If doctors have their way and the court goes along with keeping Amanda Bynes' mom as conservator, then Amanda can look forward to spending the holiday season drugged up in the UCLA hospital as doctors want to keep her there until at least the new year. I want Amanda Bynes to get better, but I also wonder whether she can just take her meds outside the hospital environment and live her life. If she is on meds, she will probably decide she wants to act again and being gone for almost six months plus the six months she was retired is going to hurt her a lot. No one has even seen her since she went into the hospital except for her rare under blanket appearances. The cynic in me wonders if doctors want to keep her in the hospital that long because she has such great medical insurance that doesn't run out until January.

ReplyDeleteUmm, she clearly has needed help and the doctors need time to decide which meds work best for her. This is one of the best hospitals in the country and they know what they are doing.

ReplyDeleteClearly Enty doesn't know much about the mentally ill. Sure, she may be okay (or close to it, anyway) as long as she takes her meds. The trouble is that a lot of mentally ill people decide to stop taking them the first chance they get. I've seen this happen dozens, maybe hundreds of times.
ReplyDeleteI was against and derided Britney's being under a conservatorship at first. Figured it was just her family trying to keep their hooks in their gravy train. But with a very big percentage of mentally ill people, if they aren't under constant supervision, if there isn't someone who has the authority to put their butt right back in the hospital if necessary, they get off the meds as soon as they can. Some suicide (which I, for one, think should be legal). A very few hurt or kill other people. Tens of thousands of them end up as part of the permanent homeless population.
Needless to say, my views on this have changed. I think Bynes' and Spears' parents are just trying to keep their kids alive in the only way available to them.
Enty you idiot people with her condition are NOTORIOUS for stopping their meds because they think they are better. She should be under supervision until she realizes she has to take her meds all the time. This isnt breaking your leg and recovering at home- this is a serious, serious condition that requires a lot of montoring and care. Its one of the hardest medical conditions you could have. Stick to what you know, which is gossip, and leave your terrible medical advice in your fat ass head cause you sound stupid.

I am sure the medical insurance is part of the reason for keeping her in the hospital.I think there are alot of psychiatrists that are abusing the system and it is so hard to know if a doctor is good or bad.Try getting the correct treatment for a loved one and you will see there are so many bad psychiatrists. Treatment by them consists of a 5 minute chat each day and they don't do complete evaluations on a timely basis. There is potential for lots of abuse with no one finding out.
ReplyDeleteThere's potential for abuse but any health insurance company worth a damn is going to demand medical records after a certain time period documenting the severity of the disease, the need for continued hospitalization, and if the patient could be just as well cared for in a lesser setting. There are trained doctors and nurse in the health insurance companies that review the records and make the determination whether continued hospitalization is truly needed. I'm sure Amanda's treatment is medically justified.

It has been clear for quite some time with the complete lack of fact checking or providing of links to any actual stories that most posts are devised to increase traffic. Krikey before you can get a couple of sentences in I already realize that most are inaccurate at best.
Have to admit I do enjoy reading the responses. Many of these posts Enty does I have already read elsewhere (as usually do many others who post here) so I already know Enty is wrong. It is highly amusing to see comments from posters who are taking issue with the 'facts' Enty has provided when they are blatantly false or ridiculous.

That is an incredibly long time to stay in the hospital. I know people who have tried to commit suicide (legitimate attempts in which they almost died, not threats) and they didn't stay in the hospital half that long.

WTF is wrong with you Enty? I am so highly offended by your comment I can't even begin to imagine where your brain is. UCLA is one of the better hospitals for the care of mental illness and those that are treated there are well taken care of.
ReplyDeleteDo you have ANY freaking idea how hard it is to get a person regulated on a dosage on medication for schizophrenia? Much less finding the right one or if they need more than one!! It can take months and then once you have that you have to get them stabilized to where you can start therapy and work with them and get them used to taking their meds on their own. Many are resistant and fight as they feel they don't need meds and it is a nightmare and they are masters of palming their meds, hiding meds in their cheeks and such so as to not take them and with those they have had to learn to watch and make them take the meds in front of them. Those that "cheeked" the meds have to open their mouths and "show" and then drink and swallow and then show again.
What Enty also doesn't seem to realize also is many schizophrenics also suffer from bi-polar disorder also which makes things even more difficult for the person and the people who love them.
It is August now and they are saying she could get out in Jan which is 4 months and honestly that isn't bad for what she is suffering through! My son has been in as much as 6 at a time!!! This disease is not something that you can put a band-aid on and say oh you are cured go make a movie or whatever, she will suffer from it the rest of her life!
You constantly are making snide remarks about her and Britney and their families and you know NOTHING and what it takes to be a guardian or the mentally ill!

Since deinstitulization in the 70s, long term inpatient psychiatric care is rare. It probably is in her best interest, but I find it odd. As odd as Britney's guardianship. Ninety year olds with dementia who drive the wrong way on the turnpike have more rights than these two.
