paula Deen The Cover
Apparently Paula Deen has suffered enough. That, at least according to Kneepads who put the former celebrity chef on its cover this week. They did one of their classic redemption stories and she says that she has been fighting to get her name back. Did she lose her name? 2013 was not a good year for Paula. There was the admission that she has used the N word. There was the lawsuit filed by an ex-employee accusing Deen of racial and sexual harassment. A judge threw out the racial component but let stand the sexual portion of the complaint. Deen settled with the employee for an undisclosed sum. She lost millions of dollars in endorsements and now People decided that she has suffered enough. I didn't know they were the arbiter of whether someone should be forgiven but they obviously have and give nothing but praise to her and also that her new company which was given $75M by a private investment company will make her an even larger market presence then she was prior to her empire collapsing.
Kneepads also is stopping putting actors kids pics on its pages and website unless approved by the parents first. Every other organization should be doing this too. Leave the kids out of the limelight!
ReplyDeleteWell, looks like she's at least learned about the power of perceived pentinence! And hopefully how to conjugate "is"
ReplyDeletepeople magazine, aka, this are the publicists we are closest friends with.
ReplyDeletethese* :) hit submit too quickly
ReplyDeleteSEXUAL HARASSMENT BAD RACIAL HARASSMENT OK THANKS JUDGE HOOTIE #SD #STFU #JIMMYDEAN #BOOFOO #WHITEFACEBOOK
ReplyDeleteAnd why shouldn't she deserve a comeback? Worse have been forgiven by the public.
ReplyDeleteChris Brown anybody???
DeleteTotally agree, Reno.
DeleteTHIS BITCH AGAIN?
ReplyDeleteYES TO THIS!! ^^
DeleteIt's a crime how the media dwindled down this situation to "She said the n-word after being robbed twenty years ago." No, she made her black employees work and enter through the back of her restaurant so as not to be seen and tried to throw an antebellum themed wedding with blacks playing servants. It was about more than the n-word.
ReplyDeleteAgree chris. I cant forget that, esp that wedding idea!!!! Then again i never watched her anyway. But she is to the bone prejudiced. People can decide what they want to do about her.
DeleteI can't believe they gave Paula the cover over Harold Ramis! (presumably the 'Death of a Comedy Legend' p. 28 on the yellow corner tab)
ReplyDelete@Chris @What!!! I didn't know that. Umm ... Racism noted!
ReplyDeleteI really like Ina Garten. She is my favorite on the Food Network.
ReplyDeleteBruce, come with me to the Hamptons this summer. I'll have Ina whip up a menu for us.
DeleteShe's a racist, but she hasn't murdered anyone. I've heard racists comments come from many different ethnic groups. I've even been the brunt of the hurtful words. It exists and it happens unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteYOU CAN MURDER PEOPLE WITH WORDS
DeleteDear troll, I <3 u!
DeleteShe has sad fawn eyes.
ReplyDeleteIs that Paula Dean or Katy Perry? Ever since I saw a disturbing set of pics earlier, I have a really hard time telling them apart.
ReplyDeleteGawker has a hilarious account of a person who took PD money grab holiday cruise - it's a long article, but worth the read detailing the makeup of people who take these celeb cruises; PD often tardiness; racism - the authors owns biases included.
ReplyDeleteI find PD vile - more so, how she promoted unhealthy cooking, while hiding her diabetes - then that turn around for money. A fraud and the worst kind of stereotypical Southern, I can imagine. Don't let her grandmother BS and baby blues suck you in.
Scott, that sounds like a great idea!
ReplyDeleteIt's just like the Duck jerks….Money talks
ReplyDeleteAt least she did not lie under oath like most of us would (not that most would say such vile things of THAT nature) so I respect her for that. I do NOT respect her for being a unhealthy diabetic pushing her garbage recipes to the public.
ReplyDeleteRESPECT FOR TRUTHFUL RACIST?!!!! #LOWSTANDARDS #CHECKURFLYTRAPFORDINNER
DeleteI still don't care.
ReplyDeleteI had lunch with her once and she was charming, sweet and funny. I was appalled when the stories about her came out, but everyone deserves to learn their lesson, mend their ways and move on. Now she needs to prove it...
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Shirley Temple on the cover - or even a small photo of her or an article inside?
ReplyDeleteI totally believe she's sorry she got caught and lost her court case, but not much else.
