The first time Nigella Lawson opened her mouth yesterday on the stand in court to talk about coke use she said she had only used coke twice. By the end of the day she admitted it was more like seven and that she smoked pot frequently the last year of her marriage to her ex-husband Charles Saatchi. Nigella says that when her first husband was dying of cancer she used coke five or six times. Because? I don't think it is a recognized treatment for cancer patients. If she admits to five or six times it was probably about twenty. Plus, each of those times was probably not just one line. Fine, that is in the past. Coming towards the present she says she has only used coke once during the past few years and it was in 2010. A friend gave her some in 2010 and it "spooked" her so she didn't use it again. She did say that she has been smoking pot a lot and started during the final years of her marriage. Her definition of how often she smokes pot is "the odd joint." To me that means she is probably a five day a week smoker. You don't want to say that though. The odd joint can be any definition you want it to be.
From what she describes though it doesn't sound like her drug use was enough to fit into the tale that her former assistants have concocted that Nigella bought their silence on her drug use with her ex-husband's money they are accused of taking.
If her ex-husband choked her in public, god only knows what went on behind closed doors, so I don't blame her for smoking pot or doing coke. So on one side she has an abusive POS ex, and on the other 2 people accused of theft, so how did she all of a sudden become the villain in this soap?
ReplyDeleteShe admitted to be an occasional drug user.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure her numbers are way off.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she's out of the marriage.
I feel like she's on trial and not the assistants.
My son loves reading her Christmas cookbook with me and pointing out all of the cookies I must bake.
I'm sure she'll brush all of this off and muster on.
Am I the only person who doesn't touch drugs? LOL. I'm such a naive nelly.
She's been thought a lot, lost a husband to cancer marries and ass …I be stoned also
ReplyDeleteI could see her as a pot head, but not a coke fiend.
ReplyDeleteHer husband was dying and she can't use something like coke to forget her sorrow or cheer up? Can't she smoke some pot to forget her abusive husband for some time? I'm team Nigella all the way. Not only because she is hot, but because I (like most commenters) heve been/am a sometimes coke/pot user and not a male version of LiLo/hollyweird-random-actor/singer.
ReplyDeleteSaatchi is a mean vindictive bastard hell bent on destroying her.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, did she piss in your cornflakes or something? She is NOT the one on trail here. Her misdemeanours are hers alone.
ReplyDeleteLilo said she only did coke a couple times too. Cant trust an addict.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you're extrapolating from her 'under oarh' comments. Isn't that known as conjecture in law circles? Great lawyer skills here (!)
ReplyDelete*oath
DeleteNo Susan, you're not the only one. People can't connect the dots. I WILL stay away from doctors. Another acquaintance is having a lung ripped out from smoking and inhaling drugs. Dumbass. No pity from me. And what stupid lawyer wouldn't tell her NOT to quantify?!?!?! She needs a lawyer that's on her side. I would have gone Gonzalez on some of that.
ReplyDeleteCount, do you really think she's an addict?
ReplyDeleteYou see, that's my dilemma in all of this: Now, I can't help but wonder if she is just a recreational drug user as she claims or if she is an addict in denial. When I read the news reports, some of her testimony reeks of bullshit. Sorry, Nigella!
Will the assistants testify? Or the jackass Saatchi?
I never liked him because throughout the marriage he has gone on the record as saying he doesn't touch Nigella's food. The fuck?!?! If my husband said that shit, his ass would be out on the street. I couldn't imagine your husband not supporting your career!
my friends sister used to work for Saatchi and she says that he's an asshole. that's all I need to know.
ReplyDeleteSusan, my thought is she did some coke, but is a habitual pot user. Not that it is any of my business! It's too bad this has become the focus of the trial.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know if she has a pot cookie recipe. I would want it!
This seems unfair to Nigella. The husband is obviously a jerk, but she is the one explaining herself. I'm not a fan of hers though. She gets a little too orgasmic over the risotto. I'm a major foodie but I stopped watching Food Network over Nigella, Sandra Lee, and Giada's cleavage. Give me Alton Brown and Emeril any day. BAM!
ReplyDelete@Susan: Don't tell anyone this, but I'm just taking a contrary view out of boredom. I don't actually think he choked her, but I have no clue if she's an addicted mess or if he is the devil incarnate.
ReplyDeleteHer scorn ex-hubby wanted to humiliate her for leaving him. Backfired on the old drunk bastard, didn't it.
ReplyDeleteThis whole story irritates me in so so so many levels!! First off, those embezzling bitches are liars and thieves and shld go to jail. I dont believe anything they say. Second, the husband is a piece of shit vindictive luar so i dont believe anything he says either. Thirdly, i understand these womens idiotic defense is they cld spend as long as they didntvtell she used drugs, but nigella is NOT on trail here and when and where she used coke or grass is no one's motherf*cking business!!!!!!!!! And isnt their keeping quiet so they cld spend money a form of blackmail???!!! I tood i found it irritating!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever partied with Europens? I have lived in London for 6 months while in my 20's. I defy you to find someone there who hasn't done drugs. This isn't surprising, and if they act surprised--they're chucking stones from a glass house. Who gives a shit if she smokes some weed or does some blow at a party? Doesn't change the fact te PA's stole the money!
ReplyDelete@Liddy: It would only be blackmail if they demanded it, not if she offered it.
ReplyDeleteJust to give you the actual facts. Nigella Lawson stated on the stand yesterday that she'd used cocaine two times in her life. The first being in 1999 with her first husband, John Diamond (who'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer). At that time she said she'd used cocaine on six occasions. The second time was in July 2010 when she stated she'd taken the drug just once. Why don't you read the facts and understand the wording of her statement before you post an ill-informed comment that she'd changed her story on the stand. She didn't, she was very clear, it was two times in her life, on seven occasions. I doubt you're a lawyer (as you claim to be) because if you were you wouldn't make such a clumsy and basic mistake. The truth is you're probably just another lonely nerd/c*nt, stuck in their bedroom, using the anonymity of the internet to pretend to be something you're not .........
ReplyDeleteJeez Enty, why the hate for a woman who was choked in public? TeamNigella all the way. You're in an abusive relationship, you get to smoke in my book.
ReplyDeleteI have friends who work in the entertainment industry in London (production, management, talent, etc). There are a lot of occasional drug users in that industry, coke and pot, and very few hard core addicts. They shun the people who can't handle the party and become sloppy uncouth addicts. Everyone is welcome to unwind at the end of the work day, or at the wrap party, or after the last show, but man, if you become a day to day problem who can't keep your shit together, good bye.
ReplyDeleteNigella probably fits that description, occasional social user, possibly a little bit more so in the last year to deal with that asshole she married. Never getting in the way of her work.
She said she and her dead husband did coke as a form of escapism, not as treatment for cancer. She also indicated that she did coke twice on her life - once during her husband's illness, when they did it on several occasions, and one time more recently. She never said it only happened on two individual occasions.
ReplyDeleteDude, why are you so anti-Nigella? The tone of this item is extremely skeptical and dismissive. Personally, if I were married to an abusive asshat like Saatchi you wouldn't be able to stop me smoking and popping pills.
ReplyDeleteLawson's drug use sounds about par for the course for most celebrities. If she were a true cokehead she would have been a lot thinner in the last 10 or 12 years (she's shed about 40 pounds only in the last 1-2 years). This whole "NIGELLA USES DRUGS OMG!" crap in all the UK tabloids (and some US ones) sounds like a Saatchi-mandated attempt at character assassination. Sorry; it hasn't worked. He still comes out as the abusive, vindictive megalomaniac.
More interested in all the work she's had done on her face tbh.
