This former A+ list celebrity/actor has slid a long way down the list ladder in the intervening years. Still popular, but generally with an older crowd, although most young people know at least a few of his early works very well. Actually with the older crowd he still sells out lots of places. At a recent show, our former A lister looked wasted and there was a woman a wheelchair trying to give him a gift and he kept ignoring her. She said "I have something for you." He said "I've got something for you and I'd like to sing some more songs." He also told people to stop shouting while he was singing.
David Cassidy
I had my 1st preteen she boner to this guy back in 71. What an ass. Still on my Ipod!
ReplyDeleteI think most tween girls hang posters of male stars to remind their parents they are growing up. It's almost always cherubic non-threatening men with great hair and rounded features (not male-looking in the traditional sense.)
ReplyDeleteIn the 70s, it was Cassidy, in the 90s, my niece had Leo D. on her wall; today, I imagine it's Bieber.
wait...we're doing blind reveals on david fucking cassidy??? LMAOOOOOO Am I the only one who is finding these blinds hysterical today?
ReplyDeleteI loved Keith Partridge back in the day, but I found out that David Cassidy is an ass when I heard him in an interview saying he finally "forgave" his father for dying in a fire and fucking up David's life.
ReplyDeleteHe was basically my mom's version of Bieber, right?
ReplyDeleteI saw him a few years ago in Vegas (I think). Everyone kept shouting "I Think I Love You". But he wanted to do other stuff. (Including original stuff that people were practically falling asleep to). You could tell he was gritting his teeth, trying to be a different kind of artist. People go to see him because he was the lead singer for the Partridge Family (omg!). Sad he can't just enjoy that. When he finally sang the songs we all remembered, the audience went nuts.
ReplyDeleteI like that his daughter (Katie Cassidy) is getting more work.
ReplyDeleteI loved her in "Harper's Island" and now she's in "Arrow". She was also in "Supernatural".
Every time I see her, I see more Shawn Cassidy (whom I had a crush on, not the uglier brother David).
I loved "harpers island"!
DeleteI remember partridge family, and know David has had drinking issues off & on for years.....
ReplyDeletebut you know gratitude is one thing but being locked into something that you did at 20 for 40+ years is another. I'm not saying what he did was right OR wrong but....
thats a pretty brief description in the blind and minus a lot of detail.
Who gives a flying fuck?
ReplyDeleteI always preferred his half brother, Shaun. ;) He wrote a song called " Audrey" and I thought that was the coolest thing!

ReplyDeleteI liked David when I was a kid watching The Partridge Family. However, I remember the exact moment David thought he was cool and helped to destroy whatever chance he had of being and growing as an 'artist'. He used to be peppy and fun when singing the songs, then one episode came on where David was being 'too cool for the room' while singing the song and my nine year old brother said, "oh jeeze, the idiot thinks he's cool now."
ReplyDeleteThe following weeks, same darn thing. David singing like he was too cool for the room. We began watching other shows instead because it was kinda painful watching someone who took themselves waaaaay too seriously.
Problem with David Cassidy is that he demanded the audience revere him, but really didn't do anything to earn that reverence. He showed up at gigs expecting that people would give him total respect and admiration for whatever he chose to do on stage. It doesn't work that way. He didn't secure a new audience, and he didn't truly work to develop an image outside of being on The Partridge Family.
Donny Osmond was stuck in a similar trap and he worked it. He went on to do Broadway shows etc. and was grateful for whatever was given to him. Unlike sulky David.
Saw him at a casino a couple years ago, and hate all you want, but that man looks DAMN GOOD for his age.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the place was full of crazy, obsessive Partridge Family fans, and they were rather scary. One guy in line behind us had brought a Partridge Family game he wanted signed, and got really, really angry when he realized he wouldn't get near Keith. Freaked me out, and I wasn't even the target of his wrath.
As to David "forgiving" his father, didn't his father pass out drunk and accidentally start the fire that killed him? If so, I could see why David would be angry at him.
I had a big fat crush on him back in the day. Then I read his autobiography. Wow, what an over-inflated ego! Ungrateful "poor me" victim jerk. Claims he and he alone invented the pukka shell necklace. What a tool.
ReplyDeleteI think young girls like the effeminate guys because theyre non threatening, it's like a man with training wheels.
ReplyDeleteI saw him in December and he did something similar to another fan. It was a big turn-off and made me sad for that fan, who was Of a Certain Age and had probably been a fan for eons. He DOES take himself WAAAAY too seriously and thinks he's still the shit. He still looks pretty good, though -- even though his face is pulled a wee bit too tight -- and he still sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMet him once when I worked at QVC... Douche

ReplyDeleteI used to see him at the newspaper store in downtown Fort Lauderdale, he is so short and that red hair makes him look more like Danny Bonaduce...he reeked of alcohol, paid for my newspaper and then reversed his car from being parallel parked in front of me to sit in the street blocking traffic to ask for my phone number...no way, he's married...he wouldn't move until I gave him my number (I gave him a fake one so he would not get killed in rush hour traffic) he was so wasted, I was not surprised when he got a DUI months later...
