Blind Item #3

This B list actress from a hit cable show will probably fade to a C list writer once the show ends but for now she is a star. She is also constantly talking about the actor who wouldn't sleep with her and who couldn't stand the actress. There is not an hour in the day where she isn't mentioning him or trying to find out what he is doing and her talk about him is all talk.

  1. Lena Dunham. Easy easy if I can guess it! Can't blame the guy, though! Who'd sleep with her?

  2. I was going to say Lena but wouldn't it have been paid/premium cable in blind and Girls is only a hit in the minds of some critics and apparently HBO execs. One of the lowest viewerships on cable - paid/premium or otherwise.

    1. Interesting. Wonder how Lene's Vogue cover will do.

    2. She's writing a book too.

    3. Nutty - I'm sure her vogue cover will do fine - just the kind of posers that would think they should be 'into' dunham are probably into vogue. Eventually HBO will figure it out and cancel girls and the phenomenon will be over.

  5. I was a fan of the first two seasons of Girls and this season so far has been unwatchable and really not funny.

I think Lena Dunham is as self obsessed as it gets.

  6. Lena is A list. Just because you don't like her does not mean she ranks lower. (targeted towards the writer of the blind--not the com mentors!) She has won a Golden Globe and other awards. She writes and co-produces the show. Girls viewership has doubled since the season premier and the dvd sales are through the roof. The viewership was on the low-end because most of the target audience does not have access to HBO. Lena also has a handsome bf in a successful band. This may meant to be her but calling her B list is bullshit.

  7. @Timebob--I agree the new season is not great so far--well the 1st 2 episodes were real BAD! Jessa in rehab was so stupid. I liked the 3rd episode with Adams sister though. Gabby Hoffman was hilarious. TV critics who have seen the season say it really picks up on the 4th episode and then is brilliant. So Im hanging in there---though I agree it is kinda lame so far

  10. I can't stand and never did like Lena Dunham.
Stumbled onto Tiny Furniture on cable--utilizes the same constructs on Girls.
Awards are given to people in the industry by people in the industry, if she won a PCA, that'd be different.
She's flavor of the month right now.
    And I think she's a massive egotist.

here's a quote “If you’re not into me, that’s your problem, and you are going to have to kind of work that out with whatever professionals you’ve hired.”

Can't figure out how to do clicky thingy, but here's an article
    http://nypost.com/2014/01/10/girls-go-wild-on-tv-critic/
no, Lena, I' not "into you" I think you're an overprivileged twat who has very connected parents. There are more talented people than you working at Starbux because they don't have the connections you do.

  11. @Blondie!, hey! Glad you stuck around!

Tiny Furniture keeps coming up on my "Netflix recommends you watch this" list. I think I may have to watch Girls so I have a reason to be so grumpy besides disliking Lena's posture.

@lucas, sorry, babe. She does have lovely eyes!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Derek, she may be A list RIGHT NOW as a writer/producer, but not as an actress. As an actress, she is most definitely B list. And I'm not just saying this because I want my glory as being the first AND right guess (wink wink)!! LOL!! Seriously, though…A list ACTRESSES on TV = Kaley Cuoco, Sofia Vergara.

  13. Hey @Seven! Happy Saturday!
Sorry for my mini-meltdown yesterday. Duck (sp mistake on purpse) job hunting.

Tiny Furniture is Girls redux. I wouldn't be surprised if she's re-using the constructs from her school films in everything she does. In a lot of her movies and I use that word loosely that she did in school, she was naked.
    And probably whiny.

We all eat giant hunks of cake whilst sitting naked in bath.

I reckon that she's naked so much, because she (a) can and (b) is soo madly in love with herself, she can't understand why the world isn't in love with her too.
Kudos to her massive ego. Kudos to her parents for opening doors for her.
I still think that if she wan't uber-connected, she'd be working as a low level pa somewhere.

  15. NN--no no I understand lol : )
I just think Lena deserves credit where credit is due. I just get defensive over my appreciation and sorta love for her. She is making her own rules whether you choose to watch her or not is your decision. The thing that really bothers me is people that say they don't like her but have never actually watched the show etc. Or worse dont like her cause she is "disgusting". I was sorta like that before I got into her show and realized I was being a sexist fool. If you don't like the show I understand but many people have not even given it a try. I did not like Tiny Furniture btw...

  18. and it is also interesting that Lucas, myself and Timebob like her (or at least watch the show) but most women here dislike her and the show....

