Your Turn

How many tattoos is too many?

  1. Umm, as many as the person wants? Is this a trick question, Entward? Their body, their choice.

Agree MerryB: never enough! Got the rest of my back job booked for November.

  3. I have 3--that's not enough.

  4. I have 9. Nothing really big, though. I have plans for 3 more.

  5. I only have one, it's of my class ring.

  6. Any at all.

This is as close to religion as I get: Your skin is a miracle of perfect design, and it's the height of arrogance to defile it with some design that will eventually be just a sickly-looking blue-green stain in the skin.

  7. Depends. Well done sleeves or socks look amazing. Beiber's half assed preschool drawings in random places inked by blind gnomes on crack look fucking ridiculous.

  8. I almost got a tattoo

  9. I have a charm bracelet around my ankle, 3 different coloured paw prints on my foot, a ring of fire on my thigh, my grandparents initials on the inside of both wrists, a compass rose that spells home instead of the directions and one tramp stamp. I hate only the tramp stamp. All 3 kids have tattoos as well.

  10. One. I hate tattoos and think they are body mutilation.

  11. One is too many. You want to get with me; you'd better not have any tattoos. They don't age well, and so many are ugly designs in the first place. It seems like it has gotten very hard to find anyone in the 35 or under age set without tattoos. I keep saying that I'm going to start a chain of tattoo removal shops, and clean up.

  12. I have 4; all can be covered. I plan on several more. Each marks a time in my life that I want to remember always--none came about without lots of thought and planning. I can respect others' opinion that tattoos are body mutilation but to me they mean so much more than that. Just my humble opinion. :)

  13. don't like tat's, one small one is fine but a patchwork of unrelated ink is gross

  14. I don't really care what people do with themselves as far as tattoos go, but if you actually have to work for a living, anything on the hands, neck or face is silly.

Count : I agree with you. All mine can be covered up with pants, and a long sleeved, collared shirt (almost). The only people I know with hand, neck and face tatts are actual tattooists or musicians. Otherwise you fuck your future chances at employment.

One of the things I like about my ink is going into a bar with it showing and it shuts the fuck up idiots like you.

  16. One. Can't wait till this fad becomes passe. Even more, I hope I live long enough to see all these now 20- and 30-something would-be hipsters as old people with saggy tats.

  20. its not a matter of how many is too many. it's all about the placement. and keeping yourself employable in this world.

  21. One is too many. I'm so scared of needles that I assaulted the nurse, took off running, was clotheslined by two doctors, and had to be strapped to a baby board for my kindergarten shots. I'm slightly better now, but I'll still hyperventilate if I don't look away and read something while having blood drawn.

  22. Even thinking about getting a tattoo is one tattoo too many.

  23. I agree with you @j kav.

  24. " hee hee. Yeah. You bad."

And this is what's going through mind of the damn guy in the bar I end up flooring. Every...fucking...time. I can see it in his eyes, coming my way. I'm there to see the band. I'm not there to fight. Closed fist = felony, even if I'm dating a prosecutor for the local DA at the time.

The real drawback of ink, if you're a Cro-Magnon like me? The fucking legal bills.

  25. I have none. My dad used to say "why put something permanently on your skin that you wouldn't hang on your wall?"
I know they can be removed. I don't think they age well, and we all change our minds about things.

^^ sleeved, full back piece and working on my " tights " - oh and fully and gainfully employed - huzza!

  27. If you've run out of skin on your body and are now heading for inking the face, you've gone too far.

Speaking of tattoo removal I think I shall request my skin be removed and mounted as art after my demise. That's the only kind of removal I see fit.

Alicia : you need to contact Gunther Von Hagens. He'd love my body with all it's ink. I'd seriously leave it to him.

  29. If you ever wanted your ink off, you weren't worthy of it in the first place. Barring stupid Nazi face tatts or whatever.

  30. FSP- Bazinga!!

Count I was about to say the same thing. Nothing on the face or neck. It looks bad. Especially on women. IMHO.

