  7. All right. I will admit it. I still enjoy watching The Sound of Music. Still winder about the whole Austrian navy thing. What with Austria being landlocked and all.

  8. ...I thought Brigetta was the second oldest and Maria was the mother. "how do you solve a problem like Maria, hooooow do you hold a moon beam in your hand"

    1. All of the children's names in the play/movie were made up. Maria was coincidentally this woman's name IRL as well as her stepmother's.

  9. OneEyeCharlie, before WW1, the Austro-Hungarian empire controlled a large hunk of northern Italy, and Trieste, most with seaports. I assume Capt Von Trapp was in the navy before and during the first WW.

That's why there was an Austrian Navy.

  11. You know, she may be the last surviving member of the original children, but she's not the last surviving member of the family. Several of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren still perform, and they still own the lodge in Vermont.

  13. Sound of Music - still my favorite movie, watch it every chance I get. Cry beginning to end, even hum a tune when I'm sad. I'm a cool cucumber, but it brings out my sentimentality (Christopher Plummer looks like the men in my family or versa versa). Glad this is an annoymous post!
Incredible life stories the Von T's.
