Nigella Lawson is being accused of lying on the stand during her testimony at the trial of her two former assistants. Although Nigella couldn't remember the exact number of times she used cocaine she estimated it was six or seven. On the stand today, one of those assistants testified that cocaine was everywhere in the house and she was always discovering new places that Nigella would hide it. Apparently it was never out of reach of wherever Nigella would be. The assistant also said though she never actually saw Nigella using coke but did see her smoke pot numerous times and would do it in front of her kids. I think Nigella used coke all the time and smoked pot all the time. I think any time you admit to using it, you probably used it a bunch. I think if you only used it once or twice in your life you would probably say that you never tried it.
She may be a hot mess but good lord is the that woman beautiful.

ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen pics of her family? Wow! Her sister, father, and mother are extremely obese. I was really shocked she is so small in comparison to them, which leads me to believe she is genetically inclined to be quite large. Maybe the coke helped her maintain her weight?

DeleteHer mother died many years ago, nigella's weight comes from her father's side of the family, her mother was very thin and faulted nigella for having weight problems since she was a child. Nigella suffered eating disorders because if her mother shaming her constantly, they had a very strained relationship. Look up the interview somewhere in the Daily Times of London.

When the Crown Prosecution Service brings perjury charges against Ms. Lawson, then I'll be interested. Right now, it's just a thief flailing trying to wriggle out of trouble.

I know how it is ladies. When your hero's warts are shown in the light of day, it can cause major internal conflicts. I am still troubled by Andy Pettitte admitting to using PEDs. His honesty about it, his claim it was to heal quicker so he could help his team in a pennant race, and his testifying against Roger "scumbag" Clemens are only a small amount of salve for the wound.

Nigella DOES struggle with her weight. About a year ago she was rather chunky. Doesn't anyone remember the blind about Kelly Ripa making fun of her?

I don't care if she takes drugs, her business, however, it would be very bad if she did it in front of her kids.
People also forget that she lost a sister and husband to cancer, and her mother wasn't very nice to her, so she has issues. I think many of us have been there regarding having the need to numb the pain by the use of drugs. Hopefully if anything, this will get her the help she needs.

Nigella's a hot mess? What? She only fronts a multi-million empire while writing best-selling cookbooks and appearing on television programs. I don't consider that a hot mess. I consider it a kick-ass successful business woman.
ReplyDeleteI've been a fan of Nigella's for a good 12 years, when she was virtually unknown in the U.S. Her weight has definitely gone up and down. She was rather svelte in Season 1 of The Taste (which, despite her presence and that of Anthony Bourdain, was totally lackluster, IMHO). Anyway, I'm certainly not taking the word of an assistant accused of stealing a hefty chunk of change from Nigella. Doesn't even stand up to logic to take that testimony at face value. Likewise, I don't 100 percent believe Nigella's testimony either about the number of times she did cocaine. But Nigella is not the one on trial.
Doing drugs with or in front of your children just seems like such a bad idea. Yes, I have a glass of wine in front of my child, but am I wasted? Hell, to the no.
This story is so juicy. Nigella was rather reclusive during her career, so this is just fascinating to see play out. I hope it all works out.

ReplyDeleteI think people forget how big she was a couple years ago (burkini, anyone?). She has definitely lost a lot of weight since then (it was a big story for awhile how thin/fit she was becoming - i could buy that cocaine was a big part of that).
I definitely believe she probably used more than 6 or 7 times, but to be a "fiend," i'd really picture her to be much far thinner than she is.
P.S. - my parents smoked pot in front of me all my life, every single day, which didn't faze me. However, when they had parties/friends over, it was very upsetting to find my mom's small, decorative mirror with traces of white powder the morning after. it was *horrifying* the one time we were at a party with them and they used right in front of us (i was maybe 7-9 years old). it shook my comfort/safety level to the core.
Sorry cassie. I just have to smile when i think if my parents, they drank socially, and the big thing my mother wld do is smoke a cigarette, lol. And really badly too, really awkward with cig, blowing the smoke out clumsily- it was really funny, lol

ReplyDeleteThere are always outliers. the majority of "coke fiends" tend to be on the average/thin side. Nigella is by no means thin, and kind of slightly above average (very big from her hips down).

Losing 55 lbs is fairly major for anyone who doesn't weigh more than 300 lbs. Not trying to be argumentative, just saying.

There wouldn't even BE a trial of Saatchi hadn't insisted on it. The amount this woman and her partner stole was nothing more than a drop in the bucket compared to the gazillions Saatchi has.
ReplyDeleteSaatchi insisted on prosecuting these hags (over something that could have been resolved through credit card insurance) because he saw it as an opportunity to smear and humiliate the ex-wife who 1) got away from him, 2) outed him as an abusive narcissist, and 3) continues to be sympathetic and popular despite all his efforts to destroy her.
But my question is: why are you trying to help him do it?
Up until about 2 years ago, Lawson WAS quite large. So if she's been a habitual coke user, she'd have be a lot thinner for a much longer time (rather like ex-husband Saatchi's new girlfriend Trinny from "What Not to Wear," who WAS a coke addict and still weighs about 90 pounds).
ReplyDeleteNigella has only been "thin-ish" (she still wears a size 12) for about a year or two. Before that I think she wore a size 18 or 20.
Yeah, these are the people who never mentioned drugs until a couple of months ago to any attorney, but it was something her abusive ex husband began as a smear to ruin her because she wouldn't defend his abusive behavior and he's angry she left him. Sorry when you just bring up something out of thin air, and remember they weren't even going to be charged but were going to work off the debt - that was negotiated and the accounting firm had worked out the details. After the marriage broke up the two thieves both refused to work for Saatchi if Nigella was no longer there to protect them from his abusive verbal attacks. Please these women are desperate trying to get out of years of prison time and have jumped on the smear Nigella wagon. I think many people especially wealthy and living in major cities had access. When I was working on the west side of LA at a nice restaurant during college I used to get tipped in coke from multiple regular customers. It was everywhere for over a decade. She was never arrested and has a successful career, not a drug problem, that's obvious. This is just abusing an already abused woman.
