Pot Activist Killed By Drunk Driver
For much of her life, Jennifer Friede argued for the legalization of pot and railed against the horrors of drinking and especially drunk drivers. On Saturday morning, Jennifer was killed by a drunk driver who was traveling on the wrong side of the interstate, just outside Denver. The driver, a woman named Rebecca Maez, age 27 was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide. Friede's boyfriend who was driving the car in which Jennifer was killed also suffered injuries in the accident, but is expected to make a full recovery and was already talking to the media about what happened. "You could see the other car coming, but I just couldn't get out of the way fast enough."
Maez has previously been arrested for DUI.
Horrible.
ReplyDeleteUgh, this makes me sick. :(
ReplyDeleteHow ironically awful. Rip.
ReplyDeleteSo the implication is that because he may have been under the influence of mj, he couldn't move fast enough or what?
ReplyDeleteI think the implication is that alcohol kills, pot does not.
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste of human life. Ironic
ReplyDeleteI always felt there should be a distinction in charges if a DUI causes an accident of any sort, compared to someone driving along fine, but pulled over for an inspection sticker or something dumb. Tolerance has much to do with these things.
ReplyDeleteAn arbitrary # thrown out by the government is a stupid test of sobriety. Some people are a mess at .08. Others can be at .16 and you can't tell they had a sip.
Drunk drivers are the scum of this earth. I think lobotomy would be a suitable punishment for DUIs, you probably don't really feel like driving after that.
ReplyDeleteIf that bitch had been blitzed on a blunt instead of drink she probably wouldn't have killed anyone with her car
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'
Hanwi probably thinks executions are good for those who make sex tapes too.
ReplyDeleteNot crazy about turning a horrible tragedy into some type of pot vs alcohol debate- both of which impair drivers and will ultimately lead to more traffic deaths.
ReplyDeleteDidn't Sam Kinison always say drinking whilst driving is okay? Ironically also killed by a drunk driver, and when, for one of the first times in his life, he was actually clean himself.
ReplyDeletePip, you're comparing drunk driving to something harmless and not criminal like making a sex tape? Nice logic. I'm sorry if driving drunk means just a bit of fun to you.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't have anything to do with driving while under the influence of marijuana as that can still cause the same damage as a DUI from alcohol.
ReplyDeleteThe point is alcohol is legal and yet many people die from it themselves or cause others to die from it like in this accident. Marijuana is illegal and yet nobody has ever died from an overdose of it. The medical benefits are overlooked while the govt reaps the taxes from alcohol. The irony lies in this and that a repeat DUI driver killed someone fighting for the rights of pot.
Oh God, how incredibly sad . :( She was right, though.
ReplyDeleteThe fact the driving under the influence of one substance is far more dangerous and irresponsible than another substance, does not alter the fact that driving on either substance is dangerous and irresponsible. In short, if you're high, fucked up, buzzed, floating, frying, on pain meds, what have you, should not be behind the the wheel and should be punished if you are.
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes to all of that. Don't forget sleepy driving, I see it all the time and it's incredibly dangerous.
Deletewith all due respect, if that's not a posthumous 'I told you so' I don't know what is. But really, that is horrible.
