Phil Robertson Says Men Should Marry 15 Year Olds

If you are Doug Hutchison you are a good man in Phil Robertson's book. Well until Phil finds out about Doug's other issues. But, the fact that a 50 something year old man married a 16 year old is exactly what Phil told men to do in a sermon. He says that you need to marry a woman when she is 15 or 16 because they will clean your duck and if you wait until they are 20 all they will do is pick your pocket. Umm, yeah. Now I know why Phil gets so excited when his grandchildren bring over their 15 and 16 year old girlfriends. He is looking for a future wife in case his own dies. I wonder if he really would try and marry a 15 year old or what he would say if one of his sons had brought home a 15 year old to marry. Do you think he means that you should get married at 15 or that men who are grown should be combing the high schools looking for a bride?

  5. I'm not really sure what to make of the post, but Phil's comments were from 2009 and he said something like "you need to marry them when they're 16, they'll pick your ducks" (picking duck feathers, I think). He married his wife when she was 16.

It continues to be a ratings ploy. Did you know that while everyone was obsessed with an old guy's view on homosexuality and race, Pres Obama signed the NDAA?

    1. Thank you 7! That's the big issue. This country will never be the same. Government let terrorists win. We all need to stand up and vote everyone out of office. Can't happen soon enough.

Child brides are easier for immature males to control. ((Shrugs)) that is what he means.

  8. He said this at a Christian retreat. I wish A&E never fired him to begin with. He's now a martyr to his fellow bigots.

  10. He is what he is. He believes what he believes. I have no problem with Phil voicing his opinion--he's completely out of his mind, but he has the right--but I am sick of this PC media backlash when someone says a "bad" word. Some things get way more attention than is actually required.

I'll keep up that record throughout 2014

  13. I've seen sermons like that (at revivals and such growing up). What I took away from them was that the preachers were encouraging teenagers to marry instead of having sex outside of marriage etc.
Teenagers. Marrying each other. Not creepy Tooms picking up some emotionally stunted Stodden.

Though it would be nice to see when he said this recently.

    7..interesting. Good catch!

  16. in my country (France), a teen girl can marry at 15 years under some conditions (the parents are okay and the guy is more 18 years old)

  17. Let's hope he means when the guy is 16 also, he could just be an advocate of teens marrying?

  18. My daughter is 15. Good luck trying to get her to clean a duck, because I can barely get her to clean her room. Also, don't expect her to cook said duck, unless it's pre-packaged into ready-to-microwave nuggets. She could make cake all day long, though. Or pasta.

I don't understand the preoccupation with young women. In these guys' fantasies, these virginal women are perfect at cooking and cleaning and having sex. The reality, though, is that a girl's inexperience will mean that she has to be taught everything, or that she will have to learn through many, many mistakes. I don't see him (or anyone of these idiots) having that sort of patience.

What Phil Robertson doesn't understand is that, no matter what age of woman they pick, she is not likely to be interested in him for his horrid personality. She could easily find a similar man down at the pole barn bar, drinking away his paycheck. Nope, any woman interested in him (especially if she is young and hasn't made her own way in the world), is looking for financial security and a little bit of fame.

    Idiot.

    2. OMG SeriouslyAwkward does your daughter know my daughter? Anyway he's got it wrong. There was one tribe in South America, the older women taught the younger guys how to be good husbands. Seems like a more Democratic level of enjoyment!

  19. So it's okay to encourage 15 and 16 year olds to be sexually active and have abortions, but it's reprehensible for them to be married? Surely you fucking jest.

    1. And is he really wanting 50 yr old sleeves to do it? More like a 20 yr old punk finding a 16 yr old gal who will be so impressed with an 'older man'. ;)

  21. I think women should marry 15 year old boys. As men hit their sexual peak around 18, and women around 35, makes much more sense than old dudes trying to hang on to their youths by banging girls barely out of their training bras.

  22. It's ironic that some of these commenters are accusing Phil of being ignorant.

    Pot - Kettle?

  23. @seriouslyawkward. Your first paragraph is so true. I have a 16 year old who I just arm wrestled for her cell phone so she'll clean her room. Cleaning a duck? Yeah right.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Unfortunately it is all the Bible. Lots of old dudes with very young wives.

  25. The preoccupation with young women is in part the virginity factor which is only important in certain cultures now, really, not in North America as a rule and youth = fertility, whether you are speaking of men or women, older men think younger women are easier to control, but some of the younger women I know, oh how times have changed, and last by not least it is male ego, I got this hot pretty young thing on my arm so it means I am hot stuff so envy me guys.

Unless the older man is also handsome, people are actually snickering thinking yeah that golddigger has got that old fool fooled except the other old guys who wish they had a hot pretty young thing on their arm too. Even if she doesn't stick around long.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What is harder to understand is younger women with older men with no looks or no money but I guess the term "no money" is relative.

