Kidd Kraddick Had An Enlarged Heart

Although toxicology results won't be in for a few more days to a week, preliminary autopsy results into the death of the popular morning show radio personality show that he had an enlarged heart and that he had 40-80% blockage in all his arteries which probably led to an irregular heartbeat and his death on Saturday in New Orleans during a charity golf tournament. The coroner said the conditions Kraddick had at the time of his death could very well have led to his collapse. I think people want it to be the heart and not find out he was on some kind of drugs and have their image of him ruined.

  1. Seriously? Toxicology won't be out for a while but why not go ahead and brand this man a drug addict? That's disgusting.

  2. Enty does not do editorializing very well. He should just state the gossip and leave off the personal asides.

  3. Another example that being a douche pays and having a big heart kills.

  4. I wish some of the commenters would also follow this advice. I'm not a prude, but reading some people's posts about their sexual experiences/fantasies/etc really makes me want to bleach my brain! Please find a porn blog and let this site just be about gossip!

  7. Billy Mays also died of cardiomyopathy/cardiomegaly (reduced heart function/enlarged heart), and in his case, the cause of the enlarged heart was attributed to cocaine use. There can be other causes for an enlarge heart, and I think all Enty's saying is we hope this is because of one of those reasons and not drug-induced, but we won't know until toxiclogy reports are out (or he may be hinting that he already knows/suspects).

  8. True, a family member of mine died of an enlarged heart due to years of drug abuse.

  11. I am seeing an exercise physiologist to see if I can get my weight down, and she was telling me that they have done research and weight is not the defining characteristic for health. What you eat and your exercise routine are much more important. Unless your weight is causing health issues they don't look at it as the be all and end all. Also, there is a term skinny fat, where a person is naturally thin but doesn't take care of themselves so often have a lot of health issues that aren't diagnosed. Hopefully if any good comes out of this it is for people to go and get a yearly physical.

  12. I have high blood pressure and I'm only 109lbs. It can happen to anyone! Mine is due to a french fry addiction.

  13. It works the other way too. I'm technically obese, but my blood pressure, cholesterol and heart are all in excellent shape and I get regular checkups to make sure they stay that way. I know I need to lose weight, but I'm somewhat reassured that I probably won't have a coronary any time soon.

  14. Why bring up drugs? There has never been a suspicion that Kidd Kraddick was doing drugs?. Seems cheap and sleazy.

Also to the "never heard of this guy," commenter, Kraddick was one of the most popular, most listened to radio dj's in the country for the last nearly 30 years. It doesn't make you cooler to not know this.

  15. He supposedly exercised regularly.

Insofar as the drugs, it is pretty well known that he took Adderall for ADD for quite some time and decided to go off it 3 or 4 years ago. At the time he commented how difficult it was to give it up. I'm not saying he was using anything now.

Also, the coroner reported that they were doing toxicology tests and are waiting for results for a definitive cause of death.

Having said all of that, he was a good man with a huge heart and whatever he did or didn't die of doesn't change that. Those of us who welcomed him into our lives for years, and feel like he was part of our larger circle of friends, will mourn that his life was cut short and celebrate the legacy he was able to leave behind.

  16. Isn't toxicology a normal part of autopsy?

  17. Kidd Kraddick passing has really hurt my heart. I have listened to his show forever. The kind of man he was was evident in the relationship he had with the co-stars of his show and was also evidenced by the work he did with his foundation. What a great loss, gone too soon.

  18. He tried to get off adderall. He wasn't off of it. Adderall is not illegal...it's a prescribed drug and he was very open about taking it. So if his enlarged heart is attributed to years of adderall use, it should bring attention to the problem of long term use of adderall and should in no way besmirch his image.

  19. Yes it is CanadianMiss

Lola I totally agree. It was very surreal yesterday morning hearing is voice on the radio, (alarm clock) knowing he passed away.

He was huge in the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex way before going national. Word would have gotten out if he was up to no good (Us Texans love to gossip!) Word would have leaked out a long time ago.

I spent countless hours being stuck in traffic on my way to work listening to him, and when we moved to the central part of the state, every school day, he was the voice that woke us all up before school.

And skinny 'healthy looking' people can have heart disease and not even know it. Sadly it happens all the time.

He did a lot of good in his life, and many of us cried on the way to work or school when he would have profile pieces on some of "Kidd's Kids" and like I said, many of us shared our mornings with him daily. He truly will be missed by many.

  20. Kidd's passing has affected me a lot. I have not listened to the show for a while but listened to him growing up in the DFW metroplex. Yesterday I listened to a internet show from another local dj. He said that Kidd was a big smoker so that is probably why he had heart issues.

  22. Heart blockage and cholesterol can also be genetic. The heat could've played a factor as well. New Orleans in the summer ain't no time to be playing golf.

  23. Supposedly he was a chain smoker that asked people to not take pictures of him while he was smoking, as he didn't want to set a bad example.

  24. Amy Slinger- ditto

And really, IF he was on drugs, that doesn't take away from the amazing guy he was. Drugs don't make you evil.

  25. And its okay to not know who he is or listen to his radio show. He seemed to have a good heart and if you're attached to him great. I didn't care for his radio show but it's still sad he died.

  26. I am really not liking the cynical Enty these days. Perhaps the guy was just generally unhealthy like MOST of the people in this country. Why cast aspersions about toxicology reports when he obviously had a very sick heart?

  27. If he was a heavy smoker, that does increase plaque buildup in the arteries around the heart. Sort of OT, but: Has anyone else seen the public service announcement on TV of a [deceased] 34-year-old smoker's aorta being squeezed and a lot of glop coming out? The commercial is disgusting, but without a comparison to a non-smoker's aorta, I don't know how much of a departure from "normal" all that build-up is. (My mom was a nurse and used to bring home horrible pictures of smoker's lungs, skin, tongues, etc (of the pamphlet variety, not her patients), compared to "healthy" tissue, and that was effective deterrent for us!)