  23. Dunham. I wonder if the actor is the guy who walked off the set of Girls and refused to return?

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Blonide---I understand you don't like her but she is one person that I can stay all day to defend and rebut if I must. Her parents are C list artists in NYC. They helped her with the budget for her first film Tiny Furniture and guess it was a good investment for their childs future. Martin Scorcesses first film was pretty bad also. It is not like her parents are Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (whom adore Lena after watching her movie and show). Hollywood is all nepotism and her parents never had real connections...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't like or dislike her, actually. I do admire her tremendously for being enough of a ballsy broad to be natural on screen. No starving herself, Chiclet veneers or plastic surgery. I am sick of looking at starving women who all look like they went to the same surgeon and cosmetic dentist. On the flip side, I also think she is abrasive and egotistical…generally not all that likable.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Derek--Defend if you must. As for "C List' parents, they can afford a rather large apartment in Tribeca, have paid for all of her expensive schooling, were able to buy her all sorts of pricey video equipment whilst she was in school.
    Etc, etc., etc.,
I could go on and on,but I'm boring myself.
We all have people whom we like/dislike.
Please enjoy Lena. Someone has to!

  28. Okay perhaps I am in the minority because I enjoyed.Tiny Furniture up til the end. I didn't care for Girls at all.

Blondie, I for one didn't feel like your share yesterday was a meltdown. Lord knows there have/are tons of us in your shoes. I've been laid off 3 jobs in a row for the last 3 yrs. This time if year makes me very nervous! Hang in there sweetie!

  29. I would be abrasive too if I always called spoiled, bratty, ugly, fat, undeserving by people and the media 24/7. Look at all the young actresses like Emma Roberts, Rashida Jones, Dakota Johnson -with REAL connections-that never have to defend how they got their start. It is because they are considered "pretty" girls that don't like Lena for the reasons Blondie has given simply don't like women that much *shrugs*

    1. Plus Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jake Gyllenhaal, Blake Lively, Miley Cyrus, Zooey Deschanel, Robert Downey Jr, Robin Thicke, Allison Williams, Ireland Baldwin, Zoe Kravitz... need I go on. At least half of Hollywood got their start because of their celeb parents. This is not exactly a valid criticism.

      Delete
  30. I have only seen bits of the show but so far I really like her too. I love someone who loves herself, and is not afraid of being abrasive and brash.

I like that she chose a persona so remove from the normal stereotypes, she maybe becoming one, but her being so different and being so gutsy, talented, proud while being less physically attractive is a very interesting combo to me.

So someone connected should not use their connexions? There are a lot of attractive women in the public eye who are connected, and I don't see anyone blaming them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. *"pretty". Girls that don't like...

  32. @ Derek Harvey

I am 100% with you on eveyrthing you've said on this thread.

I think a chubby girl with not so conventional facial features is not allowed to be proud, naked, savvy. She should just stay home, work as a pa, go on a diet, get plastic surgery and then we'll see.

  35. @Sherry, thank you so much for your kind words, advice and telling me (us) what happened to your husband. Thank you for being kind.
My last job, I was with for 3+ years, let go because the company was dying, out of work for 6 months, got a job, the owner was a pyschotic freak, let go and it's just been the roller coaster of hell since then.

@Derek--interesting thesis, you've pulled together. There are holes in it, but I'm not going to argue with you.
I will say this, for as many detractors there are out there, there are people championing Lena.
To me, telling a critic "You don't love me" is the height of arrogance.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Sophie, that's not what I'm saying. I'm actually thrilled that Lena doesn't fill the stereotype of what you need to look like to be on camera.
What annoys me is that when people get all swoony over her thinking that she did this all by herself. She didn't, if she hadn't the connections, none of those doors would have opened for her. None.
She'd be working at Starbux with the rest of the talented but but not connected crowd.
And yes, there are a lot of people, talented and non, who have made it due to connections.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I will say this--Lena is a "hot button"

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ Blondie:

    Hot button yes!!!

Also I am not disagreeing that she may be getting too much attention when considering her work vs. connexions. But other attractive women in the same situation are not being so bitterly judged.

How about the examples given by Derek: Emma Roberts? Rashida Jones? Dakota Johnson? Why are these women not blamed for using their connexions?

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Blondie---I agree with what she said to that critic but she was probably caught off-guard. She is still very young and she is in the entertainment industry -she is not a politician. That is why I find her so interesting and relevant-she really is bringing fourth serious discussions about a lot of issues in society whether she intended to or not so I think she needs to be cut some slack. and sorry for saying your anti-woman I am sure you are not--I just get a little bitchy when I argue ; )
and good luck with the job-search!

    ReplyDelete
  40. *I agree with what YOU said about what she said

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Sophie

Emma's constantly being slammed, not so much in the beginning, but as her bad behaviour's escalated, so had the slamming.

