Blind Items Revealed

January 25, 2007

Speaking of addictions, this B-list hunk was moving steadily up the fame ladder, but his battle with meth and alcohol effectively stopped him in his tracks for almost a year. When he emerged from rehab, he thought things would pick up right where he left them, but this is not the case. Studios were already starting to forget him, so now he is forced to fight and audition for indie roles which he thought he had done away with for good. He did manage to get one indie role, but it looks like it is headed straight to video and our actor may be headed back to rehab.

Joaquin Phoenix

  1. That's so sad. And not just because he's sooo cute.

  2. He was so good in Walk the Line. Sad.

  3. And I totally believe this, too. My auntie saw him at 7-11 one night buying Jolly Ranchers. You CANNOT tell me that isn't a sure sign of a man spiraling out of control.

    1. It's a slippery slope from syzzurp to meth.

  4. Things seem to have picked back up for him since this blind.

  5. Why is Joaquin Phoenix having such a hard time. He has proven talent and an Academy Award nomination, when we are unable to escape Lindsay Lohan. She's been in and out of rehab, accused of theft and continues to stumble around and occupy inordinate amount of press space. And she's still getting cast?

  6. He's working with PT Anderson and Spike Jonze now. Great comeback.

Didn't Lainey and Ted C. claim that he was on heroin not meth?

  7. I always got the feeling he didn't have to act much in 8mm.

My fave non horror movie boogey men

    1. I'm so out of the loop. Do they crush that into cold medicine to make meth now? .

      I'm getting sick of tweakers.

He is such a good actor. Shame

  10. @Showbiz Junkie, yeah, but Lindsay is getting cast in exploitation roles. She's a woman, and can always show some flesh.

Joaquin - Leaf- Phoenix hurt a lot of feelings in Hollywood with his fake rap career. I agree he's a huge talent, however, and would have rather seen him as Gatsby than Leonardo, the safe choice. As a matter of fact, I would rather have seen him in a lot of Leonardo's roles. A much more interesting choice.

  11. @DocP

    You betcha...

The movie was most likely Reservation Road, which also co-starred Jennifer Connelly, a young (well, younger) Elle Fanning, Mark Ruffalo, Mira Sorvino, and John Slattery (Roger Sterling in Mad Men).

Since then, he's had three projects with James Gray, he's the lead in Spike Jonze's Her, which may be a contender for the big awards, he was the lead in The Master and the next Paul Thomas Anderson film which features almost half of all Hollywood actors.
If you can get that on alcohol and meth, I'd sure take the same stuff as him.

  12. it's how the Hollywood machine works. there is always a surplus of young good looking men trying to get those parts. just how it goes. he's not as young and pretty as he once was. not saying the pretty boys can act as well as he can. just that they get noticed first.

  13. his sister's loving healed him

  15. Having watched The Master the other day I was a bit disappointed after all the hype, maybe I need to watch it again. PSH is great though. Was Joaquin just acting out of focus or does that come naturally after years of meth and heroin. couldn't understand what he was saying at times.

I loved him in Walk the Line but that was one weird performance in The Master- it did not seem to fit in the context IMO so it kept throwing me off and found the ending disappointing. That is just me perhaps.

The reality is though if he is not clean now it is getting harder and more expensive to insure actors with "issues" unless you can get a third party to cover the liability if that actor overdoses in the middle of production or causes delays due to their habits and the production company has to incur extra costs to complete the film and if the actor is the lead, you may not be able to finish the film at all. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Tina: I LOVE Phillip, and loathe Scientology (research L.Ron Hubbard & alistair Crowley) but I found that movie hard work! It was boring!

  16. He is a really nice guy in person but a rabid chain smoking vegan..hope he stays on the straight and narrow.

  17. If you research the phoniex's backround, what with cult, childhood sex abuse and daffy ass parents, he's got a ton of shit to work thru.

  18. You would think after watching his brother die he would be scared straight. I like him. Hope he finds happiness.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This was also from six years ago so who knows if he still using or clean.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think his character was supposed to be out of sorts in The Master.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think he's the most talented actor in Hollywood. LOVED the Mater and can't wait for Her(?).

    ReplyDelete
  22. Can't wait to see Her. Potential for genius.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I recently saw The Master also and thought it was art reflecting life. He looked so thin and terrible and seemed messed up even outside of the character. I thought him and Seymour Phillip Hoffman were probably doing drugs together.

    ReplyDelete
  24. What a stupid fuck- bad gene pool in that family I guess- already one dead from drugs. That would be awake up call for anyone else but this dumbass.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I used to suck on Jolly Ranchers like cock when I was on smack - totally gets rid of the gutter-mouth when you're snorting anything. Works for blow too.

Watching his brother OD would, if anything, drive him to try to block it out. Double down with the messed-up sh*t that comes along with the Children of God & hippie parents that buy into ANY part of it & it's amazing he's even functioning most days.

  26. I still miss River.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I miss river too and I hate people squandering their talents but whatever

    ReplyDelete
  28. He's one of those celebs I have a soft spot for. Grew up in a cult, most likely sexually abused(River admitted to being abused), father was an alcoholic and he watched his brother die. I can't hate on him.

  29. I love Joaquin! I wish he and Liv would've made it work. I was interested in them as a couple.

P.S. My favorite Joaquin moment SPACE CAMP...Max friends forever!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Joaquin is INCREDIBLY TALENTED! Incredibly talented. His talent could make him an A-Lister if he had a few less demons, or they were more traditional demons like sex fiend. His demons are River, and if that supposed BI is right, the one about his sister Rainbow having her hooks in him.

  33. I'm surprised there is so much love for him here. I have never liked him. I think he hunches and mumbles his way through movies.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i know he had huge alcohol problems around 2003 and if he was so skinny in THE MASTER then it's because his character is skinny in the script

  35. 2007. This blind is from 2007. Joaquin Phoenix IS incredibly talented and commenters need to recognize this blind is from six (?) years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This makes me sad. I have a soft spot for him, too. He's so, so talented.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why are you guys saying its a shame and all that? This is a blind from 2007.

Obviously he's worked on his addictions and have prevailed against them thus far with all the work he's done since the blind was posted.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That sounds about right with the insider gossip, circa 2007. It appears, he has pushed past it fairly well. Better than his Master co-star, PSH. He's still struggling. Hard.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Master freaked me out for days! He and PSH were amazingly psychotic in that. It was frightening. So much psycho in one movie!!!!

  40. I have a soft spot for JP. Those eyes.

    What's wrong with Indi films?
My beloved feline just jumped on my lap for smooches & cuddles. He gets freshly cooked chicken breast for dinner, and opposed to popular belief (aka crazy Mona), he had never been, and never will be fisted.
