Kristen Johnston Has Lupus Myelitis - Taking Break From Show

In two weeks Leah Remini was going to show up on the show The Exes with no Kristen Johnstonin sight. This is going to continue for several weeks and this week Kristen explained why. She says that since September she has been really sick. So sick that she can't climb stairs and needs a neck brace to keep her head from falling. The only thing she has been able to do is lie down. "Lying down I'm fine, which is great for writing or killing time on social media, but it's kind of disastrous when you're in a sitcom that requires tons of physical comedy."

That is where Leah comes in and will be taking over for Kristen until Kristen can film again. Kristen says she will be fine and that this form of Lupus took over 17 doctors to diagnose before the Mayo Clinic was finally able to determine the specific auto immune disorder she is facing.

I hope Kristen gets over whatever this is, she's been through a lot and triumphed in the past. She's strong

  4. Terrible she's dealing with it but so glad she's at least got a diagnosis (assuming it is correct now). Lupus is a bitch like that. Here's hoping her treatment goes well and she can get back to what she loves.

  11. Ah, it's one of those crazy illnesses like MS that are hard to identify. Hopefully she will go into remission quickly.

  13. Always loved her. Really hope she gets well soon. I myself, have an auto immune illness. They are terribly hard to diagnosis. I was mistreated for three different things before they realized I actually had Crohns.
    Stay strong K !!!!

    1. I have Crohns too. It took them four years of treating me for other things until anyone realized what was going on. Awful disease. Good luck in your health!

      TY and same to you.

At one point they thought I had cancer, so they made me get a bone marrow biopsy. Those are a b*tch !!!!
Only got properly diagonoised when I colasped at work, and was admitted to the hospital for a battery of tests.

  15. Ugh, as a fellow autoimmune sufferer, I wish her well. And good health. I wonder if Leah bumps into Kirstie doing her show? Do they have lookouts? Are the studios near each other? Now this could be juicy!!!!!

  17. If she thinks it's Lupus, we need to get House in here to diagnose what it really is!

  19. I love KJ hope she gets better and soon.

I read another article and it says she has this rare form of lupus

" Lupus Myelitis is a rare disorder of the nervous system linked to inflammation of the spinal cord, affecting about 1% of patients with lupus, according to the Lupus Foundation of America."

    Gotta Love KJ
"Johnston says it took four months, 17 doctors and "two-fun filled weeks in November partying at the Mayo Clinic" before doctors finally figured out the cause of her ailments.

Now, she adds, "I'm not on my death bead ... far from it. I'm gonna be fine." "

  20. I've got three autoimmune diseases. A comfort to see so many here coping too.

I admire her for coming out and bringing attention to autoimmune disease.

Sad fact, when you have one autoimmune disease, you usually end up getting diagnosed with another.

My two cents to the other members of the club, make sure your vitamin D levels are okay. (Try to stay at the high level of normal and a lot of myalgias/fatigue will disappear--helped me so much.)

  21. As another person that suffers from several auto immune diseases my thoughts are with her as well as the ones here.

  22. She is a good shit- I hope she beats it.

  23. I've found daily vitamin B complex helps quite a bit as well. With my Crohns, I tend to be vitamin deficient bc my body can't get nutrition from the food I eat.
Also it really does seem if you have one autoimmune disease than you probably have a 2nd and/or 3rd. It also seems to be somewhat hereditary. My mom had Graves Disease, psoriasis and rummatoid arthritis. Luckily so far I "ONLY" have Crohns but I worry about the 2nd/3rd illness appearing.

  24. Love her, she is so funny! So glad to hear she finally got diagnosed. Don't have an auto-immune disease but as someone who went from gastro to gastro for 5 YEARS before finally being diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, it's very frustrating. Hopefully, she's on the road to recovery!

  25. Glad she is hanging in there. I have Lyme Disease, which is in many ways akin to an autoimmune disorder, so I feel for her (and all of you).
