Emma Stone for light comedian (in the Meg Ryan/less so Julia Roberts mold). Jennifer Lawrence for her offscreen personality (her dramatic acting chops are too great for her to make a career in light comedy). Meg Ryan was much more Ameruica's Sweetheart than Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts always had an abrasive personality to go with her great smile. In half the romcoms she starred in she didn't end up with the guy.
@Bessie it may seem that way when all the production money goes into comic book adaptations. Comic books aren't really great places to find well rounded female characters. But if the material was there & the will to make light comedy films that appeal to both sexes was there, there are some really terrific funny/cute engaging actresses in their 20's right now. Too bad overgrown 12 year old boys who think girls are icky are greenlighting Hollywood films today.
Jennifer Lawrence. Rachel McAdams is Canadian... (That's a joke, guys). Meg Ryan was, definitely. Julia Roberts; I think she was lucky to get cast in some really great movies (Pretty Woman, Notting Hill), but her real life personality leaves something to be desired.
There isn't one. (Reese Witherspoon never ever was America's sweetheart, IMO.) We are due for someone to come out of nowhere, though, and when she does you'll know her when you see her (like surely everyone immediately recognized Audrey Hepburn when she emerged??).
Yes, Rachel McAdams is Canadian but so was Mary Pickford, America's original Sweetheart! You guys take all our best stuff. Then again, you also got Bieber and Pam Anderson, so it's not all bad.
Amy Adams? She plays ditsy well & then turns around & burns a hole in the screen with her dramatic roles. It's hard to argue with her 4 Oscar nominations in 8 years.
now Jennifer Lawrence, I think Meg Ryan…no one ever thought Julia was sweet
ReplyDeleteEmma Stone ,love her.
ReplyDeleteJ Law FTW

ReplyDeleteI hate joke answers with every fibre of my being but I can't resist: Jessica Alba.
ReplyDeleteYes, Meg was for sure. Now it's Emma Stone and JLaw.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Renoblonde.
DeleteI agree, Meg Ryan.
ReplyDeleteJulia Roberts said Jennifer Lawrence was "too cool" to be America's Sweetheart. They're painting it like she was joking around, but the article really does read like she was being her usual catty self.
Everyone seems to be gaga over JenLaw.
ReplyDeletethe overexposed and overrated but talented Jennifer Lawrence
ReplyDeleteMeg Ryan - Julia Roberts - Jennifer Aniston (After Friends and Pitt Breakup, really short reign) - Sandra Bullock - Emma Stone
ReplyDeleteI'd say Sandra Bullock. I would go see anything she's in....then and especially now.

ReplyDeletePaula Deen, sean penn and alec baldwin.

ReplyDeletePresently I would say Michelle Williams or Rachael McAdams.
ReplyDeleteIt's those in American FILMS, does not matter where they might be from.

@Hegg they maybe American films, but they are still Canadian, and many American FILMS are shot in Canada..Including American Network programs.
ReplyDeleteThere aren't any "sweethearts" these days because for the past decade, they've only made movies about comic books. Romantic comedy is dead.
ReplyDelete@Meanie Happy turkey day.
ReplyDeleteWho was that chick in the princess movie? She was in Julie/Julia too.
ReplyDeleteAmy Adams? She plays ditsy well & then turns around & burns a hole in the screen with her dramatic roles. It's hard to argue with her 4 Oscar nominations in 8 years.
ReplyDeleteJulia Roberts was in a movie called America's Sweethearts. It was hilarious. Catherine Zeta Jones played her in real life IMO.
ReplyDeleteI like Jennifer Lawerence , she's a little weird. Amy Adams is it though.
