Joan Rivers Isn't Politically Correct

TMZ got Joan Rivers on film and in the film she managed to offend just about every segment of the population. If you can think of a racist name for someone she used it. If you can think of a gay slur she used it. She says the world is way too uptight about words and she thinks that everyone should forgive Alec Baldwin and feel free to use the slurs all the time. Well, MSNBC begs to disagree and fired Alec Baldwin and I don't think he will be welcomed back to the NBC family anytime soon. As for Joan, it will be interesting to see what E! does or makes her do or if they hope that this will be quietly forgotten and no one will have to make a statement. If E! does nothing then they are implying they agree with her? They are probably all sitting in a conference room right now all wondering how they should proceed while Guiliana Rancic keeps barging in and showing them photos of Duke's poop and wondering if it means something.

  2. Being offensive is her schtick. If they didn't know that (E!) going in, then I guess they never saw her stand-up.
Wonder why she's tight with Baldwin, though. They both seem to have massive egos, so that's a strange friendship.

  3. Intolerance of others is unforgivable but when is it joking and when is it biggotry? Why can some use the words and not others? Have we as a society become too PC?

  4. Me Chinese, me play joke. Me put pee pee in her coke.

    1. OMG Me. Is that why that ugly stick figure is on.tv? Gahhh.!! We'll never be rid of her.

  6. I think we have @Cleo. Look at how auntliddy got nailed for using "retarded" in the right context! Even though they've changed the term technically now, she didn't use it for a put down.

  7. Can't see the vid but I'm not surprised, she tries to be as offensive as possible for shock value. Strangely though, she doesn't offend me. I guess I'm used to her "act."

And I doubt E! will do anything, she says "shocking" things on Fashion Police while her puppets sit around forcing laughter.

  8. I wonder what Don Rickles has to say about all of this.

  10. MSNBC has no valid reason to fire Baldwin if they keep Martin Bashir on after how he described Sarah Palin. I can't stand the woman, but that was beyond the pale.

  11. I haven't watched any Guiliana, but sometimes, baby poop means stuff. Sometimes it's good to get an opinion.

Joan Rivers has never said she is anything but what she is and her act hasn't changed substantially. Why all the fuss now?

  12. NOW they noticed?!?! JR's comedy routine from the beginning has consisted of making fun of celebrities and being as racist as they come so not sure what the fuss is about re: her. Now the issue I have is the double standard that comes with being "politically correct" where certain ethnic slurs have more weight than others and the punishment much more severe if you use them. Either shut everyone down who uses them or don't, but do not pick and chose which ones folks deem to be the worst.

  13. What I'm about to write pisses me off, but I think I must stand up for alec baldwin.

Fuck this stupid PC. alec baldwin is an asshole who deserves severe punishment for all his beatings, insults and everything done to people, but he gets fired for attacking someone who, in case he was straight, he could have fucked off. That network has a dude who said said "someone should defecate and urinate in former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's mouth" but nothing has happened because she is straight and, worst of all, Republican.

  14. I like Joan. She cracks me up on Fashion Police.

  15. She says people are too uptight about words, unless they make a comment about her being a plastic surgery addict. Then them's fighting words and she threatens to sue. (Granted it was a threat to sue Michael Lohan, but still, when her feelings are affected she sings another tune).

  16. Alec Baldwin wasnt fired from his show because of just one infraction. He was fired because his recent altercation was one of MANY altercations. Both phyically and verbaly abusive. And yes, when you spew anti-gay homophobic slurs over and over again, it will make the sponsors of your very new tv show nervous. Therefore they will pull the plug. Im so tired of hearing 'everything is so PC nowadays'.. It was NEVER okay to call someone a f@ggot, n%gger, c$#ksucker in the form of biggoted ignorance. Society didnt pull back the reigns. But they have now.. Joined the last 20 years much?!

  17. People should not be discouraged from using language of choice. It serves as a good, reliable measure of intelligence, class, and sobriety.

  18. Please this isn't new and she wasn't aiming at anyone just making an observation

  19. Joan is 100% absolutely correct here.

I love the comment about that chimpanzee faced Giuliana Rancic showing her kids poop. Classic.

