Ann Curry Leaving NBC First Week Of January- Might Go To Work For Angelina Jolie
Although Ann Curry's contract with NBC doesn't actually end for a few months, she will be leaving NBC the first week of January when her vacation and sick leave kick in for the year and won't be back. She is counting down the days and apparently has three people in the entire building that are not afraid to be seen talking to her. NBC executives wants her gone and don't ever want to see her again.
But, they might have to. Ann has supposedly lined up a job working for her old buddy Angelina Jolie. Ann would be flown in to film documentaries and interviews with Angelina which would then be sold to networks or distributed to other news outlets around the world. This way Angelina only talks to one person who she trusts and gets her face and her causes and her movies being discussed without having to sit through a million interviews. Plus, I imagine Angelina will let An see Brad Pitt naked every so often. I kid. You know Ann will be trying though.
What kind of dirt does sleazy ass Matt Lauer have on NBC execs that keep him employed and makes everybody hate Ann Curry??
ReplyDeleteWhat aemish said. Id pay money to know that answer. Matt is the one who should not be renewed. Hes a slimebucket..
DeleteWhat took her so long? Got tired of being in the back room somewhere?
ReplyDeleteGood for her, I always liked Ann Curry and stopped watching the Today show after she left. Matt Lauer is a smug pr**k
ReplyDeleteafter what she has been through I hope this new gig works out.
ReplyDelete@Henriette - she is under contract. No way they would let her go early to work for competition
ReplyDelete@Kaye, same here. I like her and hope this works out well for her.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Brad annoyed by her?
ReplyDeleteAlso quit watching the Today show after the Ann Curry debacle
ReplyDeleteGood for Ann-that must have been a miserable place to work. She broke my heart last year during this mess. The day she talked about what happened and broke down on camera.....so sad
While I'm not sure she was the best co-anchor, it was horrible the way they dumped and humiliated her
I'm done with NBC in general though
I never understood the Ann Curry hate at NBC. I loved her on Today. She's an outstanding journalist and seems to be a generally good person. WTF happened?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant on AJ's part to hire her own reporter. I'm surprised Tom Cruise hasn't dome it.
ReplyDeleteI really like the dynamic between Willie Geist, Natalie Morales, and Al Roker. I can't stand Matt Lauer.
ReplyDelete@Faith
ReplyDeleteI guess it is very unusually for talent to let negative stories damage the brand their involved with, so when the rumors around her removal came out, she did nothing to help quell the rumors - so she no longer seen as a team player.
to hire her/his own reporter = official propaganda(and huge big narcissistic ego)
ReplyDeleteRight on, @aemish!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant on Angelina's part, though. Hire a respected, experienced journalist to film your documentaries and work with you on interviews. Matt Lauer will be sucking up to Mariah Carey at 5am while Ann Curry is interviewing UN members. Suck it, Lauer!
So Angie will have her very own propaganda person…cool.
ReplyDeleteThat's news today though, isn't it? It's all biased one way or the other. At least this way she would have the ironclad control over her image that she seems to dig
ReplyDeletePlus someone to tell her "HEY! Put that leg back in the dress!"
ReplyDeleteI dunno about NBC execs hating Ann Curry--she subbed for Brian Williams on the Nightly News the other night. Seems like if they couldn't stand her they wouldn't put her in that premier spot.
ReplyDeleteIt just sucks for her to have worked there that long and then to have to leave with co-workers being so hateful.
ReplyDeleteNot that I've watched the Today show in over ten years.
Not being a team player made everyone hate her? That seems odd, considering there are so many diva/os on TV. However, I was covering a media event and she was there and was an absolute beeotch.
ReplyDeleteI would think this would be a good way for her to work around any non-compete she might have. She probably couldn't go to work for the competition, but this could probably be considered free-lance. Good for her, she won't have to look at Matt Lauer's dickface 5 days a week.
ReplyDeleteOne thing about documentaries and specials, you can edit out glitches. It seems that Ann may have been known for less than stellar extemporaneous speaking, so this would be ideal. That said, I love Ann. I think she is a lady; she is professional; I have seen her when she was quite good. I'm team Ann. I saw something the other day, and I don't remember what it was for, but Jay Leno was talking to a newcomer to Hollywood, and he said, what you need to remember is that Hollywood is just high school with money. I think the same could be said of networks. People are people wherever you go, and it is a base instinct (that should be overcome) to gang up on people. A lot of people just want to be on the safe side. The popular side. And in high stakes programming, if you stick up for someone, you could loose your livelihood. Just my speculation. Team Ann.
ReplyDeleteMatt Lauer is an arrogant horrid ass. He should be put out to pasture immediately. They should send that acolyte Savannah Guthrie with him.
