NY Daily News Fires All Its Reporters - AKA This Seems Familiar
This morning a reader sent me a link to this headline:
Jay Z and Beyonce fired bodyguard Norman Oosterbroek, after freaky incidents, before he died during break-in
When I read the headline I thought to myself that was nice of the Daily News to give me a solid and report on the story I first broke. I skimmed through the story which was basically a rehashing of my blind item and reveal and my follow-up and some information they got from the Miami Herald to fill in the blanks. There was no mention of me or the "print publication" that made the deal with Beyonce and Jay-Z. If the Daily News knew all of this how come they didn't know the "print publication?" It was The Enquirer who made the deal which is how Beyonce ended up on Shape. Both companies are owned by American Media.
To make matters worse The Daily News called their story an exclusive. An exclusive what?
There are lots of times where sources send their stories to more than one place. It happens all the time. They want to get picked up or have a chance to earn money so they send the same scoop to every tabloid and blog e-mail they can find. Then everyone basically runs the same story that day. If you beat someone by an hour no one really expects credit.
I wouldn't be making a post about this at all except The Daily News ran a story a few weeks ago about how Perez Hilton never credits The Daily News for stories he writes from their reporting. Two weeks later they are doing the exact same thing.
The place has been going downhill since they let the king of the blind items, Ben Widdicombe go a few years ago. I used to hope every day that he would have one for me to read. When he got fired it was a sad day. Michael Musto is great at the blinds too, but Ben was my favorite.
