Blind Item #16- Kindness
This Food Network mainstay who is probably the best part about the network donated and raised almost $1M last year to fund a cooking program in his hometown where underprivileged high school students can take classes after school and get a job if they want it or just give them something to do to stay out of trouble.

That's so funny. I've heard nothing but negative things about Alton Brown's off-screen personality. And there was the whole Twitter war earlier this year where he tweeted very arrogant things. @Kelly... so Ina rejecting that make-a-wish kid like 3x in a row didn't make your skin crawl.. Iron Chef Michael Symon and Beau MacMillan -- have reportedly offered to cook with Enzo.

ReplyDeleteThe way Alton Brown drunkenly leered and lunged at Jane Seymour on Iron Chef was so off-putting some years back -- combined with his sexual inuendos with Giada on every reality crap they keep airing -- I just can't with that creepy man.

ReplyDeleteAnd ITA, Basil -- the Head Chef Instructor at my culinary school does a programme where homeless people can learn to cook and get jobs in the field. He's had some really inspiring success stories and he's always telling us that we need to get involved and give back to the community.

ReplyDeleteI've always taken his rather crude comments to/about Giada as a reflection of how much he loathes her skank ass. Since I loathe her skank ass too, it's all good.
I also used to like Alton. My friend met him and said he was such an asshole. She was a big fan of his and was very disappointed.

I thought Alton was all born again Christian type? Huh. Anyway, I love his show and his recipes. I love how he analyzes thing.
ReplyDeleteAlton IS Food Network. Good Eats is to cooking what Mr. Wizards World was to science- everyone can watch it from kids to adults and everyone can get something out of it.
ReplyDeleteI have a few seasons of it on DVD and my nieces like watching it with me. He did an episode on candy and my nieces learned to make his Peanut Butter Fudge Candy where all you use is the microwave to cook with and they make it for every family get together. Since they are just 7 and 4 (5 in 16 days) it makes them feel important and that they are contributing to the family dinner.
Anything that makes kids feel special and teaches them is important to have. I'm thankful Alton did that series if for nothing else than for giving my nieces the ability to do something they can be proud of. The smile on their faces the first time they made it and gave their PaPa some was bigger and brighter than all their Christmas mornings combined.

ReplyDeleteRowdy wins the internet for the day. Great story and absolutely right. Kids aren't born lazy and greedy. Well, actually they are, but they get over that if you let them, and they do enjoy working for things and seeing the smiles they can bring other people.

ReplyDeleteAlton Brown. Also possibly Tyler Florence. Everyone else on the network is a preening douchebag who can't really cook, or used to be a professional chef but has sold out big time.
