Porn Star Hookers
The NY Post has an interesting article today which talks about Richard Nanula, who used to be the chairman of the board at Miramax. He had to step down in July because his secret life caught up with him. See, it would be fine if you are an actor or writer or director to have sex with porn stars for money and tape them all, but when you are the chairman of the company that hires the actors and directors and writers then you have to go. This guy was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on hookers, but was afraid he would get caught so he started hiring porn stars for shoots and would tape them and then have the tapes posted to a website that was run by a porn star friend of his. This made everything legal. No one could see the tapes on the site, but somehow thedirty.com got one of them and the guy had to resign and now can't find work. He should become an actor, because this is Charlie Sheen's life everyday.
I only heard of one video going live on a website, for a short time, and that was because an agent or porn star questioned the validity of the bull shit story.
ReplyDeleteOne of the tip offs that it was a shady transaction going down was that his STD test was from a private Dr. and not from one of the 2 industry testing facilities.

this article makes my brain hurt. i dont understand what the hell was going on.
ReplyDelete@Sweetstarshine: Nanula was scared of getting busted hiring hookers so he found a porn whore to be an in, and he started hiring porn whores for fake shoots. When this came to light, he was fired from Miramax.
ReplyDeleteI get he likes porn and hookers, but when its to the exclusion of everything else, you may have a problem. Moderation people, moderation.
ReplyDeleteI had to read the original article to understand it, but basically it sounds like he was hiring porn stars to have sex with him on film. He got busted when the films were made public due to one of the porn stars insisting on it. So, this really isn't anything at all like Charlie Sheen hiring prostitutes. It's about a movie executive being in porn movies...I think.
ReplyDeleteEverything's legal? Who gives a crap. And I'm sure he'll find himself a nice gig, not that he needs to work for the rest of his life.
ReplyDeleteOh please. People have done things as bad as or way worse than this and found work again doing something. (David Vitter ... Mel Gibson .. ) Funny how he's a guy of color and the Post is saying THIS will end all career prospects for him. Hmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteHe's a guy of color?!! Huh
DeleteHe Sure Looks White To me.
DeleteIf you pay a woman to have sex with you it is a criminal act, prostitution, and you and she can be jailed. If you pay a woman to have sex with you in a porn movie it is "artistic expression" protected by the Constitution and generally neither you nor her are subject to criminal charges. The problem is that simply filming an act of prostitution does not qualify as "artistic expression" and therefore both participants are subject to criminal charges (this is because you paid her to have sex with you whereas an amateur boyfriend/girlfriend sex tape isn't criminal because the participants weren't paid). To get around that technicality you have to publicly distribute the film, via theaters or internet, in order to show that you were making a "legitimate" porn film (i.e. with the intention of making money from it rather than just achieving personal satisfaction). Apparently after this gentlemen "shot" his performances he did not try to distribute the resulting films. A porn actress appearing in one of the films demanded that it be distributed, presumably in order to ensure she could not be charged with prostitution. The gentleman arranged for a friend with a porn website to briefly show the film in order to deal with this problem. Unfortunately someone in the industry identified him from the film and his business career was over.
ReplyDeleteOf course what he did was a crime. As were Vitter's acts, and those of other people (Hugh Grant, etc.) who eventually resumed some semblance of a career. And if they got through it, why not this guy? It's funny what the Post chooses to concentrate on when it chooses to.
ReplyDeletePost is a joke anyway
DeleteNo mask? He's in the film industry and couldn't get his hand on a prosthetic nose and fake moustache? ((A Jimmy durante nose & Groucho Marx moustache---in my head, of course--tehehehe))
ReplyDeleteEither he's self destructive or has no common sense. Some people have 10lbs of one and 10oz of the other. Not all people have a working amount of both.
Possibly what he did would be fraud, but it isn't solicitation or prostitution. Maybe an ordinance violation for shooting in LA w/o a permit. I think this all preceded Measure B passing so condoms wouldn't be required.

IMO the fact that he's a man of color is inconsequential. Men survive these types of scandals all the time. If he's made sufficient contacts within his industry he should b fine as far as employment. Hopefully his job has a strong BRO'S b4 HOES clause.
ReplyDelete@figgy He is bi-racial.
ReplyDeleteThis is not much of a story to sleb gossip fans who don't get the biz side biz. Here is the LA Times link to the story

I doubt this will kill his career. Did not kill Mike DeLuca's

FYI xxx = blow job in the above link
@Flora: Holy crap, busting out a Luke Ford link. Never expected one of them on CDAN.
ReplyDeleteI am just amazed at the arrogance and stupidity of this man. Dude, you're black so obviously you have to watch what you're doing and then to ruin it all over a bunch of skanky white girls. Black men never ruin their lives over skanky or classy Black girls, but skanky white ones....bring em on.
