11 Year Old Girl Escapes Arranged Marriage

The most amazing 11 year old girl you will ever see. Imagine what she had to go through to be able to escape.

  4. This girl is very wise beyond her years. Quite amazing for a child deprived of education and so young. I hope she is safe now and they can't get to her. This woman's mother should be shot. I can't imagine being scared of your own parents. At least her uncle is trying to keep her safe.

  5. It's hard to blame the mothers since they themselves went thru this themselves.

The little girl for being 11 years old she talks like an adult. I do hope she is safe and hopefully will have a happy childhood.

  6. I hope she finds happiness and safety. I also pray for her uncle and the people that helped her. They are all brave. Poor girl. So wise. There's no doubt that life for her as made her wise beyond her years.

  7. @Crila. I don't think she is deprived of an education now. It's that she would be if she married now.
She does like a really smart and brave girl though. She ought to get all the chances she deserves.

  8. What a brave and inspiring girl, I wish her the best. 2013 folks, and little girls are still being forced into marriage.

  9. Reminds me of the 8 or 9 year old in Yemen awhile back. Somehow managed to get out, go into a courtroom and patiently wait all day til the judge finally noticed her and asked her what she wanted. The judge was shocked when she said she wanted a divorce.

Her unspeakably disgusting husband had consummated the marriage many times over and beat her when she cried.

These amazing girls are mature and brave well beyond their years.....I have nightmares about the thousands we never hear about.

  10. Who are these horrible men who want to marry children? How are they not ashamed to be raping little girls?

  11. The women are treated so badly, beatings are probably the norm, they are so repressed they are unable to fight for their daughters. Such pitiful men they are to treat their women like they do. I have nothing against others, but have told my daughter to stay away from Muslim men because they don't respect any women, even their wives...

  13. I am so fucking tired of these Middle Eastern assholes and their cruelty. And equally tired of the gutless governments around the world that won't stand up to them.

Good for her. I hope her face on the news helps her to be safe from her family and their "honor".

Sadly, another girl didn't have so much luck and died of internal injuries after rape by her husband at 13.

But then again, Mo, the uswa hasana, had a favorite wife who was 9 and pre-pubescent when he raped her for the first time. (That is why since Khomenei girls are considered adults at age 9 in Iran.) Marrying and having sex with pre-pubescent girls is also allowed in the Quran (Q 65:4 + Q 33:49), so there is resistance from the religious leaders and fundies towards raising the age of consent in Yemen.

  17. Religion of peace, they are like us. My ass.

  18. I want just want to hug her and protect her and keep her safe. No child should have anyone try to rob them of their innocence and childhood like that. That is disgraceful!

  19. Well THAT just sent me off on a 20 minute Facebook-sharing-o-rama... I bow to her greatness...

  20. She is truly special. I wish her all good things in her life journey.

  21. Sadly the young boys get raped as well. JUST LIKE THEY GET RAPED HERE. Making it about people from the Middle East is just plain ignorant. The global rape habit has been in style for millenia.

Wake up and look around you. Do a Google.

  22. Some senators in the Nigerian senate are trying to pass a law that will remove the age limit on marriage, making it legal to marry underage children. Quite sick and disheartening. Why would you want to marry a child and why would you let some old man marry your baby girl?

  23. Exactly SophiaB. It's much more publicized and prevalent with the little girls but it happens everywhere every day.

That being said, I am glad and pray that she is safe and protected. Girls are 8, 9, 11 14 are too young to be married and especially to someone 2-3 times their age. Sad.

I worked with a woman who was a victim of D. V when she came here as an illegal refugee. She had been genitally mutilated & in an internment camp at the age of 12 was married to a man in his 50's to avoid the daily raping she and her sisters were subjected to. She came here and ended up working with other Sudanese women and girls as an advocate. Oh, and she was H. I. V positive, as was her daughter (8 years old) due to rape. We have NO idea what people go through. Puts it into perspective.

  25. Tangentially related... the Norwegian woman arrested for rape* in Dubai has been pardoned. Awesome! I kind of figured they'd cave with all the international pressure. They love their woman-hatin' laws, but thankfully, they love the money of travelers even more.

*Rape, as in she was the victim, not the rapist. The actual rapist was also pardoned.

  26. D'oh! I scrolled down two entries and found Enty talking about the same, how the Norwegian rape victim was pardoned by the UAE.
