This Woman Does Not Want To Be Interviewed

When your 16 year old daughter gets shot at a party, maybe you don't feel like having news reporters shoving cameras in your face asking you how you feel. That being said, throwing things and releasing the hounds is too much and the woman was arrested. Chances are very high she will be on Tosh soon. ABC6 - Providence, RI and New Bedford, MA News, Weather

  1. I don't blame her at all. Reporters do not have the right to harass victims. The reporter should be ashamed. This woman's daughter was shot and she just had to get the story? What an asshole.

  2. You don't blame her? Throwing rocks, getting a baseball bat and siccing her dogs on a reporter? The responsible thing to do is to call the police if they are trespassing. This kind of response is completely unacceptable.

  3. Go inside the house, lock the door & call the police.

  4. That reporter is a shitty journalist. She should be fired.

  5. When she's been harassed on her own property? Yeah, I'm on the woman's side, and Channel 6 should be ashamed to have run the story at all.

  6. "Ya white bitch!" Lol!

  7. Sorry, the reporter was on public property and since she was informing the woman that the kid who shot her child had turned himself in, you'd think she'd be happy. No excuse to throw rocks and certainly illegal to set the pit bulls on the news crew. I read the local story - when she was brought into court for arraignment she was wearing a T shirt that said, "My attitude is your problem". No sympathy for her here.

  8. a simple 'no comment' would of sufficed. Putting two pitt bulls on a woman is dangerous and negligent. This is how pitt bulls get a bad rap, bad owners.

  9. Yeah, everybody blaming the woman, how about we come and stand on the sidewalk five feet from your home and shout insulting, insensitive questions at you, and defiantly refuse when you tell us to leave you alone?

Yeah, I've already sent an outraged e-mail calling for the reporter's firing to the station's official contact address as listed on their FCC Filings: jmethia@abc6.com, and I urge anyone with a conscience to do the same.

  10. That reporter is making it out that she's the poor little victim. I bet it's been edited to make it seem that there was no time between the reporter first talking and the rock throwing.

While I don't condone rock throwing and sicing dogs, the mother was probably beside herself with being harassed. The reporter should have left right after the rock being thrown.

  11. msgirle is so right! The tape is clearly edited in favor of the reporter! When it cuts back to the homeowner sometimes shes on the phone other times she isn't. Things they said that incited her are for sure cut out.

  12. I don’t understanding how it is OK to ambush a victim’s family. You should contact the family first to see if they are up for an interview, not just show up.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Susan, you thought she'd be happy by having a camera shoved in her face? There is a police department to let her know if any arrests had been made.

The reporter was obviously egging her on and there is no footage before the rock being thrown showing if this woman requested she leave. The reporter asks before the rock is thrown "are you going to throw rocks?". She says they are leaving but sticks around because it will make for good tv when she goes for the bat.

It doesn't make it ok but the reporter wasn't ambushed, she had ample time to leave before things escalated.

  14. I'll guarantee, the station edited out the mother telling the reporter to go away and leave her alone, that that happened well before a rock was thrown or anything else, and I'd be pretty surprised if she didn't tell them that more than once.

The reporter decided getting their ratings was more important than a mother grieving the most crushing loss it's possible for a mother to feel, and then, denied a juicy, tearful quote, they decided to punish the grieving mother with a slanted news report on the air.

I'm pretty sure people in New Bedford are smarter than that -- and smarter than a lot of people commenting here. They won't buy it. The only question is, will that translate into the public making the station pay in lost ratings?

    1. The child was not murdered, she was shot in the lower back and is already at home. Not that I don't agree with some of your comments, but she did not pass away.

  15. My issue with this is not whether the reporter had a right to stand where she was, or whether the mother was wrong for throwing things at her. The bigger issue is this: the news director at ABC 6 was irresponsible for choosing to air the video. As a former reporter, I can tell you this was a selfish attempt on the part of the news station to gain attention for THEMSELVES. Journalism these days isn't so much about the story anymore...it's about what can get ratings and go viral, and this video is an example about this. Very sad.

    1. @Marisa I agree with what you said about what passes as journalism these days. And this is why the Murdochs of the world continue to reign.

  16. As was said earlier, go in the house, lock the door and call the police if she didn't want them asking questions. And no, the sidewalk in front of your home is not your property - it belongs to the state or local municipality that owns the road.

Do I think the video is edited? Sure. Do I feel bad for the reporter, not particularly. But, and it is a big but, there is a difference in not feeling bad for the reporter and condoning the activity.

And Mr. Sheehan, the sidewalk isn't her property and she didn't have to stand there with the microphone in her face. She could have walked into her home.

