I never thought there would be anything I liked ever again that had the words Miley Cyrus in it but I actually liked this A Capella version of We Can't Stop and even watched it twice. I know, I know. It really is good though.
Her top lip stays still while she 'song's and her boulder sized overly white chiclets seem too big for a tyranisaurus Rex. She is not a talented singer. She is below average. She does not belong on stage with the level of singers who surround her in that vid. This is all stunt marketing, at which she is a pro. She has not, sadly, figured out the ovrexposed angle. Like Lady GagMe, she will discover this soon enough. Our ears, eyes, and hearts will hopefully survive and recover. Doubtful she will, though. Too much too soon, and the toll on her body/psyche will warrant a visit to the sanitarium for 'exhaustion'. I am sure she means well, but she is not all that bright. My take on it is that she interviews while seriously high, which is why she comes across so weird. I only get hith in private because I know how I sound. She has never had real privacy, and her addiction to fame is gonna cost her bigtime.
I had the discussion with my husband the other night that if this song came out when I was 21, I would be all over it. It would be my anthem. I am not a fan of hers but 21 year old me loves this song.
Did anyone notice on SNL how she barely looked at her cue cards? She was so well-rehearsed and so poised, so much more than the regular players, she blew me away. She wasn't "on" anything. I'm an old fart and I was impressed.
She has a Disney stigma to shake off in order to carry on a successful post-teen career and she's doing it. Fuck all the haters that say she can't sing. Girl CAN sing. I hope she keeps moving onward and upward.
Her voice is okay, but she's singing from the wrong place and is going to blow out her vocal cords. She should be letting the air flow through, and instead she's clenching her vocal cords too much to produce some of the notes. That technique has ruined a lot of singers' vocal cords. Alannah Myles (Black Velvet) has permanently ruined her voice by doing that. She toured a lot in one year for Black Velvet and that's all it took.
Nope, you're wrong, SophiaB. Miley can definitely sing. For some reason, she doesn't seem to want to in this particular video. It's just too bad she'd rather be talked about for being wild rather than for being talented.
Miley's voice is average, suitable for pop and sing talking with a bit of wailing. And yes, I've seen her cover of Jolene and her vocals are nothing compared to the clarity, tone and expression of Dolly's version.
I agree Unknown. She could benefit from some lessons to avoid any damage. Most popular singers realize this pretty soon. Cyndy Lauper almost lost her voice and learned it better. I wish she would stop singing through her nose those..Again breath control girl...Learn it, save a vocal cord.
There is something about her mouth that bothers me.
ReplyDeleteAlso The Roots rule.

DeleteI liked this too. I actually like the song....the low BPM makes it sound different from everything else on the radio. I bought it on iTunes.
ReplyDeleteMiley looks less ridiculous in this video, so you can concentrate on her voice, which is good.
I bought it too. It makes me smile and remember my party life pre husband and kids
DeleteGirl can totally sing. She just needs to quit speaking.
ReplyDeleteDamn. That was pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe Roots are freaking awesome and some of the nicest people ever.
The Roots definitely score a win doing this with the Chipmunk. Now they will have a higher profile. I got no bone to pick with that.
ReplyDeleteI still think Neon Hitch's version is better

ReplyDeleteif only her new style was a little more toned down and not so over the top..its not bad , it definitely catchy
ReplyDeleteI watched this twice and teared up twice.

I don't think I've ever heard her sing before. She's talented!
ReplyDeleteYouTube her Backyard Sessions. She IS talented. Her cover of Bob Dylan's " You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome" is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHer cover of "Jolene" was great too.

ReplyDeleteI lasted 40 seconds. That was awful.
ReplyDeleteMiley has a good voice and doesn't need to deflect from that with all those antics (like Madonna does).
ReplyDeleteThe Roots are freakin' awesome. And so is Jimmy Fallon.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great singer. Never took sh*t off.

Obviously Miley's not fucking Aretha Franklin or Nina Simone, but she's not utterly untalented either.
ReplyDeleteShe's a very experienced entertainer.
This is not a good example of the Roots though. Go watch Dear God 2.0 for the Roots. Amazing.
jIMMY fALLEN GHAS THE BEST SKITS ON HIS SHOW! jIMMY FALLEN IS aWEAOME@
ReplyDelete@Sherry, I think the dope's going to ruin her voice long before any lack of professional voice training.
