Blind Item #3
This drummer of a three person band who is one of the top bands of all-time has more money than he could ever spend. Did he spend it on his nephew when his nephew was dying of leukemia? Nope. Not one penny. He wanted nothing to do with it or death and told his sister that he was not going to help her or his nephew. The nephew died. Think about that when he is out promoting a new record.
Dave grohl
ReplyDelete@HJ Nooooo. I mean, Grohl seems to fit. But still, noooo. :(
DeleteOuch. What in the world?!
ReplyDeleteNeal Peart of rush?
ReplyDeleteI'd say Grohl too, not sure why.
ReplyDeleteTre Cool from Green Day? I just hate imagining that Dave Grohl would be such a dick.
ReplyDeleteNo way could it be Tre. He's a dad himself and is really close to his sister, Lori.
DeleteSeems like something Lars Ulrich of Metallica would do. They're a 3 person band, right?
ReplyDeleteNo they are not.
DeleteJesus. Wasn't expecting this one...
ReplyDeleteGreen Day drummer
ReplyDeleteI think Dave has been a reveal for a kindness blind. Not sure though and of course that doesn't mean he is an angel, but the dude seems like a nice guy, can't imagine it being him:(
ReplyDeleteNot Dave grohl
ReplyDeleteNot Dave grohl
ReplyDelete4 people in Metallica. (Kirk-James-Robert-Lars)
ReplyDeletePhil Collins? He's the drummer of genesis...
ReplyDeleteTico Torres from Bon Jovi? Now that Sambora is MIA half the time they're kind of a 3-person band right now...
ReplyDeleteNot Peart. He lost his daughter to a car accident and his first wife to cancer.
ReplyDeleteHe seems nice. I'd hate to think it. But he popped into my head. Probably the money comment. (nirvana $$)
ReplyDeleteTravis Barker
ReplyDeleteWhich could've hardened his heart, I suppose. But I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteUgh. That hurts my heart.
ReplyDeleteUgh...please not Dave Grohl. The times that I've met him he has seemed like such a truly nice guy.
ReplyDeleteSince Dave Grohl is more than just a drummer, I'm hoping it's not him. Wouldn't Enty have said former?
ReplyDeleteThe Foo Fighters is one of the top bands of all time?
ReplyDeleteWhoops, forgot he was in Nirvana.
ReplyDeleteOr anyone for that matter. God, what a fucking arsehole.
ReplyDeletesomething seems off about this story
ReplyDeleteHow about Stewart Copeland of the Police?
ReplyDeleteNot Dave Grohl. Enty would have implied something to the effect of "(not so much) the nicest guy in rock-n-roll" because that's how he's mostly known. Plus he used to live around my area and IS very generous. Also with Them Crooked Vultures he played The Teenage Cancer Trust in England
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty positive it's not Dave Grohl. He is pretty generous, and there isn't a new album coming out officially.
ReplyDeleteSo, other options are:
"Chad Smith and the Chili Peppers will wrap up their I'm With You World Tour in April 2013. The band will take a break before writing music for their eleventh studio album, which Smith said will be around September 2013."
The Chili Peppers are 4 people.
DeleteI really hope we are not talking about Dave Grohl and Nirvana..
ReplyDeleteMy bet is on Phil Collins like mentioned by Molly McButter - I think he already has a bit of a reputation as a mega SOB..
And we dont know the whys and wherefores. Family dynamics can be deep and twisted, and what looks awful on the surface may actually a have sound basis in whats gone before.
ReplyDeleteGrohl, Copeland and Collins all have sisters and drummed in a three piece band.
ReplyDeleteTravis Methtats came to mind, for some reason.
ReplyDeleteFoo Fighters are not a 3 person band, and Dave Grohl is NOT the drummer. I would have to go with MUSE.
ReplyDeleteNirvana.
DeletePeople forget Nirvana these days. Wtf
DeleteKids these days. Pffft.
DeleteBut there's no new album. Read the rest of the blind
DeleteSounds fishy, there's got to b more to this story.
ReplyDeleteTravis Barker also has a sister and drums in a three piece band. But I think he has a healthy respect for life after the plane crash, I don't think he'd do something like that.
ReplyDeleteDJ AM theoretically liked "life" too.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what you mean.
DeleteGloria, he was also in Nirvana, though, which I originally forgot.
ReplyDeleteI don't really care how screwed up the family dynamics are. Would you really let someone die because you have twisted family dynamics? This is pretty awful, no matter what the reasons behind it.
Think he just did not want to pay the bills?
DeleteNo way in hell is this Dave Grohl!
ReplyDeleteDave is close with his sister. This is not him.
ReplyDeleteDave is also very generous with his money and time. He actually recently took care of a fan who is dying of cancer. He's an amazing guy.
ReplyDeleteAxl!!! Hi Axl!!! Hi!!!!
