Robin Roberts Comes Out As Gay
Sometimes you think to yourself that someone must have come out previously and I honestly thought Robin Roberts had done that but apparently she had not. Yesterday, in a post to her Facebook page the Good Morning America host and cancer survivor quietly came out to the world in the cool and classy way she seems to do everything in her life. "I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together."
This has been a long year for Robin but she has also been showered with a lot of love from fans all over the place and I really feared for her life and whether she would live to see 2014. I'm happy she felt comfortable to share her sexuality with the world and that she can live openly and without hiding who she is. People will still continue to love her.
Is she in remission or were they able to remove it?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she's okay, she really is a class act.
I love Robin Roberts. Classy lady. Glad she's okay.
ReplyDeleteShe could have taken the Kneepads cover route but she didn't.
I think someone in her family when she was sick mentioned her partner for the first time. In any case good for her she l;ooks good and shes back working
ReplyDeleteLove Robin!!
ReplyDeleteLast night my girl was all excited telling me robin roberts is gay!! I was like so what everyone knows that. I really thought it was a known thing. Guess not lol. She was outed/never really hid it for a loooong time.
ReplyDeleteI thought she came out long ago, it was just probably that I already spotted her…
ReplyDeleteI wish Robin & Amber well.
ReplyDeleteNo surprise, no bodys business. Good health to her altho i never watch the show.
ReplyDeleteAnd it really really goes against my grain that someone has to "come out"!!!!!!!! Mind your f*cking business!!!!!!!
DeleteTHANK You aunt kiddy, it truly bothers me that a person's sexual business is considered open for discussion, let alone used against them. For all those who fear getting hit on by " them".... Nancy Reagan ( yes, Nancy! 80' s AIDS Nancy) Said it best:
Delete" Just Say No”
Aunt liddy! Caught you this time Spellczheck
DeleteRobin is truly a classy lady. I wish her a long life, health, and happiness!
ReplyDeleteI remember not being surprised in the slightest when Ellen came out because I thought she already had. This was the same thing.
ReplyDeleteCongrats ladies.
I'm so confused by this. I'm certain she's talked about her girlfriend before. And didn't we know she was gay for the last 20 years? I guess the closet she came out of was glass, because we already knew1
ReplyDeleteI came out as straight when I was about 12. No photoshoot or magazine spread.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone was surprised.
Hopefully someday it will be as mundane for everyone.
But, she seems like a nice lady who deserves some happiness.
Oh, for the days when someone's sexuality was his/her business and none of mine.
ReplyDeleteAs for this case, classic publicity stunt. For what is TBD.
Fit!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought she came out already too. Glad she's well. That's the most important thing in all this
ReplyDeleteI just wish her continued good health, I can't imagine having to battle cancer twice, so closely.
ReplyDeleteHer sexuality, not my business.
Enty, if you thought she had already come out previously, why are you saying she was "hiding" who she is? She obviously was just living her life with the woman she loved and nobody cared either way. Why make a big deal out of it now? Of course people will still continue to love her.
ReplyDeleteI like Robin Roberts. She is a class act! Nothing can keep her down... cancer, media, or the Difficult Brown
ReplyDeleteShe's had it rough, but this is like news from 2004, right? Did anyone not know she was gay? I proposed that there should be a "National Coming Out Day," where everyone gets to come out, no judgment, and then not worry about what everyone's privates are doing.
ReplyDeleteI seriously cannot wait for a time when someone's sexuality is of no consequence. Really, who freaking cares, already? That said, good for Robin. Great lady in the best sense of the word.
ReplyDeleteI heard this while watching the news last night with my mother. It went something like:
ReplyDeleteNews: Robin Roberts send a letter to her fans coming out of the closet.
Me (said to my mother): You hear what was written on the letters her fans sent back?
Mom: What?
Me: Duh?
I'm not a huge Jodie Foster fan, but I do like her attitude about it, "I'm living my life, you don't need updates." You want people to know your gay/lez, just live your friggin life. People will figure it out.
I would like a celeb to send an announcement or have a press conference coming out as straight. Not to mock gays and lesbians, just to mock the PR aspect of sexuality and attention whoring it fosters. You know there was probably a celeb out there pissed Roberts came out, because now they have to put off their announcement for a little while until Roberts is done her press tour.
P.S. I think I caught a glimpse of her girlfriend on the news. She is hot.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how this constitutes a "coming out." She just thanked her longtime girlfriend. There was no extra statement saying "Yep, ya'll knew it-I'm gay."
ReplyDeleteThat's the difference here, in my opinion. People on here are saying that she shouldn't have to come out, but she didn't. When somebody comments about their husband or wife (whether in person, or on a comments section of the internet) we don't assume they are coming out as straight. Therefore, Robin mentioning her partner is only a coming-out if you choose to see it that way.
It took a little while to learn the rest of the story.
ReplyDeleteThis "coming out" was orchestrated by GLAAD to off-set the whole Duck Dynasty PR machine, cuz Roberts just signed a $14M, multi-year contract with ABC (which also owns A&E - so pass the Excedrin).
Um, okay...
Coming out isn't attention whoring. It still has meaning to people who feel ostracized by the people closest to them because of their sexuality. Basically, it's nice to know you're not alone and there is nothing wrong with you. People do go on to have great lives despite negativity from those around you. I know this is hard for some of us to understand when heterosexuality is casually considered to be the norm.
ReplyDeleteRobin has publicly thanked her partner before. People can infer whatever they want & this isn't news.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea she was gay. Then again, I didn't know much more about her than she's on news programs and she got sick. Pretty cool, though. Glad she is happy and doing well.
ReplyDeleteThe bummer part is there wasn't any footage on TV of the girlfriend by her side during her treatments. If she had a boyfriend instead, he would have been seen all over the videos.
It just sucks that gay people so often still have to hide their orientation. I can't wait for the day when nobody has to hide!
