Phil Robertson Isn't Going To Miss Any Duck Dynasty Episodes - Gets Raise

A&E might have acted like they were being tough when they handed down a suspension to Phil Robertson for his homophobic remarks but in reality nothing is going to happen to him at all and his raise with the network kicks in soon too. The new season of the show premieres next month. A&E doesn't want to change anything so he will appear in all the new episodes airing next month.

You and I realize they filmed these episodes months ago. Lots of people who watch the show probably think they were filmed the day before they air. They will call the network and ask how come Phil is on the show if he is suspended and then the network will explain that the shows are filmed months in advance and they didn't want to ruin the story line of the season by pulling his episodes. Those same people will then ask about story lines and complain that they thought the show was real. The other crazy thing is that A&E is already committed to a fifth season of the show and in the contracts everyone gets a raise and Phil is right there with them in getting a raise.

This suspension thing might have been good press but it doesn't seem to have actually done anything except generate more publicity for the already top rated show and ensure they get record ratings when the new season debuts.

  1. I swear we are getting too PC. Allowing people to speak unfiltered allows us to see clearly who they are and gives us the capability to judge them ourselves. Additionally, supply is going to answer demand whether you agree with it or not.

  3. Story line?

    Have you SEEN that show?

Please with the story line nonsense.

Pattie, I think you're right. I bet they sell a crapload of their Wallyworld stuff this Christmas. Too bad he didn't have the time to put out a crucified Phil necklace or something.

    Story line..hahahaha

  5. Anyone who thinks a large corporation would choose morality over money needs a hard slap with a giant dick called reality.

I'm getting tired of all this hoopla with Phil, they make it very clear what their religious and political views are so let's stop pretending like it is this huge, mind blowing revelation that no one could have ever considered. Everyone has an opinion on everything and it is pretty much a guarantee that you will not agree with one or more of those opinions. Accept that he said something stupid (how he worded it and compared it to bestiality, his opinion isn't "stupid"), stop watching the show, and move on.

I tuned in last night just to check it out and that show is uncomfortably scripted. It was like being forced to watch a skit your redneck cousins put together and thought was absolutely hilarious.

  6. I first saw the show while channel-surfing, and really liked it. (I've only watched it when I've come across it accidentally).

It's true that the upcoming season was already filmed, so I'm not exactly sure how they were planning to "suspend" Phil, but whatever.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

  8. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. While I'm not crazy about his colorful "wording" I understand he has his thoughts just like anyone else. Why in the world is everyone so up in arms?? You seriously think that a man who is outspoken about his faith is going to mince words when asked about that topic? I mean really. What did everyone expect?? Not to mention, a lot of that interview (when first publicized) was cut out. The media took the parts that would cause the most controversy and ran with it, never bothering to publish it in it's entirety.

  11. This has been a win/win for A&E and DD.

  12. While everyone watches this a new defense budget awaits thr president's signature. This budget makes all of us suspects and allows all citizens to be arrested and held forever without trial or counsel. Of course something big is happening when something like DD is all over the news.

  13. It was done for appeasement. It had nothing to do with free speech or the First Amendment. Just appeasement. Which is a load of bull.

  14. i find it hilarious that all of you are saying "everyone's entitled to their own opinion" but when paula deen's deposition was released the same people defending this homophobe wanted her head on a silver platter. homophobia is right up there with racism. so fuck all of you.

    1. This. If Phil had said something racist, that would have been the end of him.

    2. Actually, he did. He mentions blacks as being singing and happy during Jim Crow and used an epitaph to refer to Asians. I guess that was swept under the rug.

    3. Being entitled to your opinion diesnt mean you agree or condone same. But i still say, these people revealed who they are, let viewers decide if they want to keep watching. Fir example, woody allen-i just cant look at any of his movies without remembering the weird stuff he said, so I dont.

  15. I think Pattie's right. It didn't start as a PR stunt. In this situation, Phil is just another egotistical actor thinking the world really cares about his point of view. So he shot off his mouth, and the network realized they had to react in some way. But they didn't want to actually kill the cash cow. Hence their throwing gasoline on the fire by announcing a suspension, thus giving all the mouth-breathing fans (who think 'reality' shows are real) the chance to make BFD. And Phil the loudmouth gets to fulfill the fundie fantasy of being a martyr to his faith. Win all around.

  16. Erika---dont forget he said black people were happier in the slave days!!!!! I have NO IDEA why everyone is skipping that part of his interview. As a gay man yeah the homophobic shit annoys me but to speak on behalf of another race about slavery boggles my mind. I hope he gets in a hunting accident Dick Cheney style---that outta shut him up for a while.

  17. As a black person I was not offended by his remarks about black people. Here's the thing: I actually ready the GQ article. What he actually said and what people say he said = 2 different things.

He spoke about his ideas, opinion and experience. That's it. He wasn't making any global proclamations about anything. He said something like "the black people I knew..."

I disagree with his stance on the bible and a bunch of other stuff, but honestly this entire thing is boring and much ado about very little!

  18. +1. Who actually took the time to read the damn article? It's online. I read it the day this non-scandal broke.

  19. Just read the article myself. Here is the link for anyone who cares to read the whole thing.

  20. This to me now is so overshadowed by the fact there are hundreds of same sex marriages happening in UTAH right now and those Mormons can't do a thing about it. GO CIVIL RIGHTS!!!

  21. He said a LOT of things in that interview that are idiotic, offensive and downright wrong. He doesn't get a pass from me, and neither does anyone who would defend him. "Just stating his opinion" indeed. He believes what he's saying, and so do other people, and every one of them ought to be ashamed.

  23. If he wants to be a public bigot, he's entirely free to do so and he exercised that freedom.

The amusing part of this is the moron contingent, running around acting as if this hick's "free speech" had been interfered with - it wasn't. The First amendment gives him the right to say any fucked up thing he wants to say, free from government interference. It gives everyone else an equal right to say how fucked up we think his speech is, also free from government interference. Presto - free speech lives on, unmolested.

That being said, I have no respect for anyone who defends this racist, homophobic, ignorant old dried up piece of shit. Not all opinions are equal and he has proven that his are nothing but garbage.
