Blind Items Revealed

November 13, 2013

This forever A list diva interacted as little as possible with this current A list celebrity/singer/diva in training who wanted to hang out with the superstar. The superstar told her to come back in a few years when she had not been copying someone and when she was off the drugs and off the shock. I'm guessing shock meant shock value.  Would make sense.

Barbra Streisand/Lady GaGa

  1. Huh. I would not have guessed that Gaga was looking to Barbra Streisand for mentoring

  2. Gaga has talent---there is no denying that but her shtick got old and the public is no longer buying it. I think that is why other celebs have been embracing Miley so much and push Gaga outta peoples consciousness. There is only so much room for pop stars and Katy Perry fans sure are loyal..

  3. Good advise from Barbara

  4. Brooklyn (and my high school) in da house! You go Barbra!

  5. Yep Derek is right, Gaga has lost her way, she needs to go back to her talent and give up the shock.

  6. sandybrook, you're from Brooklyn too? Which HS did B go to? I went to Midwood!

  7. Aiii, Gaga. NYU Tisch School of the Arts diploma is not enough. Get back to the workshops and the theaters and earn your chops. Derek Harvey is right. She has talent - I think more than McDonna, interms of music and composing: but she mainlined fame too fast.

  8. I have to say that I love the song "You and I", I didn't even know it was her, thought it was a country singer. She has a lot of talent, just not the same type as Babs

My mother was from East Flatbush, my father from Brownsville, Both went to Tilden. I lived in Canarsie until I was 12.

  12. I went to college next to Midwood :)And actually Erasmus and Midwood hated each other with a passion!

  13. Gaga indeed can sing and I believe she was driven by her record company to create this persona. However, if she now does to something simple does she get called out for copying Madonna in her Evita phase? Poor girl may never win.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I really like that one, too, although I know nobody is supposed to. R Kelly. Good song, though, fun

  15. Wow TTM I really do like your hair. I think that lighter blond looks good.

TTM - I'd love to see your hair up in a donut (you know, those round things that you feed your hair into - like I was wearing in my profile pic these past few days) - I reckon you have killer cheekbones

  16. sandybrook - ah Brooklyn College, and I'm such an old I can't remember about HS rivals. :)

  17. I hate to say this, but when I heard Gaga's 2nd album, I thought it was something new from Madonna.
If Gaga could bear to strip away all the schtick, she might have a long career like Babs, but I doubt it.
And yeah, I can see Gaga trying to talk to La Stresiand bout career advice, that woman has been selling out concert halls and racking up awards forever and ever and ever.
Just don't let her direct a movie.

  18. I read a biography about Barbra years ago. She went on an acting audition and the casting folks were commenting on her 'uncommon' looks etc the whole time she spoke with them. They also talked about how rude she was for chewing gum during the interview. Right before she left she took the gum out of her mouth and stuck it under her seat.
Of course, once she was gone one of the casters went to scrape it off

    There was no gum

She got the part. (I don't recall if it was a movie or theater. It was right at the start of her career)

  19. A list in November? 2013? mehhhhh

  20. I hope Gaga didn't hit Babs with her disco stick

I like Gaga's music and weirdo performances. At least she's entertaining

  21. Bacon - great tidbit! I wonder if it was Funny Girl.

  22. From reading the alumni page for HS on fb those oldies that went to school with Barbra knew she was gonna make it big but she was kind of awkward and aloof with them and as far as anyone can tell she never kept her childhood friends. Also, Neil Diamond was there at the same time she was but he moved away and graduated from another Bklyn school.

  23. Actually it is the name of the major street in Brooklyn and I never thought of it like that until just now Sunny :)

  24. Big ups to Brooklyn! Bay Ridge in da house.

Moved before school, but spent a lot of my summers at my grandparents' house. The Fortway Theater is now a Chinese grocery store :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. Team Babs. I think Gaga is talented, but now that we know who she is, she needs to lose the schtick. Think Bob Dylan:Unplugged.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You know, it may have been msgirl!
Neil Diamond didn't bring her flowers, wonder why Gaga thinks she's gonna fall into favor.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yay Count and Mama's mama! Bay Ridge is still a beautiful place if you live near the water anyway.

  28. I have been to Brooklyn twice and I love it. Much cooler than Toronto I must say..

    ReplyDelete
  29. I SO want this to be true.

  30. When this blind was originally published, I think the prevailing answer was Cher. I never thought GaGa would have the pecans to try to fawn/glom onto Barbra...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have to agree with a lot of commenters here...Gaga has real talent. Look up one of her live performances from the Howard Stern show. She's done "Edge of Glory" and "Hair". Also did a more recent song on her last appearance but I can't remember what it was. She is very talented. And she writes damn good pop songs, too. But I think she's got her head way up her ass and has really bought into her own vision of herself as an "artiste". In her last interview with Stern, she talked a lot about her "art" and her "craft". I respect what she and other musicians do...when done well, it really is an art. But she's gotten too far out there and she's lost touch with the fans. She needs to strip it all away and just get back to writing good music.

  32. team babs. it's about time someone called gaga out.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bacon Ranch, that story is always told to actors. I think I first heard that in high school drama.

    ReplyDelete
  34. When you get older, you just don't tolerate BS like you used to. I'm not going to fault Barbra for that.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Babs told her off! Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hold on @fancy I had a lotta friends who lived on Tennis Court. Ever eat at Kees when it was there?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Look at all of Brooklyn right here at CDaN!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I read a bio on Lucille Ball and there was a story of a party Lucy was at in NYC and a young woman who was an up and coming singer was there and she was asked to sing a few songs for the guests.

Her reply was "I only sing for money"

    The young singer. Barbara Streisand.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh I love Babs even more!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL! So funny! So does this mean that Babs is #TeamLinaMorgana?:

And here is another reason to love Babs:

    http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2013/12/barbra-streisand-helps-diane-lane-in-divorce-from-josh-brolin/

She just doesn't deserve the constant Jennifer Aniston lookalike references!

  42. @Step---yah okkkk ; )

  43. Team Bensonhurst in the house. My entire family grew up there. My 85 year old grandfather has spent his entire life there. Boy has it changed. Love Brooklyn.

Team Babs. Gaga has gotten progressively just odd & instead of having an entire album with maybe one song I don't like she has an entire album with one song I like. Shock value has a short shelf life. Like the meat on her dress.

  44. She lost me at the meat dress.
