Katy Perry Thought About Suicide After Russell Brand - Suckered Barbara Walters

At the end of 2011 when Russell Brand filed for divorce, Katy Perry says in an interview with Billboard Magazine that she contemplated suicide almost everyday during that period. "I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'"

What I found most interesting about the article was how willing she was to lie to the world about the state of her marriage to Brand. She says that shortly before the divorce announcement she gave an interview to Barbara Walters and told her wonderful everything was at home and how happy the marriage was while knowing that it was going to end up in divorce in very short order. If Barbara knew how to ask a followup question or be tougher she might have got Katy to break down and come clean but Barbara never varied from the questions she was prepared to ask and had approved beforehand because Barbara would never try and upset a celebrity on camera because that would be bad for business.

Katy was hours late to the interview and Barbara never asked about it and never pressed her on it and just let Katy slide right on by. The reason Katy was late was because her marriage was falling apart.

  1. Barbara Walters, Larry King and Oprah are probably the lamest interviewers in the business. And anybody from Fox news when interviewing a Republican.

  2. Eh. Most of us do lie about the state of our lives. Nothing new or shocking about that.

I still can't stand Katy Perry, but I do still have an irrational lady boner for Russell. Glad she seems to have pulled out of her depression. Black Dog is a bitch to live with.

  3. Celebritites may be public figures but that does not mean that they owe us every iota of their private life and I am sure that having a public breakdown on tv while dealing with the breakup of marriage, was not what Katy or anyone else would wish to do. Sometimes the easiest answer is a lie.

  4. Katy Perry always seemed like a cheap commercial huckster who has very little of intelligence or wisdom to give. She's certainly no Laura Nero or Joannie Mitchell. I hope people aren't turning to her for life guidance, or listening to her interviews as if they mattered.

Don't buyher BS.....I understand depression, SERIOUSLY? I don't believe that her and Russell were TJAT connected spiritually that she didn't want to live because it didn't work out. Unlike many of us normal women there was no custodial or financial issues that would make her so despondent that she saw no way out. Sorry Katie, nit buying it.

    2. @fancyscreenname, it surprises me too that her breakup w Russell was that painful, but I don't think too many people would say this kind of thing lightly. She is young and probably was very idealistic about their relationship. I tend to believe her.

@dont rain.....I was careful to add that I did sense that strong of a spiritual connection between then. None of us know them, we are all basing this on interviews and our general feelings for her and thestuff we've been through as women. So I tend not to believe her with this. She doesn't owe me an explanation. Its her life, her life in an item on a gossip site. Money can't solve everything, but ill tell u one thing, if I had a tin of cash and a Vibrant career happening after my breakup, lice would have been exponentially easier to deal with. ;^)

But that's just me and my lil busllshit opinion.

  6. Honestly. How am I supposed to buy that the organizers of this blog knew the state of Katy Perry's marriage? And your beef with Barbara Walters is because she didn't grill Katy Perry about Russell Brand?!?!?! OMG. Seriously?? Journalistic travesties are committed daily in this country about actual IMPORTANT matters: War, education, corruption, our debaucle of a health care system. But, you're pissed about Katy Fucking Perry. Bwahhhhhh.

  8. *sigh* Remember when everybody said that Barbara Walters gave the toughest interviews in town? Was it really ever that, or was it always just an illusion and everybody knew they were going to be asked that "shocking" question so they could prepare an answer? Trying to think whether she ever asked follow-up questions then, either. I didn't pay a lot of attention to BW when I was young. And now that I'm old, there's no point!

  10. What's the worst crime against nature is Enty holding Hollywood stars and reporters to the same moral standards of everyday people and lesser reporters. These people get famous for a reason...they do what they are told.

  13. If my marriage was failing, and it was stressful and emotional, and maybe I was being emotionally abused, lied to, etc...and I had an interview w Barbara Walters I would lie, too.

Why on earth would anyone expect her to go to the interview and spill her immediate, presently happening life problems? No regular person would do that, at a party, or a job interview. She is not required to tell everyone that her marriage is on the rocks.

She said, yes, everything is great. So what.

And she is still young. When I was her age I was a mess.

And I think she may well have been suicidally depressed. Fame money and notoriety don't magically heal people's wounds and unhealthy patterns.

Hopefully she has a good therapist

  14. Fuck sake. What did Katt ever do to yoy people? Russell totally blindsided her. She's young and they had that fast and furious connection that didn't last on his side. He couldn't handle her being so much more successful than him.

  16. So what if Katy didn't feel like divulging her private life. IF Baba was still the interviewer she used to be she may have gotten something better out of that interview. She's just an ass kisser these days.

Melancholy - What writer called depression The Black Dog? I forget.

I clutch my pearls! "Firecracker" is my mantra! Perry is a deep hole of wisdom. She's a void of consciousness and insight!

Perry doesn't bother me as much as "honest" Brand lying point blank to Ellen about how wonderful his wife was. For some reason, Brandt got this "honest" sticker attached to him when he is anything but.

  18. Katie perry's job when being interviewed is to present only the news she wants to. Barbara walter's job is NOT to force people to reveal personal info they dont want to. I dont have a problem with either of them. These are not hard hitting interviews; its show business.

  19. Prada - Sometimes CDAN touches on "real" news topics, don't ya think?

I'm not outraged. I just think it's interesting that whoever wrote this post thinks a celebrity is going to be completely truthful during an interview with Barbara Walters, nonetheless.

  20. Reno I agree. I think she really was blindsided by the end of her marriage.

And Cee Kay, I am old enough to remember when she actually did do tough interviews. And when she was actually good at her job.

  21. Katy is a bloody idiot and a horrible role model for her tweener female fans. "Waah I'm rich and famous and go to awards shows and parties and my fans worship me but I don't have a man so I want to die." Nice.

Weren't they only married for a year or so anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  22. BS. Weren't they married for about a hot minute? No way was she "suicidal" after that douche left her. She moved right on and started dating.
