Blind Items Revealed

April 22, 2011

#3 - What former A+ lister and now still a B list movie actor made his children sign confidentiality agreements so they would not reveal anything about his life, their life, or anything they know. That is a very trusting father.

  1. Let me guess he blackmailed them that they'd never get anything out of his will so they better sign?
    What a douche!

  2. Sounds like such a loving, caring, and trusting father! Ugh what a jackass!

  3. I wish I knew divorce law to figure this out. His divorce was finalized 7 months after this blind, when it was revealed that he gave up nearly 400 million USD to his ex-wife as his divorce settlement.

Does that mean that as part of his settlement 5 of his 6 kids who were adults at the time of this blind were also made to sign agreements? If so, then I can see why he would protect himself. However, if she was going to get half anyways, I can't see why his kids would need to care if he has a say in any money going to them, if they are getting it directly from her.

I can't stand the guy but I would think that he had a horde of lawyers directing him to do this, if he didn't already think of it himself.

  5. This wouldn't have had anything to do with the divorce settlement unless there was an agreement within the settlement that Mel had to provide for his kids in a trust. He then could have, as part of that agreement, made it contingent on them signing confidentiality agreements. Outside of the kids being minors and/or disabled this is unlikely (a minor signing wouldn't have the force of law anyway).

I suspect that they were threatened with being disinherited if they didn't sign. If that is the case, I hope they were smart enough to have a clause inserted which voided the agreement if they were disinherited anyway.

  6. Were all of his kids over 18 at the time of their divorce? Minors can't legally sign contracts, so if any of them were younger than that, the agreement's null and void.

  7. I agree with epiphany. If these kids were minors I don't think that these confidentiality agreements hold.

  8. If you force you kids to sign an agreement like that, then you know you have been a really shitty father and must have done a lot of bad things to them. Poor kids.

  9. Those lucky bastards should thank Mel everyday. They probably had no problem signing any agreement keeping them in the lap of luxury. The blind is probably half bullshit anyway as some have pointed out- minors cannot sign contracts. There is probably some phrase in a family trust document that gets signed that mentions confidentiality and that is where this blind comes from.

  10. Most of his kids would have been adults at the time. I'm thinking that this was about more than money though. If he has really dark secrets, then he has shady people who could enforce the silence. I'm sure that money was part of the deal, and it's possible that some of the kids haven't been saints either. If they keep their mouths shut, their problems will go away, if ya know what I mean.

  11. Guess he didnt want any "Mel Dearest" books coming forward, lol. Im sure he used the money as leverage. You cant believe hiw common this is, even when very little money us involved. I worked fir a nan who wanted to be in mysical theatre, and he was great at it. But his parents said we will cut you off if you do not go to meducal school and become a doctor. So he did. He was a terrific doctor but very bitter about not being able to pursue show business.

    (($hrug))

Don't have a problem with this. Its bad forum to go shooting your mouth off about your dad. Family issues should stay under the family roof.

  14. OK, not to defend Mel, but he came to fame in the mid-80's, long before the internet where he could do what he wanted and no one would know. I can see him making his kids (and there are like 10 of them by his first wife) sign confidentiality agreements to be included in his will.

    I can't say that I blame him.

  16. Couldn't disagree more, fancy. Dysfunction should always be exposed. Secrets thrive in the dark.

  17. Meh. Everyone knows he's a prick. If the kids can't expose all his years of shitty parenting now, they'll do it later - and rightly so.

Fuck him. He's a violent, controlling, bigoted drunk. He's earned every bad thing that happened to him and then some.

  18. They could have said, "Nope, keep your money, I don't want to sign it or take your cash." But...willing to bet they signed and took the $$$$$. Life's a bitch, they've lived mighty well off of being his kids.

  19. I call bullshit....that's a big ass family and he's got a lot of nieces and nephews that he didn't make do that so why would he make his kids?