Some people fit with tats and some (me) do not but to each their own.

  31. A wise person once said to me, "A tattoo is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Generally a haircut works for me!"

  32. Depends on the body it's going on.

  33. One.

Don't do anything to help the police!

  34. "This is as close to religion as I get: Your skin is a miracle of perfect design, and it's the height of arrogance to defile it with some design that will eventually be just a sickly-looking blue-green stain in the skin." Says the heavily overweight man.

Your body is a miracle of perfect design, and it's the height of arrogance to defile it with a chronic excess of calories, that will eventually lead to obesity; which can lead to severe and deadly illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, stroke, CAD, CVD, MI, and cancer.

I'll take a "sickly-looking blue-green stain in the skin," over a "sickly-looking" body - that is actually sick - any day.

  35. I don't think it's the number of tattoos so much as the placement. You will never convince me that a neck tattoo serves any purpose than to make you look utterly crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. For me, one tattoo would be too many. I can't think of one single thing I would want to have on me forever. My kiddos have already left enough permanent marks. On someone else: fill yer boots, it's your body, ink that right the eff up. I do roll my eyes at the cliché one, but hey, those are my peepers.

True story: my bff (except we didn't call it that back then) was furious when her brother wouldn't give her the tattoo she wanted for Christmas (he was an artist and that was what he was giving everyone); now she is just so thankful she doesn't have a Barbie sleeve like she wanted. At 12.

  37. Haha - I have a star on my wrist, but I still know it's tacky looking. I still love it! Although I know people judge those with tattoos, I don't care! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. It depends.
Are you a yakuza or a criminal (wannabe or actual)? As much as you want is great.
Are you a productive member of the society? More than zero is too many.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't have any, but I'm always threatening to get a hummingbird and Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas. Something I've always wondered: If you gain a lot of weight, or lose a lot of weight, how does that affect the tattoo?

  40. Some tats are real artwork, beautiful. Some look like hell. Im not fan of tats, but to each his own. The reason I wldnt get one is what if u change your mind? What u wkd choose at 18 is diff than what u wld pick at 30. I just dont see liking the same tat you get at 18 FOR LIFE!!

  41. I have 10 & love them all. They make me happy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love tattoos, but not when they are on the face.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It is not the quantity but the size. I have several and can get Japanese to move away from me at the pool with just a look. I am also a mensa qualified highly paid professional with a full house of degrees all earned with honours.

  44. I always get the feeling B. is writing a character.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Any. I really don't get them. Why would you permanently paint your body? None look good after several years, they immediately mark the individual as being low class (to those who don't like them), health risks, most are UGLY, gross, weird, etc. It's like smoking and wife-beaters; why?

    ReplyDelete
  46. There is no "too many", there is only "to each their own".

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am a English professor with eight tattoos and plan on getting five more. I already know what they are going to be too. My arm tat gets tons of people talking, and I find my tats open people up because they are "shocked" a woman like me has them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I just got my first tattoo yesterday! Love it and plan to get a couple more.

  49. none. Why put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari?

    ReplyDelete
  50. One.
Its an instant turnoff for me. If youre gonna willingly inflict that kinda pain on yourself, what will you do to me? :-(

    ReplyDelete
  51. I have none myself, but don't mind a few if well placed or small. The face and neck ones bother me, and on actresses who do the whole high fasion, red carpet thing, I think they can be distracting if too large or poorly placed.

None for me, they seem to look regrettable down the road.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I have one on my ankle. My uber conservative teen was horrified. Finally she relaxed about it but warned me yo stop. She said "One is OK. But if you get more, then you're one of those people that gets tattoos!" Ah kids nowadays!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have a small one I like on my spine.
I definitely toned down my aspirations, forcing myself to keep in mind that I might become a Laura Ashley fan with sagging skin some day. Neither has happened yet but I realize I have made the right choice for the long term.
Tattoos look awesome on young/fit people but when you cross a certain age/weight, imho, it really ages people and makes them look has been. Especially for women.