All he really wants is an au pair with benefits. His wife is little more than a semen depository and servant but at least he got her before she grew a personality and ambitions of her own.

  28. Hmm so actually he said this in the documentary I am second. It reffered to he and his wife marrying young. That there was a saying that if you waited till you were older to marry women would just be looking to pick your pockets. I took it to mean he married younger for love since the woman married him when he had nothing. This man is 67 years old. If you have ever talked to anyone from that generation they often have funny traditions, sayings etc. My grandma is 68 and some of her "life lessons" are hilarious. So I don't think he was telling 50 year olds to marry 15 year olds, but then of course he is a Christian so he must be terrible.

  32. That's not what he said, Kay was 15 and Phil was 16 or 17...

    (Your intolerance is showing)

  33. 15 is a little too young. I need a woman who is more experienced and knows how to please a man. You get no residuals for teaching them everything. So I'd say 16 would be the age.

If you are married to a 15 y/o and you beat her, would she call the police or CPS?

I think Phil was referring strictly to his marriage to Miss Kay. They married young when they had nothing. My grandparents marries very young as well. My husband and I have known each other since we were 13. We first started dating at 15, had a couple of break ups and got married at 21. He told me he knew when we were 16, we were going to get married :) Now we are approaching our 11th wedding anniversary. We have grown together and shaped each other into our adult selves. And I can't imagine it any other way.

  36. I don't understand why anyone thinks his opinions hold any significance.

    1. He is entitled to them.
    2. They are outdated, as soon he will be.
    3. He is of no one of any real importance.

*Use this "controversy" to educate your own kids, and move on, America.

  37. He was referring to picking the wife young and the man also being young. That way they know they want each other for themselves. I am really not sure about the "cleaning your duck" as that can be taken so many ways. As Kay was 16 and he was 17 when they got married and they are about to celebrate their 50th anniversary I think they are doing pretty good. They were dirt poor when they married and are now multi millionaires. They were rich long before A&E came calling and A&E knew exactly who and what Phil Robertson was as he has never hid his beliefs or how devout of a Christian he is.
I don't agree with everything that comes out of his mouth by a long shot but I have some friends that go to church with him and his family and they adore them all.

  39. Way to take his comments out of context, Enty.

He said to marry 'em young when YOU (meaning the guy) are young.

Funny how none of this came to light before this GQ uproar. He told his grandsons the same thing on a couple of the shows. Those eps are going on two years ago. Now it's news? Sheesh. Move along!

  40. OK, fuck this.

I know plenty of people in their 60's and 70's who know damn well that things were definitely NOT better for Black people under Jim Crow. He never heard any complaints and they were singing in the fields - what kind of dumb as dirt and just plain evil thing is that to say, let alone believe? Religion my ass. Preacher my ass. There's a special place in Hell waiting for this rabid swamp rat.

Seniors aren't racist creeps or homophobic assholes and they don't advocate marriage for 15 year old girls. I don't know why people go around thinking his age is some kind of excuse for this crap. If anything, he's old enough to know better.

Defending his "free speech" is a big fat crock. He has a right to his opinion and WE have a right to ours that he's a repulsive fucking moron who doesn't belong on OUR airwaves.

We the people lease those airwaves (for practically nothing) to responsible broadcasters. In doing so, we basically give them a license to print money. They are on television at our pleasure, not by any right. We have no ethical or constitutional obligation to support this vile man and his hateful views.

He can get the hell off of our televisions and start a website with his kiddie fucking, gay bashing Klan buddies.

  41. +1, ninotchka. This guy's a complete idiot, but even more reprehensible are those who trip all over themselves to defend him. He's not just stating his opinion, he's spewing hate and garbage and other assorted stupidity. Just sit down and STFU already.

  42. He should know - he started going out with Kay when she was 14 and married her when she was 16. He used to beat the shit out of her, she left him, took the kids and went home to her family and then he quit drinking. Don't even get me started on how great things were for black folks in the south where nothing bad happened.

  43. Let's see how many petitions there are to keep Phil's right to marry 15 year olds, sign up for that one right wing America! This family gets more pathetic every time he opens his mouth. A&E should cut them loose while they still can. Obviously Phil has been emboldened rather than shamed which he should be.
    Duck Dynasty are complete fakes.

  44. I think if you marry a 15 y/o you should be able to use corporal punishment, until he or she is 18.

  45. @Lisa "As Kay was 16 and he was 17 when they got married"--nope, she was 16 and he was 20. He started dating her when she was 14.

@The: I'm for teaching young men and women responsible sexual behavior (and self-respect) to AVOID unwanted pregnancy abortions. Marriage is for life. You don't even know who you really are at 16. Most teen girls are impressionable, obedient, ripe for grooming, but I guess that's what he's really trying to say. Marry them before they get all uppity.

  46. "AVOID unwanted pregnancy and abortions" - silly me, left out a word.
