Blind Item #6

Two aging rock stars. Both were A list back in the day although one was A list as a solo artist (then memorably and briefly with a group) and one was A list for way longer as the singer for an A list group. Last night at a party there was a groupie they both wanted. Instead of fighting about it, the pair talked the groupie into having sex with both of them backstage. The groupie was not even old enough to remember when the pair were even relevant in music.

  1. This one is too hard. I prefer my tunes to be song by a Real Housewife...

    1. I'm waiting for Back Door Farrah's new song to come out. I think it's called Whisper Cry.

  2. I don't think that could be any more vague. From the 60's, 70's, 80's? It could be anyone.

  3. This better not be Sammy Hagar!

  4. Mick Jagger for the A list rocker in an A list group?

Who's been a solo artist first and a memorable member of a group?

  5. @Reno---keep your eye out for old rock stars in the daily pics haha

  6. Wonder if it could be Sammy Hager & David Lee Roth?

  7. @Sugar--Bowie-but he is A++ obvis.

    1. Obvisy, Derek. I actually though of him as well but I would like to think he's above random groupie sex. He's David Bowie! He's always relevant!

  8. Suzyanne, great minds!

  9. So, if she didn't know their relevance, she just slept with two old dudes? Groupies need to get their shit together.

  10. Sammy Hagar and Nikki Sixx? He has his bachelor party around now, no?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sting & Paul Simon

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sting and Paul Simon. They were in Vancouver last night

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sammy Hagar was always in groups. He started in a group called Montrose formed his own group then joined Van Halen and it wasnt brief.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sorry, Alist singer can't be Sixx. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was at Sixx's parties lately. Vince?

    ReplyDelete
  15. A-list solo artist *then* in a band... Tom Petty?

    ReplyDelete
  16. The majority of Sammy Hagar's work is considered solo work, and seriously I really don't want this to be him. He puts on one of the best live shows around.

    ReplyDelete
  17. What about Neil Young? Neil Young a Crazy Horse or something--he was also in Pearl Jam for a minute

    ReplyDelete
  18. No Neil Young was in quite a few groups.

    ReplyDelete
  19. But Sting started out with The Police, then went solo. And The Police were around for a long time. Also, Tom Petty started out as Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, right? And Paul Simon? I can't even begin to imagine him and a groupie three-way back stage.

PEW! PEW!! PEW!!! Shooting down guesses left and right over here! PEW!!

  20. George Michael and boy george

  21. This could take months, folks. Sounds like any day that ends in y for rock stars to me. But now Nerf Herder's "Van Halen" will be stuck in my head all day :/

  22. Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper.

Heaven help us all from the visions and the children from the free flowing STDs, amen

  23. There aren't that many a list solo artists that join a group. This should be easy.
This, unfortunately, sounds like Sammy Hagar.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Dunno if I'd consider Hagar's solo career A-List, nor his time in Van Halen brief. But otherwise, he does fit.

Petty fits a little more, defitition-of-brief-wise, but he wasn't *really* a solo artist. It might be a safe assumption that not everyone feels as strict about that, though. "Tome Petty And The Heartbreakers" can seem an awful lot like "Tom Petty. And the Heartbreakers."

Bob Dylan also fits... but then the other singer who'd been A List for "way longer" would basically have to be Frank Sinatra, a scenario too grisly to consider.

Hell, even if it's Petty (it probably isn't, but whatever), the other singer has to be Jagger, right?

  26. Hagar and Micheal Anthony from VH. That's all I got.

  27. Tome Petty is not as good as Tom Petty, I should mention.

  28. Dave Navarro and trent reznor? Friday enty is young so maybe

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought about Dave Navarro. He started out in Jane's Addiction. I like the Reznor guess.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My first thought was Bob Dylan b/c of his "Dylan and The Dead" album. And, frankly, the thought makes me want to question all of existence.

All that to say, I got nothin'!

  33. David Bowie "joined" Tin Machine for two albums.
Rod Stewart was both a solo artist and a member of the Faces, but his solo career took over while the Faces were already having hits.
Scott Weiland was known as the frontman for Stone Temple Pilots before he joined Velvet Revolver (basically Guns 'n' Roses minus Axl Rose).
Bob Dylan was in The Travelling Wilburys and almost joined The Grateful Dead at one point, but it would be hard to find somebody who would be A list in a band for way longer...

  34. Between writing/recording/touring w/NIN, working on Beats w/Dre, doing the Gone Girl soundtrack, raising two little boys, and God only knows what else, I tend to think Reznor is way too busy to even consider screwing around right now, not to mention his wife would kick his ass. Oh, yeah, forgot: he's probably working on more How to Destroy Angels music w/her, too, so add something else to his to-do list...

