Blind Item #1

One half of this almost A list country music duo is getting ready for what could be a very bad month. Two Halloweens ago the celebrity/singer dressed in blackface for his costume. He thought it was really funny at the time and should be grateful there are only photos and not audio or video of him saying what he was saying that night about black people that his people are trying to buy as quickly as possible.

  4. this is why I don't listen to country music and wouldn't know a country duo if my life depended on it

  5. I'm guessing Tim McGraw with Faith Hill, since they are always coked up, supposedly, maybe he didn't know what he was saying!

  7. I can't believe some of the comments on here that are as prejudicial as any ever heard from the African American community. To totally condemn a whole genre of music in a few words is so narrow minded and bigoted. This is arrogance personified. "I don't listen to country music", so? Big deal, I don't listen to opera, but I don't consider myself superior to people who do.

  9. And, BTW, how could you possibly know that Tim McGraw and Faith are "coked up" all the time. Do you even know them? I think not.

  26. Opera was basically the country music of its day. It was **popular** music. It wasn't designed for the pompous fools who listen to it now.

It would be pretty funny if, say, 200 years from now all the would-be elitists are listening to Charlie Pride and Patsy Cline and looking down their nose at whatever the popular music of 2213 might be.

    1. Yeah but Nutty if they are listening to Charlie and Patsy they have every right to look down their noses. That there is what I would deem good Country music. Hopefully they'll add Johnny Cash to their playlist as well. Thinking about it the list could certainly expand. Just my opinion.

  34. When I was fresh out of college, I had a roommate who loved the opera. She had no money, in fact, she was the first welfare child in our state to complete college. She volunteered for a job as usher so she could attend the Lyric Opera performances for free, when the told her she needed to wear all black, she went to a cheap store and shoplifted a belt and a pair of shoes.

In no way was she a pompous idiot.

I'm born and raised Texan. I loathe old country (Cline/Waylon/ Hank Williams) and love new country (Chesney/Urban/Faith Hill/Dixie chicks).

  43. Lol....not shocking. I like some Country music because unlike pop artists they actually can sing.

last week hip hop was generalized as violent music, now we have country music being generalized as racist. Some country artists are racist and label honchos are indeed racist. ....but not all.

Although it is faster to stereotype, it is only faster because it requires less critical thinking and information gathering skills. Which IMO basically means people that frequently stereotype are just lazy stupid bastards.

That's my two cents....anyways back to the playlist....lol

I don't really like the twangy stuff but most of it is good. I appreciate all the old school country like Johnny And the others that built the legacy.

Merle Haggard (what Hank Williams could have been, had he lived)
    Emmylou Harris

Steve Earle (early stuff, now he's more rock or bluegrass)
Lyle Lovett (hugely talented singer and songwriter)
    Gram Parsons

    Charley Pride

  48. I lean more to alt country/southern rock but to call the country fan base "generally racist" is just bigoted and moronic.

I really hope it's not Blake; wouldn't be surprised if it were that Montgomery guy.

I've never heard Accidental Racist but I've seen the lyrics and can't imagine WTF those two were thinking. Aren't managers supposed to keep stars from making horrible mistakes like this?

  49. I have no real complaints w/ the playlists. I am happy to see Harth was a joke and that Kenny Rogers and Kris Kristopherson were not mentioned. And as sad ad it makes me, Charlie Daniels bible thumpin/lyric changung ass.

I would like to include Alabama though. It has been sometime, but I recall atleast 2 albums I really enjoyed.

I would also like to add if any one is seeking out Willie Nelson material, the man is at his finest when doing a duet. I can get stoned and listen to Seven Spanish Angels for hours.

  50. People who don't know about country music assume that all of its listeners are good old boy racists just sitting around with our hoods starched and ironed. In case you don't know country music from the Appalachians and the Ozarks was to poor white people what the blues was to the poor black people of the Mississippi Delta. Poor black and white people have always shared a bond of poverty and desperation We lived on the same side of the tracks and music was one of the only ways we had for relief from the bad times. Johnny Cash knew, so did Charley Pride from Sledge, MS. located right in the MS Delta. The shacks they lived in were no more than dog pens. So please, Country music and the Blues are two of the most genuine music genres we have. Ask BB and Merle and Loretta. Sorry about the sermon.

  51. Nice sermon Southerner09. The entomology of music (probably the wrong word) can be connected to jazz and rock and so on and so forth. Add in Tejano and all music from different regions and it's an amazing lesson on culture and sound. Every culture from time immemorial has created music. It's truly the universal language.
