NY Daily News Fires All Its Reporters - AKA This Seems Familiar

This morning a reader sent me a link to this headline:

Jay Z and Beyonce fired bodyguard Norman Oosterbroek, after freaky incidents, before he died during break-in

When I read the headline I thought to myself that was nice of the Daily News to give me a solid and report on the story I first broke. I skimmed through the story which was basically a rehashing of my blind item and reveal and my follow-up and some information they got from the Miami Herald to fill in the blanks. There was no mention of me or the "print publication" that made the deal with Beyonce and Jay-Z. If the Daily News knew all of this how come they didn't know the "print publication?" It was The Enquirer who made the deal which is how Beyonce ended up on Shape. Both companies are owned by American Media.

To make matters worse The Daily News called their story an exclusive. An exclusive what?

There are lots of times where sources send their stories to more than one place. It happens all the time. They want to get picked up or have a chance to earn money so they send the same scoop to every tabloid and blog e-mail they can find. Then everyone basically runs the same story that day. If you beat someone by an hour no one really expects credit.

I wouldn't be making a post about this at all except The Daily News ran a story a few weeks ago about how Perez Hilton never credits The Daily News for stories he writes from their reporting. Two weeks later they are doing the exact same thing.

The place has been going downhill since they let the king of the blind items, Ben Widdicombe go a few years ago. I used to hope every day that he would have one for me to read. When he got fired it was a sad day. Michael Musto is great at the blinds too, but Ben was my favorite.

  1. How can they credit a source that is obviously many different people posing as one anonymous lawyer?!

  2. Enty -- You are still and always have been the first one I read every morning! :) We know who gets the best scoop waaaay before the rest of the crowd.

  3. Doesn't matter whether the writer behind the site is anonymous...the Daily News should have given credit to the site itself. Bad journalism.

  4. "The place has been going downhill..." Pot, meet kettle

  5. Musto sucks. He's a Ted C wannabe.
Perez sucks. Just because he does.

I would THINK (and I could be wrong) that an entertainment lawyer would realize that with time and dates on his blinds, it would be easy to prove that content was stolen.

But hey, I don't know Canadian law.

  6. I don't get the headline of the post. The Daily News didn't fire all of it's reporters. And CDaN doesn't ever get to take the moral highroad. You're as fake as J & B.

  7. "Lewd acts with family passports"...what the fuckity-fuck!?!? o.O

  8. NY Daily News has the best sports section in the country. It would be even better if they got rid of that Lupica dwarf.

Lupica's Sunday column sucks and his bed wetting anti gun stance is sickening. Sad part is a few years ago they let Mark Kreigel go, because he wrote a similar style column on Thursdays, and it was getting better reaction, so lil Mikey gots da butthurted. Oh, and lil Mikey did nothing to defend his "good friend" Imus (can't stand him) during the "nappy headed hos" ordeal.

NY Post isn't fit to wipe your ass with. Fuck Rupert Murdoch where he breathes.

  9. At least NY Daily News' website is readable. The NY Post's new website is fucking horrendous.

  10. The NYDN is a rag. I've read it for years growing up in NYC and the way it's gone downhill is atrocious - I had to stop reading.

  11. Ahh, to be fair Count..siding with Imus is the losing side of the coin.
I don't know if you remember but he once made the comment (I believe he was on the air in DC at the time) about Martin Luther King Jr day. He was speaking about how everyone got the day off. Mentioned "Why not shoot 4 more and we'll get the whole week off?"

Wouldn't touch that guy with a ten foot pool. Never found him entertaining anyway, Reminds me of Steve Dahl in Chicago. Boring. That Lauren Hill comment pretty much summed up that he didn't learn a damn thing.

  12. ITA @Count re: the NYDN's sports section. I'm a Yankees fan and get my b-ball news from them. I loved the Subway Squawkers and am still not over the fact that the NYDN ditched them. Are they a rag? Yes, but I've had the past experience of working with the NYDN for several years and they had one of the nicest editorial staffs of any newspaper that I have worked with. The NYPost, not so much. I can confirm that their newsroom is filled with nasty and vile folks. They fucking sucked to work with.

  15. I'm confused. I thought he commited the "lewd act" to a picture of blu ivy but the article says it was beyonce's passport picture. Is this a cover up of some sorts.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Skimpymist, the baby could be in the picture, they usually don't issue babies their own passport.