ReplyDeleteWORDs UP @fontlover!
ReplyDeleteKimba! Now I have a bright red jock in mind and I can't get it oot...
Delete@TTM, I saw Cameo in Seattle in the mid 80's - I was a bad teen!
ReplyDelete#iheartredcodpiece
@Kimba Cameo were hot!
ReplyDeleteTalk about an air brushed cover!
ReplyDeleteShe should give a lot of $$$ to naacp and then she and galliano could be great amigos
ReplyDeleteChris, I assume you have never eaten at her restaurant. It's about 70% black employees and they are all front and center at the buffet tables. I highly doubt she makes them all come in through the back. What kind of sense does that make...

Oh please, you give People magazine too much credit, like they have an opinion about her. Actually the do, their opinion is her PR team payed the right amount if money to put her on the cover, jut like Adam Levine became the sexiest man.
ReplyDeleteDerek: I just received her son Bobby Dean's cookbook "From Momma's Table to Mine" in my latest Amazon order. I have yet to make something from it, but it's healthier versions of a lot of Paula's food. I'm sure I'll blog about it when I whip something up from it. It looks good!!
ReplyDeleteThis country loves a comeback story so let's see how it unfolds. I have a feeling she's going to bounce back. Not saying that's right or wrong, just saying. I thought the whole situation with her losing virtually every endorsement under the sun and Food Network dropping her was outrageous. There are celebrities in every genre: music, athletics, acting, politics who do vile vile things and they all get second chances. So, why shouldn't Paula. A lesser person would have just lied under oath. At the end of the day, she got fired for what she said under oath. At the time of her firing it was all she said vs. she said. That's why it was very baffling to me.
And you know, I do think an old person can change his or her ways. Thirty years ago if you asked my 70-year-old Dad, a straight up Italian Catholic Republican about his thoughts on gay marriage, he no doubt would not please many of you. Fastforward to current times: He's attended two gay weddings of my cousins and has supported them, their partners, their lifestyles with open arms. He loves them and does not judge them. He would do anything for them. So, I guess my point is, we can grow up with certain beliefs but over time we can realize that those beliefs aren't always right.
And, I like Paula and I do believe that she has probably learned a great deal from the entire situation.
Go ahead and call me a racist now.

ReplyDeleteRight on, @scissors. Adam Levine over Chris Hemsworth? Please, this isn't "People" magazine, it's "Publicists" magazine.
ReplyDelete@Kimba, that article was hilarious!
She uttered the N-word decades ago. Big Woo. I read her deposition, and a lot things she said were taken out of context. She should have had better counsel when she was deposed, to require that certain details be better explained since she is a public figure so of course she's going to be quoted. Instead, she made a rookie mistake and figured since she wasn't guilty of the charges, then she shouldn't need hardcore counsel during a deposition. Mistake. Case in point, the perception that she said she wanted blacks to serve at her son's wedding. She never said that. She said she wanted it to be like a restaurnt where the servers where dressed very neatly, etc. It was that presentation she wanted (crisp, white shirts, black pants, antebellum decor, etc) . Then she was asked if the servers at that restaurant were black. The answer was yes. It was a restaurant in Georgia in the 1950's. That is not the same as saying, "I want black people to serve."
ReplyDelete@Jennifer H. Why would she ask if the servers were black I mean, what the hell does that matter - sorry, I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteA pound of butter fixes everything.
ReplyDelete@Leekalicious I believe the Death of a Comedy Legend bit is about Sid Caesar. Harold Ramis just passed away so they wouldn't have had time to create a whole new copy.
ReplyDelete@RowdyRod
ReplyDeleteI guess you're right there - it was only a couple of days ago at most ...
@Megan it absolutely makes sense. She's okay with having black people SERVE you, but it wouldn't do to let them use the entrance just like they're anybody else, now would it?
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of problems with Paula Deen. Number one is simply that she is not sincere. I don't believe a word out of her mouth - she's all about the money and fame. Fortunately, that type usually gets brought down. Her comeback absolutely cannot stick, because she's not worthy.
the question isn't did only the black servers use the back door But did ALL her servers use the back door..and her cooks, busboys, dishwashers, maitre de, wine steward, hostesses..hell, coat check girl.
ReplyDeleteSome businesses do not like having staff troop through/past guests on their way to line up, so that the waiting guest can fume until their server pop out 10 minutes later to get their order...
Barf.
