Given that this was probably manufactured in Asia, they either a) did not understand the perceived implications for 'naughty' or b) do understand because they think all American consumers are closeted pedophiles.
The costume isn't even of a leopard. They just need to change the name of it, that's the only problem I see. If not, many women will buy it thinking it's a costume that makes them look as skanky as possible, and will be sorely disappointed.
There's nothing inappropriate about the costume. And I see the word "naughty" in many children's books. Isn't "naughty" said a millions times around Santa Claus time. Political correctness gone awry IMHO.
It's not about having a dirty mind. During Halloween, if there is "naughty" on the packaging of the costume, it typically is an incredibly revealing one for adults.
If a grown man looked at my little daughter wearing the costume and uttered, "naughty leopard", I do believe I would remove his testacles. The costume is fine. The name is fucking creepy.
ASDA in the UK (owned by Walmart) had to apologise and remove a costume today.
It was a mental patient in a white coat splashed in blood with a meat cleaver. I thought it was funny.
Then Tesco had to remove one entitled Phsyco Ward, which was a very unflattering orange jumpsuit with a Hannibal lector type muzzle. Both of these are for adults.
Mental health chatities were all suitably outraged and complained about trivialising the issue.
@Fancyscreenname - I am sorry but I do not agree. you expressed your opinion and MBK did the same. I also think everyone is getting ridiculously sensitive out there in the real world if a costume needs to be pulled form the shelves because of the "naughty" comment. So how is this point of view not acceptable? if you thought MBK meant you, maybe you are indeed a bit too sensitive. QED
I try to think of it this way. If someone were to ask a little girl "What are you dressed up as, Sweetie?" and she answers, "I'm a naughty leopard." Would that make you look at it a little differently?
I think the name is odd, BUT I also don't think the solution to these things is to always pull them from shelves. When people don't like something, they don't buy it. If no one buys it, then there will be no need to make it anymore.
People need to think for themselves and not just have things removed from their line of sight so they don't have to deal with it. If someone worries about their child seeing it and asking questions, use that opportunity to talk to them about it.
Over the past few years there has been a "sexualization" of Halloween. Halloween used to b about being SCARY and CREATIVE. Now every woman who wants to tap into her inner Hooker seizes the opportunity to dress like a whore. Its gotten weird. Now its starting to spread (subtly) to our young GIRLS. As it applies to this post. I don't agree with pulling the costume off the shelf. I would have just passed it. But we cannot deny that society is changing.
I think MBK meant the "everyone" who had it pulled. NOT everyone commenting here. Fancy and" L" you realize you all (including MBK) agree here on this non controversy right?
Yeah Sherry....Got it. When something strikes close to home people get a bit ornery. That's why the last time a poster thought I was calling her out on a post I ignored her nastiness. I wasn't talking about her post, but merely commenting on the blind. It happens. I thought mbk was calling out the posters.
WHOOPS!
Halloween is changing! When I was a youngin' there was no such thing as a sexy witch. This is how I know I'm "aging". Lol
I can't stand the sight of a sexy witch! Witches should ALWAYS look like the one in the WIZARD OF OZ. by definition they are scary, gross and eat children!
I swear if I see a sexy witch this year I'm gonna beat her with my cane!
@Rach - I loved the Little Miss books. My fave was "Little Miss Never-Shuts-the-Fuck-Up" also known as Little Miss Chatterbox cause I always got into trouble for talking.
I don't see anything wrong with the costume. The name of the costume is probably a poor translation from some other country. Nothing is MADE IN THE USA like Walmart used to claim was all they sold.
The only thing inappropriate that I can see is the name.
ReplyDeleteAgree w PSL. The costume is fine. The name is kind of sketchy.
ReplyDeleteCute Leopard would have been a better title. The costume itself is age appropriate.
ReplyDeletePatty: maybe it came with a stripper pole?
DeleteIt's the name...not the costume!
ReplyDeleteI agree...the costume is more modest than some of the others out there, it is just the name
ReplyDeleteBahahahahahahaha!!!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing naughty about it..
ReplyDeleteGiven that this was probably manufactured in Asia, they either a) did not understand the perceived implications for 'naughty' or b) do understand because they think all American consumers are closeted pedophiles.

ReplyDeleteWell, it would depend on why she's naughty. LOL Maybe if people pulled their heads out of the gutter not everything would have a dirty meaning.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing inappropriate about the costume. And I see the word "naughty" in many children's books. Isn't "naughty" said a millions times around Santa Claus time. Political correctness gone awry IMHO.
ReplyDeleteStay classy, Walmart!
ReplyDeleteI don't like the name but the outfit is cute and age appropriate
ReplyDelete@VIP she looks like Grizabella from CATS!
ReplyDeleteIt's not about having a dirty mind. During Halloween, if there is "naughty" on the packaging of the costume, it typically is an incredibly revealing one for adults.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the name is probably a translation fail. I don't personally buy Walmart shit, anyway.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you all. It's the name, not the costume.
ReplyDeleteIf a grown man looked at my little daughter wearing the costume and uttered, "naughty leopard", I do believe I would remove his testacles. The costume is fine. The name is fucking creepy.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time, naughty meant what it says in the dictionary.
ReplyDelete@Melissa: agree! I mean is it inappropriate if your kids read Mr Men and Little Miss books? I had a Little Miss Naughty jim jams and t-shirt as a kid.

Just thought I'd share,....
The word NAUGHTY comes across salaciously. Other than that I see no problem.
ReplyDeleteEveryone is getting ridiculously sensitive. The costume itself is adorable and age appropriate, so who cares what the name is?
ReplyDelete@mbk.....we were asked a question ans we answered honestly. Hows about everyone just answer the blind /your turn and not bitch at the posters.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a case of bad translation. The costume is modest and appropriate for a child. Only the name is suspect.
ReplyDeleteThe costume itself is adorable and appropriate for a child. The name is stupid and inappropriate for a kid.

Thanx for your input but I've moved on.....

ReplyDeleteWhere the fuck is that costume called "naughty"? Saudi Arabia?
ReplyDeleteThe factory that made it should be sued for lying in their advertisments.

naugh·ty
ReplyDeleteˈnôtē
adjective
1.(esp. of children) disobedient; badly behaved.
The adults just have their minds in the wrong place.
Nothing inappropriate at all!! Anyone who looks at that and sees something inappropriate needs their heads examined.

Delete????
DeleteLOL!! I hate "sexy witch" especially since I can't play one anymore.
Deletefancyscreenname - YES!! 100 percent agree with you.
ReplyDeleteIn college, Halloween meant to me how can I dress up as much as a whore as possible and get away with it.
Post college through my early 30s it meant absolutely nothing to me.
Now as a mother of an almost-3-year-old, I am decked out with pumpkin lights and his costume just arrived today.
Times they are a' changin.
But, yeah. When something raises my WTF radar, I just don't buy it. All of these boycotts - Screw that! Money talks.
@Rach - I loved the Little Miss books. My fave was "Little Miss Never-Shuts-the-Fuck-Up" also known as Little Miss Chatterbox cause I always got into trouble for talking.
ReplyDeletemistang: ha ha! Little MissChatterbox was also one my mum got me. I used to get in trouble at school for talking too!

ReplyDeleteOff topic,
About 3 years ago a pastor’s complaint about a brand of men's underwear being sold with “pornographic” pictures on the packaging at the Cullman, AL Walmart reportedly led to a recall of the product.
Translation: "Pastor couldn't walk by without springing wood."
Pastor Frank only complained about the men's underwear, could it be that he is struggling with unresolved temptations?
Sorry, there is no pic of the underwear package that offended the Perv Pastor.
