Blind Item #9 - Kindness
This B-/C+ list mostly television actress has been as high as a B when she was starring on that huge network television monster hit. Since then she has worked here and there and has been on a hit show but it was premium cable so not that many people watched. Anyway she used to travel extensively and with an ex, visited a town in Africa and met with some women there who said there was no school because they could not afford to pay for a teacher. Our actress has been paying the entire salaries for two teachers for five years now and also paid for a new school to be built and computers and internet. She has done it all herself and has not asked for any other help or contributions.
Kudrow
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny, Lisa Kudrow's the first name that popped into my head, too!
ReplyDeleteThank god for her, whoever she is.
ReplyDeleteSame argument different day. Why are the people that are in desperate need of help in the US always overlooked?
ReplyDeleteEva Longoria as much as it pains me to say it.
ReplyDeleteHow about someone from Dallas or Dynasty?
ReplyDeleteI applaud the actress's generosity, but if this effort is to be sustainable, she needs to bring in additional help (other funders, an aid organization, etc.) Sadly, "Santa Claus" development projects tend to end badly.
ReplyDeleteAlso - Human need is more important than borders. There is no town in the USA that is so poor it doesn't have a school!
Show me a town in the US that doesn't have a school. That's why.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how "poor" an American thinks he/she is, there are people who are truly poor in other countries who need the help more than any American.
whomever this is, God bless her!
ReplyDelete@Sadie, obviously its much cheaper to pay 2 teachers salaries in africa than it is here.
ReplyDeleteand seriously, why find any negative in such a lovely act.
Exactly-I went on safari in the Masaai Mara and visited a school there. They have next to nothing! I knew about it in advance and took them 500 pencils, and I now sponsor two students. Room, board and schooling is £25 each per month. That wouldn't cover a day in either the US or the UK
ReplyDeleteGillian Anderson.
ReplyDeleteWhorver is doing it, it is wonderful of them.
ReplyDeleteShe was on a "hit" premium show, but no one watched it? Uh...
ReplyDeleteI'll go with Kudrow too.
Well, Friends had something like 50 million viewers for its series finale. No matter how good any cable show, is it's not getting that number of eyeballs.
ReplyDeleteWhoever it is she's fantastic..
ReplyDeleteIf it was Lisa, it makes sense because with her Friends money plus the syndication money this would probably be nothing. The rating also worked because while she had massive recognition, she probably couldn't have opened a large movie on her own, where people did try to get Eva movie parts. (I remember Eva did some host-revenge comedy)
ReplyDeleteFor ones saying it's not sustainable...she's been doing it for five years now!
ReplyDeleteEliza Dushku

There is always someone or several folks on a story like this that complains about 'why are we helping Africa when so many are in need in the US." Having been to African and Asian schools and developments--they are more poor than the poorest in the US. Furthermore they are so grateful for the smallest gift. They also know that education is their way out of poverty and they don't take it for granted. A Kenyan I worked with told me he and others in his village walked/ran ten miles to school each way every day that they could to get their education. Sometimes it seems like American kids can't walk two blocks. I'd far rather give my hard earned money and time and effort to someone who really appreciates it!
ReplyDeletebut Lisa Kudrow married in 1995..right after Friends started, so the "ex" thing doesn't pan out.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she visited with Conan.
ReplyDeleteI think this is great, however, if anyone really thinks that no one is "that poor" here in the U.S, I'm afraid they're misinformed. Dollar per dollar you may be right, but the cost of living is so different that it's not a fair comparison.
ReplyDeleteFor example, there are hundreds of people, actual families, living underneath Vegas in concrete tunnels. No utilities, no sewer, nada. Google it. Not just Vegas, either. Foreign newspapers often run stories about the desperately poor people in this country, which is how I've become educated on the subject, if anyone is interested.
Minka Kelly?
ReplyDeleteThe Pery Westmore chick from Devious Maids.
ReplyDeleteThere are tons of pictures of her in Africa atm.
Been lucky enough to travel to many countries around the world, and IMO, improving the lives of ANYONE, ANYWHERE, is a great thing. You discuss semantics, but isn't that all there is is, at the end of the day? Kudos, to whomever this is, not Lisa Kudrow, BTW.
ReplyDeleteI thought Kudrow too, but she doesn't have an ex.
ReplyDeleteYet.
If someone wants to help overseas- lovely. If they prefer to help in their own country- lovely. Let's not criiticize someone who gives their time and money to help.
ReplyDeleteBesides, it's possible to help in a far away land AND in your own backyard as well. It doesn't have to be either/or.
It's Eliza Dushku from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. BeckyMae already linked to the proof up there ^^^^
ReplyDelete@geminigirl.....kudos for your kindness.
ReplyDeleteI heart this big time.
ReplyDeleteLisa Kudrow with Conan as the ex.
ReplyDeleteUm, Lisa Kudrow wasn't B list at her height, she was A list. Friends was huge. So unless Enty is messing up the ratings again (Kate Winslet being B has forever made me doubt), this can't be her.
ReplyDeleteIt's Laura Prepon. Ex boyfriend is Chris Masterson. I thought "that huge network show" was a clue for That 70s Show. She's on a show on Netflix.