  20. @s.joy, ITA (as usual, ha!) - for some reason, Joan doesn't bother me. She thrives on being catty and offensive and that's her schtick.

    @John, PERFECT.

@Kermie, I don't agree with whoever it was that said that about Sarah Palin (gross) but I will also say that people don't dislike Palin because she's "straight and worst of all a Republican." She's straight, all right - a straight up idiot. Ever see the clip of her daughter's reality show where her 2-year-old grandson calls his aunt a faggot and the mom just giggles? How about Palin's interview with Katie Couric? Class breeds class, natch, and the US dodged a bullet when they voted against her. McCain, who by many accounts is a pretty awesome guy, was unfortunate to let that train wreck hitch her wagon to his campaign.

    1. I'm not a Palinista type gal, but the things you've sited are terribly reductive and don't show the work she did in her state, regardless of politics. I also loathe Katie Couric, AKA, the most uninformed and shallowest of thinkers. This is a common knowledge thing, on both sides of the aisle. As for Baldwin, he's always been an ass, whatever MSNBC wants, who cares. As for Joan, she's Joan. If you think this is rough, go see her standup. She's the hardest b*tch on the stroll. E can like it, or fire her, whatever fits their policies. I do hate this rampant over used PC horse shit, though.

  22. As I said during the whole Jennifer Lawrence kerfluffle: Joan Rivers is irrelevant. Resorting to slurs is lazy as well as hateful.

I'm with @Greg. And @John, oddly enough. It shows a person's true character. Or in some cases, 'character'.

  23. Remember people, if you hate everyone equally, you aren't racist, just an asshole.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Here's the thing. You don't have to be PC or not PC or whatever. The world WILL PC you! Say all the intolerant, hateful, ugly words you like, just know they have consequences. Call the wrong (or right) person a f** or n***** and see what happens. Bet you get PC real quick after you get punched in the nose.

  25. Joan has never had much of a filter, and at her age, she is more outspoken than ever.

I don't think it's the words that damage as much as the intent behind them. Alec's absolute rage is what I find disturbing more than the words he uses when he loses control.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I really think Alec needs to use a Tourette's Syndrome defence, "when I get upset, my Tourette's acts up, I just happen to use anti gay slurs because that my subconscious mind acting on my conscious mind"

  27. First thanks renoblonde. Second, anyone who hires Joan Rivers knows what they are getting. Shes almost 80, a bazillionare, she fears no one and nothing, lol. And Alec Baldwins show was cancelled because it had low ratings. Like no pulse. You think he'd be gone if his show was a hit? Please! And all this pc stuff is very upsetting, esp when zero offense is meant and then misconstrued as such. I didnt know f--------/t was so offensive, but i never have occaision to use that word so theres why. I certainly wont use r word. It sucks hurting someone's feelings when you didnt mean to.

  28. There is a difference between saying a word and using a word.

  29. Such a non story, albeit a shocking one and it's great to see the readers not buying it.

  30. He got fired 'cause the ratings sucked. It's always about $$$ not morality.

    ReplyDelete
  31. We have become far too politically correct and far too easily offended. Alec Baldwin was fired because the man is a class 1 a$$ole. Prime. They don't make bigger jerks.
Remember when he said his mother wouldn't leave upstate NY because she didn't want to leave her favorite grocery store? Its really because if she moved to California or even a large city that was easier to get to, she would have to spend more time with him. Hes just as nasty to her as he is to everyone else.

  32. @Auntliddy, Alec was a huge ratings hit for MSNBC, one of the most watched programs in their history. All seven viewers are saddened by the loss of his show. :)

  33. She sounds drunk.

  34. Political correctness is nonsense still.

If someone offends someone else by using derogatory language towards a group and gets bad feedback, I doubt the one offending will change their mind about the issue and will rather become aggravated and spiteful.

When someone belonging to a group usually discriminated against uses their association to bully people, they have become part of the establishment and about as hypocritical.

  35. E and NBC are the same company so typical hypocracy. its about money and ratings masking as social justice.. If you are valuable enough you get a pass. also she is is Jewish so no way anything will happen to her. she gets a free pass for that automatically. that said I do think its bs what happen to Alec. the gays make it tough on themselves by constantly claiming words as gay slurs. when did c_sucker become a gay slur?