Other than that, I'm not sure who this would be--Steven Tyler might make sense for the singer-with-a-group, but I have no idea who the other guy would be. Since the groupie is probably somewhere between 15-25, I'm thinking these guys were big some time before about 1995, if that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I can't see David Bowie doing this, Iman would deck him in a heartbeat.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'll go with the Navarro and Reznor guess. I think we're talking A listers who have been around for a while but not LEGENDS. Ain't no way Sting and Paul Simon want backstage groupie poon. Although I can see Jaggar still hitting that. Bowie? Oh, baby. Just you shut your mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ok, so not trent reznor, but I think the early 90's is the time to look... I'm still going Dave Navarro for one of them

    ReplyDelete
  38. Steven Tyler and Sammy haggar

    ReplyDelete
  39. It had to be two men who were performing together. That narrows things down considerably. Yes to Sting and Paul Simon.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What about Eric Clapton? Him and Mick?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bowie and Jagger and Angela Bowie and a time machine.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Without any clues as to era, Clapton / Jagger fits. My gut tells me we're looking for 80s metal guys, though.

    ReplyDelete
  43. How about Steve Winwood for the solo artist joining the group? He was solo then joined Powerstation w John Taylor from Duran Duran and some blurry dude I can't remember in the mid 80s, they had at least one album, maybe two. It was a blink and you'd missed it kinda thang.
    And let's see--how about....
Englebert Humperdinck for the way longer A lister?
Loving all theses crazy guesses today btw, it's cheering me up. :-)

  44. Steve Winwood wasn't in Power Station. Robert Palmer was but he's dead.

Navarro isn't the singer of a band and wasn't solo before Janes.

I agree with Robin's analysis of Trent; not him.

Neither Paul Simon nor Sting were known as solo before they were in their respective groups.

Bowie has been really sick and Tin Machine wasn't *that* known to warrant the description -- and I saw them live. JAC should win for the Angela Bowie/time machine answer because if this was 197? it would be right on.

I feel like Sugar. Don't have anyone to add but metal feels right and so does Steven Tyler for the non-soloist.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That wasn't Winwood in Power Station, that was Robert Palmer. And I reeeeeally hope it isn't him, because he's been dead for nine years.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Winwood was in something, though, if only I knew where The Google was...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ted Nugent actually fits... But then the A-Lister from "way longer" would have to have been active in the 60s at the *most recent.*

    ReplyDelete
  48. TalksTooMuch: Yeah, you're right. Winwod was in a band called Blind Faith and a band called Traffic. But both of them predate his solo career.

And that's the thing, an artist starting off solo and then joining a band is rare. I'm almost wondering if the Brief Group is something like Band Aid or USA For Africa. Something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Seconding cultural turd Nugent as the soloist.

I'm assuming "way longer" only refers to the length of time the group singer was A-list when compared to the musician who was a soloist,

    ReplyDelete
  50. @TTM Steve Winwood was in Spencer Davis Group Traffic and Blind Faith.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks, JAC and sandybrook! Bring me a higher loveee

  52. Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger. Mick has been famous since the Stones. Rod had a bit of a solo career in England before joining the Faces.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ah, Power Station.

"Some like it hot, and some sweat when the heat is on."

If I've gotta have that rattling around in my head, so do you! L

    ReplyDelete
  54. TTM- Clapton and Mick are rumored to have bumped uglies back in the hedonism that was the 60s and 70s Swinging London rock scene. It would be easy to have a 3 way after that.

    ReplyDelete
  55. These dudes are like 70 freaking years old though!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. John Waite (solo and then with Bad English) and Axl Rose.

    ReplyDelete
  57. TLP I got in the biggest fight with my MIL aboot that, but you're right. Funny that Clapton never mentioned that in his autobiography.

Jon: I love that guess! Old rocker sandwich with all ginger bread!

How did I miss / forget that Robert Palmer is dead??

    ReplyDelete
  58. Mick Jagger for the lead in a group. He's never gone out as a solo act.

No idea who #2 is. Can't think of anyone who was solo and then in a group.

    ReplyDelete
  59. :-D :-D :-D

So what was in it for this stupid groupie? Fame? Fortune? Charity? Money? Did her Mom send her?

Not even born when they were in their heyday, yet it seemed cool to bang two old guys because...they're famous?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Stewart Small faces before solo career Maggie May, I'm losing you, and Steve Winwood who played with Clapton, Baker etc.. I'm a Man - Gimme some lovin, played with traffic
