Blind Items Revealed
August 29, 2008
#1 - So what do you do if you are a C list actor from film and television with B+ name list recognition. You have been through several marriages, one of them extremely high profile, and have suffered through battles with drugs and alcohol and are apparently losing them again. Why, you go on sets and badger co-stars, former co-stars and others to buy Amway or whatever the hell they are calling themselves now. Our actor specializes in victimizing people with bit parts who don't want to upset him and possibly get fired so invariably buy things.
Tom Arnold
So he's basically an aggressive Mary Kay lady? LOL!
ReplyDeleteYeah, but to be able to say that you've got Tom Arnold in your upline... golden.
ReplyDeleteI got involved with Amway back in the 90's as was too nice to say no to the friend selling it. Worst six months of my life. Was leaving home town to work in another city and forbade family from passing onmy details as they are a tenacious lot, thank god mobiles weren't as popular then.
ReplyDeleteI have the worst Amway-baiter face ever. Apparently I look as though I can't WAIT to hear all about it, I've been to far too many presentations because I hate to say no to nice or crazy people. Charlie, the fact that you are using the lingo is making you (1) eye you suspiciously.
ReplyDeleteAmway? Explanation for your non US friends please.
ReplyDelete@violet, I experienced in e UK. There is huge glitzy store in London that scared me a little silly when I saw it last month. It's pyramid selling of house cleaning products as far as I can remember. And the word 'up line' sent a chill down my spine, Charlie :-(
ReplyDeleteAnd @talkstoomuch, I have the same face apparently.
Roseanne - Never forget
ReplyDeleteI've heard some different things about Tom Arnold recently. Apparently he actually pays for and coaches people who are looking to get clean and sober.
ReplyDelete@dee Ha, I did the same thing in the early 90s. They are tenacious.
ReplyDeleteIs Amway the Co$ of direct selling?
ReplyDelete@TTM & Dee: My father-in-law used to be involved in every MLM (multi level marketing) program imaginable. I learned early on that there were NO innocent questions. I heard more about up and down lines than a sane person should ever be forced to endure.
ReplyDeleteI recognise almost all of the words Enty. Just not necessarily in that order.
ReplyDeletePlease get a secretary, or at least some form of education.
Charlie, tell your FIL to stop emailing me about my tiny penis and all the free local sluts! If only there were some totally legit cialis or viagra available online for a deal! Spam, where old MLMers go to retire
ReplyDeleteAh Tommy how things have changed for you since you came into where I worked in Van Nuys so I could type up your resume. You were pleasant but totally fidgety. I was so naive I couldn't figure out why.
ReplyDelete... this was pre-Roseanne...
DeleteDamn, not that he's ever been popular but thats a pretty shaming fall from grace.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought Tom was a funny guy, and a great side kick in movies. I'm sorry to hear this.
ReplyDeleteHey, he has a baby to support now.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I believe this blind. According to IMDB, Tom Arnold had 11 show/movie roles released in 2008 (and doesn't even list any stand-up gigs he may have had that year), including the creepy-good "Alex" in Gardens of Midnight. It also lists 8 items labeled "Filming" or "Post-production".
ReplyDelete@Leisa, I've heard that about him as well. He's working steadily, helping others with addiction problems, and seems to finally have a handle on his own. Good for him!
Well this blind is six years old...
DeleteI don't believe this blind either. It's a dumb blind anyway.
ReplyDeleteIf ever I get cornered by MLMers, I just pull the "no English" bit. (I look very Nordic.)
ReplyDeleteAlthough a Mary Kay lady got past my defenses recently... in the bathroom of a McDonald's! Go away, I'm trying to dry my hands under this extremely loud dryer!
Tom and his cute new baby are doing well.
ReplyDeleteMy hair cutter/stylist is always trying to sell me some crap with her extremely expensive hair care products. I think she sells Amwya, Mary Kay, Tupperware, and Avon. If she weren't so cheap and so good, i would go some place else.
ReplyDeleteHe is extremely Bipolar. I saw him a couple of times during manic episodes and it is not funny or pleasant at all. I think people just feel sorry for him and try to help him out.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of your site here and I can promise you this story is false. I've never sold Amway or anything like it. I've never sold anything to other actors. I've never even seen anyone else sell anything on a set. I take that back. I have purchased many many boxes of Girl Scout cookies from actors and crew with kids. But sadly your story is a lie. The part about the marriages and struggling in my past with drugs and alcohol (1989). Is true of course. Just the Amway is bullshit. Not the worst lie I've ever read about myself but maybe the silliest. If this is a lucrative business I might just check into it now so thank you! Tom Arnold
