I never attended a school formal. Ever. I thought they were just a pompous waste of money. My sister, on the other hand, attended prom all four years of high school, and made her own dress every time.
Also never attended a formal. On the night of Senior Prom I went with a couple of guys I worked with and we sat on the bluffs overlooking Pensacola Bay and drank beer for hours. Good times.
I now wear my class ring in one of my nipples, from which I hang my eco-friendly hemp bag, in which I keep my coffee receipts and my sleeping pills. I also keep an old, dried up peanut and jelly samich...I take it out every now and then to gaze at longingly.
Didn't go at all. Couldn't be bothered. I had very little to do with high school my last year after football season ended. I already had started taking college classes. I went to high school classes for a few hrs in the morning, then to college in the afternoon. Then work in the evening. Then drank like a sailor on shore leave on the weekends.
Homecoming senior year, 2001,with my crush Jay. I asked him to go with me. We had been flirting since junior year, so people were pressuring us to just date already, but none of us would make that move. During the last dance, to Nsync's "This I promise you", I asked him what was going on between us. He said, "um.. Lets just be friends." Broke my heart! I never recovered from it during the rest of senior year, into freshman year of college. Come 12 years later, I am close friends with his wife, and they will be attending my wedding in 3 weeks, lol.
I went to everything. My first dressy deal was a junior high dance. I had a satin dress with matching pumps and the Mum took me to the beauty shop for a big puffy hairdo. I thought I was Cinderella.

ReplyDeleteI don't think we ever *had* any "formals". Grade 12 grad was it, and I brought my then-boyfriend/now ex-husband. So that went real well.
