Today's Blind Items - Cancer Killed Her Career But Not Her
It was just a few years ago that this actress landed a recurring role on a network television series. She had been acting for all of two years when she was cast. It had been a very quick rise for the stunningly good looking actress who was also dating a network star from a hit show. Things were about to explode for the actress and she was about to be cast as the female lead in a huge box office summer popcorn movie when her world came crashing down. First her show was canceled and then she got even worse news. Cancer. Terminal cancer the doctors told her. She was given a very short time to live but decided to fight with every thing she could and she did it. She knocked her terminal cancer into remission. While she was on chemo and every other treatment she could think of she tried to keep acting and keep her career momentum going to but it was tough when she didn't even know if she was going to be alive when the part was shot. For the past few years she has fought and fought and the cancer keeps coming back and she keeps ending up in the hospital and it is amazing how no one wonders whatever happened to the amazing actress with the bright future who was going to be an "it girl" and then dropped off the map. The A list future that was taken away not by anything she did, but because of cancer.

ReplyDeleteChristina Applegate doesn't fit--she hasn't fallen off the map and she's been famous for years. This girl disappeared before she became huge.

ReplyDeleteSophia Bush is going to be on that new Chicago PD show. Idk if that means anything, but if she can't really act because of the cancer, I doubt it's Sophia.

ReplyDeleteIt's not Evangeline Lilly, she never disappeared -- she was on LOST the whole run and in the Hurt Locker and now the Hobbit. (She just never became the next Angelina Jolie like people expected.)

I don't think Lily ever wanted to be the next Jolie, she seems pretty down to earth, her boyfriend and baby daddy is just a regular guy. So far I still like her!

ReplyDeleteGood for her for knocking it into remission. I'd like to know what she did besides chemo. I have 2 family members fighting breast cancer right now and have lost 3 friends this year to cancer. There has to be something besides chemo. The Budwig protocol is the only alternative I've heard of (through a reader here) that seems to offer any hope.

ReplyDeleteThe blind says "stunningly good looking." Lake Bell is at best a weak 4 on the 1-10 scale. She doesn't even make it to average in the looks dept.
Maura Tierney is a talented & very solid actress but the career description doesn't fit well.
It doesn't fit Lilly at all. She couldn't get the bad news that her show was canceled, given that LOST had fixed an ending date for years before the sixth season. Plus, she wasn't a recurring, she was a lead, and she didn't date some guy on another hit network. She dated a co-star.
ReplyDeleteFor "stunningly beautiful," I was thinking of Yvonne Strahovski, Sarah from Chuck, but she was a few months ago a recurring on Dexter and she's been dating a regular Joe for years.
It must be someone who's more obscure or half-forgotten now. I thought of Irene Molloy. Started her career in 1999. On "Grosse Pointe" a few months latter. Was cast on "Andy Richter Controls the Universe" in 2002. Show canceled after two half-seasons. Stopped her TV career to focus on music. But she's apparently quite eccentric in real life, according to the features on the DVD, as Paget Brewster remembers that she once crashed her house, coming back barefoot from her hometown a few years after the show was over.
Maura Tierney also just finished a months long run in The Lucky Guy on Broadway with Tom Hanks.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to Emily Valentine, (don't know her real name) from the original 90210? She had a quirky beauty to her. Emily was recurring on 90210 for awhile, then she was on ER, (I think she was killed off). And then just disappeared...probly not her, but I always wondered.
