Vanna White’s Teenage Son Becomes A Hare Krishna

Today marks a first. I don't think I have written any post ever about Vanna White. Now that I type that, I feel like I may have written about the times that she and Pat Sajak got wasted at lunch before taping a bunch more shows in the afternoon. She has been a blind item or two for sure, but not any more than that which is surprising because at least one of the blinds was pretty spectacular. You figure with one like that there must be more stories about her going around, but no one e-mails me telling me about Vanna. With Pat? Tons but who really cares about Pat? If they did they would have watched his talk show.

This is for sure the first time I have ever written about Hare Krishna's. According to The National Enquirer Vanna's son, who attends The University Of Arizona got tired of partying and having fun everyday in school so shaved his head and joined the Hare Krishna's. Now he begs for money, including from his parents from whom he asked $1M. They declined to give it to him which means the kid has to stand out on street corners until he gets it the old fashioned way or wins it on a game show.

  1. Wow, it just goes to show it could happen to anyone's child. I know a boy who got involved with krishnas, wasted 20 years on it. And thats him speaking, not me. From 20 to 40 years old. I dont get ehy any intelligent person- which many of these joiners are- dont see how its such a scam. Oh well, hope he wakes up sooner rather than later.

  2. Pat Sajak had a talk show?

  3. How very retro of him. They used to hang out at airports also, but the TSA doesn't look kindly on that sort of thing these days.

  4. Pat Sajak did have a talk show. He's a miserable little prick, I can't believe anyone greenlighted it.

I'm sorry for Vanna. Losing her kid to a cult. Ugh.

  5. You know, Hare Krishnas aren't a cult. It is a religion, an offshoot of Hinduism. like any religion, there are fanatics, but the majority of Hare Krishnas are not fanatics. I don't know if Vanna White's son is involved with fanaticism - which is potentially gossip-worthy, but sensationalizing mere conversion smacks of religious intolerance/discrimination. Would this be an issue if he was converting to Catholicism? Judaism?

The Hare Krishnas I know are as normal as you and me, but they eat better and have a much more sympathetic view toward mankind and the earth. They do not have shaved heads and dance around with little cymbals.

Don't call yourself open minded or tolerant if you can't have some respect for someone a little different than you.

    rant over.

    1. Ah, but strangely, in their enlighted state, they are asking for a MILLION dollars. Im guessing these arent the benign group.

    2. No matter how you try to clean up a cult on a wiki, it's been a dangerous cult since the 60's. Let's hope once he dries out and the drugs purge from his system, he'll regain his sanity.

    3. Auntliddy, I think you're right. It sounds like he might have joined one of the more cultish sects.

I've had good and bad experiences with Hare Krishnas, definitely more good though. I did a lot of backpacking when I was younger and the local HK center was always a great place to get a cheap or free meal and good company.

    4. So the Krishnas are a cult because they ask for money. What about Joel osteen and Joyce meyers? Hmmm.

  7. Sounds like he is finding his way in life. Congrats to his parents for not enabling him. Wish him a peaceful and healthy journey. See how long it lasts.

  8. He'll get tired of it...

  9. Ummmm, you didn't write about pat and vanna getting drunk before tapings. Pat did in his book.

  10. At least it's not Scientology!

  11. I don't know this woman, but her son has joined probably the dumbest religion in the world. That's why many people think it's a sect, because is ludicrous.

  12. ITA, Fanciesmom. Plus their online stores have cool yoga pants and hippie skirts. And it worked for George Harrison. *shrug*

  14. When he (hopefully) comes out of this, he'll be thankful that he didn't squander that money and that he can live a life of comparative luxury...

  15. I know some Hare Krishnas and they are the most peaceful people you'll ever meet.

  16. I could care less about Vanna's son and his conversion. I would really like to hear more about Vanna's blind items, though. We're such WOF nerds in our house.

  17. I have an ISKCON copy of the Gita and several other books by Prabhupada, and in my prayer/meditation I sometimes turn to the Gita for an idea. (Don't feel pity for people, feel love for them and know that they are eternal, for example.) The group itself is an okayish group, and I would give people the same advice I give everyone: Don't join unless you have to. I don't think they're a full-on "cult" in the sense of the Unification Church or the Scios, but I imagine the groupthink would be offensive to most North American people. ISKCON is the only Hindu group that doesn't require you to be born into it, and so it's clearly one of a kind. Their ideas are great, but if you live in a religious community and allow them to discipline your children and you yourself, you'll eventually find yourself getting spanked or shunned, as with any religious group.

  18. @Barton - Ever read/used their vegetarian cookbook? It's actually wonderful. CHANT AND BE HAPPY is interesting, too, although I'll confess that I mainly wanted to read the interviews with John and George.

  19. Yeah...sorry, guys. They are a cult.

  20. Everyone I know who went to UofA had a great time. This kid is missing out.

Vanna has the best job on TV. She's not that attractive, a little boring and yet she gets to dress up in prom dresses every day for a ton of money. Ya, I'm jealous.

  21. University of Arizona is a great place for whores. ExploitedCollegeGirls.com and BackRoomCastingCouch.com are 2 sites who get a lot of talent from there.

There some whores in that house.

  22. Krishna lunch got me through grad school. $4/ all you could eat of delicious cruelty free veg eats. ISKCON has a huge headquarters in North Central FL and the devotees are wonderful people. My hubby and I went to HI for our honeymoon and ran into a Hare Krishna selling stickers. We mentioned where we were from and he go so excited he gave us stickers for free.

  23. All religions are basically "dangerous cults". Too many wittle away a person's ability to reason and encourage ignorance, misogyny and bigotry. That being said, the Hare Krishna's are low on my list of the most offensive cults.

  24. Scholars of religion have long noted that the dividing line between legit religion and hideous cult is impossible to draw. "Cult experts," however, tend to look for: charismatic leader, dogmatic beliefs, heavy degree of control by the sect over one's personal life, demand for regular financial donations, disparaging non-believers, and urging separation from the rest of the world. Which, again, could describe every religion that exists. Try getting a hipster Buddhist to hang out with people who don't shop at Lululemon, you'll see someone shun you real quick!

  25. @BartonFink
My hubs is a Buddhist and doesn't shop there. I guess he's a big square.

I'm glad it's a different cult than the ScienoNuts.

  27. At least he didn't join the Church of Scientology. This way, at least Vanna gets a shot at seeing him again even if it is with his head shaved playing a tambourine.
