2014 Oscar Predictions: Best Director
ReplyDeleteFrom Indiwire...
Here's our take on the best director category. It looks like the race could feature an impressive mix of renowned filmmakers, including previous winners Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen and Joel & Ethan Coen alongside a slew of folks who have never won: David O. Russell, Alfonso Cuarón, Paul Greengrass and Steve McQueen. Based on what's already screened, it would take a lot of as-yet-unseen competition to knock Cuarón and McQueen out of serious contention (and it's hard to imagine someone other than them winning, but then again.. it's still October).
Best director predictions below. Check out all predictions in all the categories here.
Locks:
1. Alfonso Cuarón, Gravity
2. Steve McQueen, 12 Years a Slave
Less Certain, But Looking Pretty Good as Well:
3. Paul Greengrass, Captain Phillips
4. Martin Scorsese, The Wolf of Wall Street
5. Alexander Payne, Nebraska
Could Definitely Move Up:
6. Spike Jonze, Her
7. Joel & Ethan Coen, Inside Llewyn Davis
8. David O. Russell, American Hustle
9. John Lee Hancock, Saving Mr. Banks
10. Woody Allen, Blue Jasmine
Long Shots:
11. Lee Daniels, Lee Daniels' The Butler
12. John Wells, August: Osage County
13. JC Chandor, All Is Lost
14. Ryan Coogler, Fruitvale Station
15. Peter Berg, Lone Survivor
Dang! That's a lot. I've never followed the Oscars before, is it like this every year?
ReplyDeleteDavid O'Russell director for American Hustle?
ReplyDeleteOUT AND PROUD GAY Man
DeleteAmy Adams stars and was born in Italy so could she be the actress?
ReplyDeleteShes B +\almost A
Delete12 Years a Slave is the one to beat for Best Picture. But I'm not sure who the actress would be. I can't picture Lupita saying this about McQueen.
ReplyDeleteI agree, David O'Russell, just because when American Hustle was hailed a lot as top contender last week.
ReplyDeleteHes a out and proud.homosexual
ReplyDeleteGemma Arterton speaking of Steve McQueen
ReplyDeleteGreat guess @gypsy
DeleteThank you Reno...
DeleteGee I'm shocked an actress is actually considering f**king a director. Sienna Miller was papped at a party last week Ill go with her since she fits the morals part.

ReplyDeleteIf this girl is related to one of Scorsese's directing idols, he'll not only sleep with her - he'll marry her.
ReplyDelete@Gypsygirl, I don't know what your sources are but David O. Russell is not "out and proud". He can however, do the diva head to head with Lily Tomlin (language NSFW).
ReplyDeleteI've seen that Lily Tomlin before, it's hysterical!
ReplyDeleteHOLY $HIT, I have never seen this video, he is going iiiiiiiinnnn on Lily Tomlin, WOWWWWW
ReplyDeleteDidn't Clooney once say David O is the one person he'd never work with again? Think they got in a fist fight during 3 Kings.
ReplyDeleteI know he and Lily have made up, and I think the same is true with Clooney. Maybe he's mellowed with age.
ReplyDeleteKristen - Yes, they actually did nearly come to blows during the making of Three Kings. I half expected the two of them to go at it again during awards season last year. Surprised it never happened.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That video was insane! @7of11
ReplyDeleteWhen did David O Russell come out? As far as I've read, he and Clooney settled their differences a long time ago, they still really dislike each other though, but I can't remember where I read a quote from DOR calling Clooney a self satisfied prick...
ReplyDeleteI agree D.
That link was awesome. Lily has some big brass ovaries, that's for sure. What a dick. He was yelling at her for being a child while stomping around, throwing things and having a huge tantrum, and she had calmed down by then. I totally understand why Clooney wouldn't take that shit.
ReplyDeleteMy guess for the blind is Spike Jonze. The actress is delusional. Most directors pretty much have their pick of Hollywood actresses.
Director is Russell, only b/c Enty earlier pegged it as Best Pic. frontrunner.
ReplyDeleteIf we're to believe the official stories, he's supposedly cleaned up his act.
@Gypsygirl, my apologies - it was a poor choice of words and I think I sounded rude. I've heard nothing of David O. Russell as being either gay or out and proud (he was married up until 2007, and the only odd sexual rumor out about him was that he fondled his (non-blood-related) transvestite niece's breasts - ok, that's way more than odd...).
ReplyDelete@madlyb, right?!
Clooney pulled no punches talking about Russell in the Playboy interview, though he has said since that he harbors no ill will.
“Filming Three Kings was a dangerous time. I was trying to make things work with David Russell, so I went over and put my arm around him. I said, “David, it’s a big day. But you can’t shove, push or humiliate people who aren’t allowed to defend themselves.’’ He turned on me and said, “Why don’t you just worry about your fucked-up act? You’re being a dick. You want to hit me? You want to hit me? Come on, pussy, hit me.’’ I’m looking at him like he’s out of his mind. Then he started banging me on the head with his head. He goes, “Hit me, you pussy. Hit me.’’ Then he got me by the throat and I went nuts. One of the boys grabbed me by the waist to get me to let go of him. I had him by the throat. I was going to kill him. Kill him. It was truly, without exception, the worst experience of my life.”
It says Best Picture winner, not director. Learn to read. Alfonso Cuarón is pretty goodlooking, unlike McQueen, lol. So Alfonso for the guy, Malin Åkerman for the actress.
ReplyDeleteDavid o russel directed one of my all time faves-"the opposite of sex";( yeeeaars ago)
ReplyDeleteIn so doing press for the film whose theme deals heavily in.homosexuality amongst other things...he stated"as a gayl man living in LA in..blah blah)
Married or not-as we know thatbholds NO weight often for career advancement, taxes etc.
i didnt mean he was the grand marshall at Pride...just unashamedbof his status.
The Opposite of Sex was directed by Don Roos, not David O Russell

ReplyDeleteSteve mcqueen is married
DeleteSteve mcqueen is married
DeleteSteve McQueen has a live in female partner, and David O Russell I'm certain is straight. (Correcting my earlier post, McQueen is not openly gay, that would be Lee Daniels who directed The Butler).
ReplyDeleteIf you go by Random Photos today Enty/s thinks Her or American Hustle will win best pic. Directors are Spike Jonze or DOR. This blind should be about the former, who is cute in a hipsterish way and unmarried, and not DOR who is troll-like and as others have noted, nuttier than a fruitcake.
No clue about the actress.
spike jonze for sure
ReplyDeletespike jonze for sure
ReplyDeleteLOL! I can see you all downed a bottle of wine (or hard liquor for some) while typing your answers.
ReplyDeleteI like that Alfonso and Malin guess. She just left her old man.
