Blind Items Revealed

February 6, 2009

#4 - This Academy Award Winning actor was filming a movie about two years ago. He gave a great performance but it was not the performance the director had in mind. What was supposed to be an uptight character turned into a sleeping, slow witted, type of character which caused the movie to go over budget and shoot for twice as long. The reason was our actor was shooing up heroin almost constantly and could barely even function and could only remember a line at the most for each shot.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman

  1. Another 'vintage' blind. PSH has acknowledged his drug use. Apparently it was bad.

  6. Oh, so sad. :/ He's clean now, right? I hope...

  7. I wonder why this wasn't revealed closer to when PSH announced he was in treatment?

  8. I hope he is clean. He was supposed to be in the movie Child 44 with Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace and rumour was Tom Hardy really pushed for his casting but he was replaced by Vincent Cassell in the middle of filming. I think PSH had not started his part so it wasn't a case he has started the film and was pulled off. No information as to whether PSH pulled out of the role or he was replaced out of concerns he was not ready yet. If he had failed a drug test that might have been enough.

  9. A stoned PSH was still a better actor than a large number of actors in Hollywood.

    2. Agree. But I hope he's continuing to take recovery seriously - he's such a wonderful, talented actor and it would be a shame if it was all wasted on heroin.

  10. if the movie was "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead",there is a problem: Lumet never did a over-budget movie and PSH 's character is not a slow witten character

if the movie is Synecdoche,New York,PSH's character is Charlie Kaufman the director who is a guy very complicated:i guess the movie is Synecdoche

if PSH was really a heroin addict at this time,he worked too much for that it is true:Hollywood is okay with coke but hates heroin

    1. That's what I was guessing, too. And agreed about the double standard on H vs coke in H'wood. As long as the star is up and peppy, who gives a fuck if their heart explodes, but H is dirty, and conjures pictures of grungy homeless folks in the minds of some in middle America. Both are destroyers.

  11. @Tina Mallette: i thought PSH finally refused because of shedule conflict (he's working other films) and it's not the first time that an actor in talk turns down an offer

  12. He was also in a movie The 'Savages' in 2007. It could have been that one. Read where he first went into rehab after college so sounds like he has been fighting it a long time.

  13. french girl, are you denying he's a mess? and i love the guy. he's a great actor and i had no idea he was a heroin addict, but he's not the first actor to work on heroin.

  14. Reese, he went back to rehab semi recently. Fingers crossed that he is still clean.

  15. what about capote? it would make more sense for capote to be uptight, etc.

  16. @Jayme, he won his oscar for playing Capote. I think her pretty much nailed him. I think the movie is either MI3 or Charlie Wilson's War.

  17. I love PSH too. I so hope he won that fight with his demons.

  18. This gives me a case of the sads. Love PSH & hope he's conquered his demons.

  19. Sad face, I love him too. Also love the commenter above - PSH on heroin is still going to deliver a performance better than 98% of the actors out there.

Same for RDJ - thankfully he doesn't do that anymore (you never know, relapse is always possible).

  20. ** not that RDJ was a heroin guy, I believe his greatest love is cocaine.

  21. Love him, he's a great method actor! Kudos if he's rehabilitated (that was hard to spell...chuckles at self)! We have so few actual actors left to admire these days.

  22. @Hunter: RDJ was a heroin guy. He may have done speedballs too, but H was his drug of choice.

As for PSH: this is the first I am hearing heroin, did not peg him for a junkie at all.

  25. What studio wouldn't cut their losses after a couple weeks of this and recast? I mean, I believe it happened, I just kind of can't believe they would put up with the costs at a certain point.