ReplyDeleteDave Grohl at the VMA's doing that with Nirvana still cracks me up
They also forget that Pat Smear was also in Nirvana towards the end of the band, which makes it a four piece band. :)
ReplyDeleteDef. NOT Grohl.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Stewart Copeland as well.
RHCP are four piece.
ReplyDeleteI would not describe Muse as one of the top bands of all time. I like the, but no.
ReplyDeleteBlink 182 also not one of the top bands of all time.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many clues, we HAVE to be able to sleuth this one out.
ReplyDeletePlease don't let this be the guy from Rush..
ReplyDeletePhil Collins can't drum anymore, so hopefully this knocks him off the short list.
Too many people in Motley Crew..
I'm outta the loop and out of ideas for drummers.
3 piece bands:
ReplyDeleteRush
The Police
Nirvana
ZZ Top
Green Day
Well, in my defense in forgetting he was in Nirvana, I have a hearing loss in the severe-profound range and, as a result, was never as tuned into music as many people.
ReplyDeleteLes claypool from the band primus
ReplyDeleteNah. He did fundraising for his nephew. Also not one of the biggest bands.
DeleteGreen Day is 4 piece according to wiki.
ReplyDeleteI thought of Ginger Baker of Cream, who apparently is not a very nice guy. What gives me pause, though, is whether he still has that much money and the bit about promoting a new record...
ReplyDeleteGinger Baker is continually broke.
Delete@AuntLiddy and @FancyScreenname, I agree with you. There's a lot more to this story than what we're reading.
ReplyDeletePolice drummer Stuart Copeland's family is very wealthy - his brother Miles founded IRS Records and is still a prominent entertainment executive. If anyone was going to help a member of the family, it would be Miles.
Muse is also a three person group. Could it be Dominic Howard?
ReplyDeleteDave Grohl was a drummer in Nirvana..but he's been lead singer w foo fighters longer
ReplyDeleteAs for Phil Collins, he may well be an asshat, but he comes off really well in this piece where he helps someone write a break-up song.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/339/break-up
Worth a listen if you have time.
I agree there's more to this story.
We also forgot Crosby stills and Nash ( before young),beastie boys ( this ain't them) and Peter Paul and Mary!
ReplyDeleteGinger Baker of Cream
ReplyDeleteV: I must touch you! I love Dave Grohl with every fiber of my being. I have an irrational love for him. Cereal!
ReplyDeleteTherefore, because of said irrational love it is not Dave.
@Sherry- I concur. Dave is my favorite. For no good reason other than he is him.
ReplyDeleteNot.His.Kid. Not his responsibility.
ReplyDeleteAsshole.
DeleteNirvana, blink 182, green day, sublime, zz top all 3 member bands
ReplyDeleteLes Claypool of Primus had a nephew with leukemia...but he supported his brother's family as much as he could...
ReplyDeletelink to article:

I've been looking up Dave's sister Lisa for a half hour and luckily I haven't seen any mentions of kids or a spouse. One interview I read a while back said that at that time she lived with her mother. Enty wouldn't have had to say drummer for a three-piece if he could have said singer in a rock band, right?? Green Day, Blink-182. But an interesting wording choice is when "HE" is out promoting the album. Is there a band in which the drummer is more famous or is the focal point of the band? Usuaully the singer is the one that gets interviewed the most.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the clue is "new record." Blink 182 and their lawyers finally got the threesome back into one room (they recorded their last pitiful effort in separate cities at different times, and it sucked) and the CD should be out in 2013 or 2014.
ReplyDeleteOddly, even I (I'm like 72 years old) find the word "record" impossibly quaint.
Only one I found... Don't know if it works....
ReplyDeletehttp://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/les-claypools-nephew-dies-after-battle-with-infant-lukemia-20130209
I'm going to guess Dominic Howard from Muse...he's known for being a real egomaniac.
ReplyDeleteU2 is also a 3 member band, right? At least it is now. And I don't know about over there, but over here (Europe) they were huge. So maybe Larry Mullen?
ReplyDeleteJust tell us who it is so we can not support him for crying out loud. Little kids should never have to suffer. Ever.
ReplyDelete@L I can attest to the fact that Phil Collins is an SOB. I used to work in the hotel business (15+ years ago @ a 5 star hotel) and he had someone fired. Not a nice guy. Love his music though.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who Les Claypool is but I'll go with him. Or Copeland, he's a dick too.
Stewart Copeland is a great guess. I've heard first hand that he is a colossal douchebag. What a shame, because the Police were great back in the day ... And also, how horrifying to be such a d*&k!
ReplyDeleteLes Claypool is a BASSIST, guys. Seriously. Google. It's your friend.
ReplyDeleteThis has to be Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney.
ReplyDeleteLes Claypool is the bassist, not the drummer, in Primus.