Also I wanted to point out, this even made it on Drudge's website.

    1. @JoElla- Actually, every American citizen regardless of age gets issues their own passport. The picture would have to contain only the infant as well. They either lay the baby down in a white sheet and take the pic from overhead or if the child is old enough to sit in a car seat they do it that way. :)

Also pardon the grammar and spell errors. Autocorrect lameness and apparently on my phone I can't go back and correct anything because it won't let me type.

  17. @skimpy, the article mentions the familys passport pictures. I guess he used a lot of imagination as those aren't known as the most titillating shots.
This article is proof that Enty can write coherently.

  18. @Bacon Ranch: It isn't like Lil Mikey had to come out and say something stupid like, "Whats wrong? they are nappy headed hos." He could have said something like, "Imus has spent 10's of 1000's of hours on the air with out incident. He got caught up in a moment and said something stupid. Should he be reprimanded, yes. Should he be crucified, no." Or some other kind of statement supporting his "friend" yet admonishing his words.

You sure that wasn't the GreaseMan in DC? I think Imus has been in NYC since the 70's. And Imus is no doubt a horrible person, but he was a horrible person for decades before his comment about the Rutgers women's basketball team, and everyone still kissed his ass.

@Skimpymist: It was a picture of Beyonce that Blue Ivy was in also.

  19. I'm wondering if the prostitute that was mentioned in ENTY's blind talked. The blind said Jay Z paid her off to keep quiet.

  20. We love you best Enty. :)

  21. I thought Musto was out at The Village Voice

    ReplyDelete
  22. Holy cow..I stand corrected Count. It was the Greaseman. I only remember it because I was driving the beltway and he was the only one not in commercial.

The Imus comment was "No wonder they are dragged behind trucks" or some such, right after a man in Texas was dragged to his death.

Hey, speaking of..let's send out the bat signal for timebob and start talking about Stern calling the airline that had a plane that crashed.

  23. You can tell this isn't the "real" Enty because anytime he got scooped in the past he was always like "whatevadafuck" and this Enty sounds piiiiiised off!

  24. Enty, you ought to be glad!! Let JayZ's goons go after THOSE guys, not you!

  25. Oh Brenda. Sweet Brenda.
The original hasn't been here for ages. He outsourced to video and bitter Canadian folks.

  26. The blind does not add up in anyway and just because some kind of story appears in a 'legitimate' tabloid doesn't make the blind true at all. So many holes in the blind and this tabloid story it's crazy. Why are The Carters paying to cover up anything when they have done nothing wrong?? Enty posted the blind in Feb but they only fired the fella a few months ago?? If he was creepy, dangerous - possibly a pedo he should have been fired on the spot, no??? I think it is possible this blind is a cover - or THEY are linking Norman to this blind item to cover something else.

  27. How the hell would Michael Musto be called a Ted C wannabe when he predates Ted C? He was doing his thing at the Village Voice long before there was E! or the internet. People really need to know their gossip history.

    1. I thought Ted C started his BIs in Premiere Mag,late 80's, then E!, mid 90's?
Pls explain their rivalry as I wasn't following the gossip scene before 2000 though. Thx!

  29. Gosh, if Entman is miffy because of this one incident, imagine how the Daily Mail must feel ;)

  30. Amen Bubbles! I guess we're the old ones here.

  31. In my mind, I think of Musto & Ted C from approx same time period, someone else will have to settle it definitively. This is such a weird BI, right?

  32. You're seriously boo hooing about credit? Your fucking disclaimer mentions you make shit up. Get over yourself.

  33. Love your website, Enty! Read it first thing every morning, and it makes my day. Hugs to you...xoxo

  34. Stating the obvious, but...

This site has drastically changed in any number of ways (aside from the continuity of the atrocious punctuation & typos). It used to come from a cohesive & distinct personality w/a variety of quirky likes, dislikes, & interests that were pretty consistent.

There was a delightful lack of interest in reality TV 'stars.' An almost complete ban on things Kar--ian. Columns of photos from rock performances that went on long enough to verge on tedium, yet reflected a sort of endearing enthusiasm; etc.

Now, it seems CDAN is either being authored by "Sybil" in various fugue states, or a faceless staff. Very odd.

But to the writer of this post: IMO, Michael Musto's heyday was in the 1980s. Am showing my age, but that was fun, zesty gossip. The Voice publishes some good articles, but am rarely interested in 21st Century Musto.