I don't think Rashida Jones is slammed because she can do her job and (according to ENTY) has done a lot of low-key kindness things.

As for Dakota Johnson and Katie Cassidy, they've generally been slammed due to the fact they get hire for high-profile gigs and can't fulfill the duties.

The sad truth is that connections will get you further than talent alone.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Derek--Pax!

Although I do find it telling that she said to a critic "You don't love me." That, to me, really states her mind set.
I think I need that mind set. YES!
    EVERYONE MUST LOVE ME! YES!
OMG, I could so NOT keep that up without laughing my ass off.

    ReplyDelete
  43. but once again Lena has no real connections ---she was discovered by Judd Apaltow who liked her first movie and showed interest in her work. All first-time film makers get financing from famliy and friends....Judd did not know her parents...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Blondie that is horrible---k last thing about this topic *promise!*--scanning the above blinds we have Tori Spelling we have Nicole Richie--now those are REAL examples of nepotism without the talent to merit any spotlight..

    ReplyDelete
  47. As a former actor I can tell you if you have conx you absolutely.must use them. Be it a generation above you(preferred) or friendships. Auditions and showcases and hoping for the best is even less reliable than the pull and pray method. It's truly a wonder people even think they'll be famous. However there are a shit ton of local actors who do it for love and whose talent far surpasses what we usually see on screen.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Derek--have on CNN now--apparently it happened in a mall in Columbia, Maryland. The shooter is dead. Not sure exactly how many are dead/wounded.

    This is awful.

As for Nicole and Tori, am with you. They're bloody awful.

Sherry, what you're saying is really true. Esp for acting.

I wish my mom was still alive, because she knew so many people and I don't think I'd be where I am (unemployed etc.,) if she were here.
I'm not saying she'd make someone give me a job, she never had that type of juice, but she'd be able to introduce me to people so they would be aware that I'm alive. Then, I'd have to take it from there.
I just want a door to open.

No more feeling sorry for myself!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I disagree with the assessment that people aren't critical of other more conventionally attractive women with connections. People always talk about how Gwyneth wouldn't be where she is if her parents hadn't Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner! We've all talked repeatedly about these entitled Hollywood brats who get ahead simply because of their connections (e.g. Rumor Willis, Dakota Johnson, Ireland Baldwin, etc.). Look at the comments about Nicole Richie from today, and you see the general consensus.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah but Nicole Richie never did anything to earn a spotlight. She just waltzed right and in was ready to be a fame whore. Lena wrote, directed and stared in a film that was considered a success. Nicole has no talent. Lena did not proclaim to be ready for her close-up to execs at HBO like the others. Her parents are NOT famous--no one could name them without google etc. As for Paltrow and Roberts---no one made a big deal about how they started-out UNTIL they started acting arrogant and weird. Lena may have gotten snippy with an interviewer and has said an occasional inappropriate thing on twitter but she is not drunk at the club every night or showing off her luxuries like those other fools. She loves her job and is appreciative of it.

Love Lena Dunham, love Girls. My hubby said a really great thing, he said he liked the fact that the actresses on Girls were attractive without being models. I think men are wanting to see more realistic portrayals on television as well.

  60. @Nutty and Derek Harvey - sorry but you're both wrong. Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica parker and Lena Dunham should never be on the cover of Vogue, or any fashion magazine. Magazine covers are for models, period. I'm sick and tired of seeing actresses on the covers of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, Marie Claire. If models shouldn't act, then actresses shouldn't model!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I like that the Dunham girl is "normal" looking but I find her public persona and red carpet posing quite off-putting. I'm told that's deliberate, if that's true then it's certainly effective.

I have no idea if Dunham's tv show is any good or not, it doesn't interest me.

    ReplyDelete
  62. It's not Lena's face or figure or nakedness that make her a target, it is her ego that shuts people off. Her acting talent is tepid at best, she hit lucky with the HBO position that she landed in. True Blood was ending, Sopranos was out and Treme was not fairing so well. If she was not so snotty in interviews, people would probably be more accepting of her "style".

    ReplyDelete
  63. It's not just Dunham I don't like - it's ALL the marginally talented actors on Girls, most of whom (Williams, Mamet, Kirke) got their jobs due to their connections in business. Not one of them had to actually "work" for it. And as such they're ALL annoying.

But yeah - if I see or hear one more thing about how Dunham is "the voice of her generation," not only will I scream, I will actually start feeling sorry for "her generation," because oh my God SO LAME. And whiny. And smug. And entitled. And really, REALLY annoying.