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning towards Peart (an Ayn Rand acolyte and thus perhaps inclined to seeing charity as a waste; Rush is still on tour for their last album) or Stewart Copeland (he can be an ass, although I think that might be just when Sting is around). I don't know that any of Ginger Baker's groups qualify as one of the all-time greats.
Miles Copeland died about 10 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting my Copeland brothers mixed up. Ian Copeland who was the manager of The Police died in 2006. Miles is still very much alive.
ReplyDeleteI just watched a documentary about Ginger Baker the other night and he's broke.
ReplyDeleteGinger Baker was in Cream. Neil Peart has had a bit of a rethink after his personal tragedies. Cool and Copeland are still the best guesses IMO.
ReplyDeleteCream was a good band, but it's time in the limelight was short (three years), and Clapton is probably better known as a solo artist.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Green Day could be considered one of the all time great bands, either, so my vote goes to Copeland then. Thanks for the update on Peart, though it won't make me like Rush.
Wouldn't this have to be an American band? If the nephew lived in Canada or the U.K. his health care costs would be covered. It's usually only in the U.S. that you hear about people raising private funds for medical treatment.
ReplyDeleteThis is obviously supposed to be Dave Grohl, but I don't buy it for a second.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to read up about Cream a supergroup with three of the greatest musicians of all-time.
ReplyDeleteNot Peart, or Phil Collins. Both live in countries with socialized medicine.
ReplyDelete@hothotheat - thanks for sharing the info.. sorry you and your colleagues had to endure the a$$holeness..
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Tom Cruise
ReplyDeleteGreen Day and Phil Collins are listed as supporters on the Children With Leukemia website.
ReplyDelete@sandybrook: I am well aware of who was in Cream and their influence. All the same, they existed for three years and released four albums (half of which was a live album with no new songs). How many songs could the average music fan mention? "Sunshine of Your Love," absolutely. "White Room," almost certainly. "Strange Brew," probably. After that? "Badge," maybe. "Born under a Bad Sign," perhaps.
ReplyDeleteCompare that to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Clapton's own solo work, Van Halen, U2, Metallica, Michael Jackson, etc. I'm not going by musical talent -- I really like Cream -- but by longevity. I just don't see how they get included as one of the all time great bands because they weren't around long enough. Hell, Blind Faith had half of Cream and half of Traffic; they're as much of a supergroup as Cream was.
I went to school where Dave Grohl's from and where his family still lives, and had repeated run-ins with him in lots of different places, not to mention how many people I knew who had his mother for a school teacher, and they all had their stories of how incredibly great he was. Believe the hype, he's the best. There's no way this is him. Nada.
ReplyDeleteStewart Copeland is a *huge* ass and tight as fuck. Back in the 80s, my Dad was part of a local opening act for a Police concert. For some reason or another part of Copeland's kit hadn't made it over the Pacific, so he used my Dad's kit for their set. He broke 6 pairs of sticks and totally thrashed the heads. He disappeared right after they were finished, and didn't even leave the promised autograph much less money for all the damage he had done
ReplyDeleteDidn't Phil Collins divorce his wife by fax or something? Sounds in keeping with that kind of behaviour.
ReplyDeleteLeaning towards the Neil Peart guess. Peart is 60 years old so the sister has to be somewhat close around that age, making the nephew possibly as old as 40's.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, only power trios that are currently producing music are Green Day and WolfMother right?
ReplyDeleteGrohl kinda fits too though. Did Courtney Love tell you this enty? ; )
@Sherry, if you are near Seattle, we can meet, and you can touch :)
ReplyDeleteIve been Lucky enough to share à meal with the man...in my opinion definitely one of the good ones.
My first thought was Neil Peart. Actually, it was Stewart Copeland, but The Police haven't made a record together in years. I hope it's not Peart because I'm a Rush fan, but that fits way more than Dave Grohl, who is a great guy from what I've heard.
ReplyDeleteNo way it is Peart--he lost his daughter in a car crash and his last wife died of cancer. He is remarried now and has a baby girl. He donates to cancer charities--it isn't him. Wouldn't surprise me if it was Stewart Copeland..his reputation for being a pompous ass makes me think it is him.
ReplyDeleteStewart Copeland is worth $80 mil. But he does mostly movie themes now, right?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.complex.com/music/2012/08/heres-a-list-of-the-30-richest-drummers-in-the-world/stewart-copeland
Add me to the list saying no effing way on Peart. The man lost a wife to cancer and his family was his support system.
ReplyDeleteOne name that hasn't come up: Frank Beard of ZZ Top. I don't know his rep, but he is the drummer of a three piece. Although I am down with the Copeland guess.
Nope. NOT Dave Grohl. He's my rock 'n roll Jesus. ;)
ReplyDelete