I hate lawyers, but I would damn sure sue the lady for siccing the dogs. That was completely uncalled for, murdered child or not.

And the white bitch comment? Real nice.

Her daughter is in the hospital recovering. She didn't suffer any loss.

In any case, if someone won't leave you alone, you remove yourself from the situation; you don't throw rocks and sic dogs on people.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The only issue I have with what the lady did is she should have given the asshat reporter warning that the dogs would be set on her if she didn't leave. Other than that, I have no problem with it.

  19. At any point, the woman could have walked inside the house and shut the door. The reporter was on public property the entire time. Plus, it's a public story that the public has a right to know about. It's black letter law.

On top of that, pit bulls are (fairly or not) known for attacking people. This woman will be charged with assault.

Anyone who says this woman was within her rights is a moron. Sorry, but it's true. What the reporter did may have been very insensitive, but the mother is absolutely on the wrong side of the law.

  20. @Nightowl

If you can't spell "Sheen," a five-letter word, when it's right in front of you, I have little hope of engaging you in meaningful discussion.

It is fun, though, watching you and others line up to declare yourselves dumber than the residents of New Bedford, so go on, please.

  22. Agree with posters who say everyone is in the wrong here. However, you don't keep poking a bear with a stick an expect nothing bad to happen. This doesn't appear to be a woman who makes well-considered decisions regularly, let alone in a time of distress. The reporter should have backed off. I'm fine with her getting more than she bargained for. She's damn lucky she didn't get killed. Unfortunately, her professional stock has probably risen with this. :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. No Mr. Sheen, you won't engage because you cannot debate facts. You use excuses like a misspelling to avoid intellectual discussions. No problem, I don't like embarrassing people in front of their friends.

  24. What surprises me the most is that cameras were present.
Most pitbull owners allow their dogs to do harm when it's NOT being filmed.

    Hellooooo Mr. Vick

  25. You can take them out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the person. Then again, I'm not even sure she isn't living in the ghetto. The way some people behave truly astonishes me at times....it is like they were raised by feral animals. horrifying.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also, JAS- no one was killed. The mother isn't "grieving". On top of everything else you know taxpayers are paying for her hospital stay so she should put up or shut up. With the amount of public funds she likely receives I am hard pressed to even call her house "private" and not "public" property.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So which is the ghetto woman Katie? I know the behavior the reporter truly astonished me as well.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree that the woman over-reacted here, but the reporter is in the wrong for trying to capitalize on and sensationalize the tragedy this family was experiencing, and the station was in the wrong for airing this. If their intentions truly were to "help" this woman, they would have had some decency and not aired this catastrophe. They went to her home to capitalize on her circumstances and got exactly what they wanted. No one needs a reporter to inform them of developments in a criminal investigation-the police and/or your attorney will take care of that.

  29. Did ANYONE else notice on the video that the pitties were chasing her around in PLAY? They nipped at her in excitement, but their body language was that of excitement and play. I think it's hilarious that she acts like she was in danger.

  30. Rose, I would say the person getting violent and siccing her pitbulls (also a ghetto dog breed) is the ghetto one. The reporter is just doing her job, legally I might add.

  31. long time lurker, first time poster and I am from right outside Providence where this happened:

To clarify, the area where this woman lives is what we here in RI like to call the "hood". The woman wore a t-shirt to court after she was arrested and arraigned that said "My attitude is YOUR problem". Her daughter was shot and in the hospital, and the shooter had been caught, which is why the reporter was going to her house to begin with to get a reaction. I have no sympathy for this woman, except that her daughter was shot.

Regardless of whether the woman was angry or not, she could have simply said no comment and gone inside. The reporter was on public property. Yes, she probably should've just left, but there is absolutely no justification for throwing rocks, getting a baseball bat, and siccing your dogs on somebody.

No one deserves it and I'm surprised that anyone would say that kind of behavior is okay. And unfortunately, this behavior is not uncommon in South Providence.

I agree with everyone who said, they both behaved badly. I understand the woman being upset and angry. I don't think it was a good idea to let out the dogs, use profanity, etc. And it does seem like the station is just using both of these women for attention. You can go to a preschool and watch toddlers fight and scream any day of the week, I don't care to watch it on the news.

  35. Thanks for the welcome! Reading for years, this is the first time I think this is the first time we are talking about RI, except for stupid Taylor Swift and her Westerly mansion. Her house is right next to the beach I frequent!

I think this is what happens when you glorify aggression; the shoot first, ask questions later mentality. The woman was angry and, defensive, and lashed out before thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow. I hope no one ever shoots your child and then you are ambushed at your house by a hack ass reporter pouring salt into your wounds. But if it does happen, I hope I am there to see you all who are defending the reporter who is capitalizing on someone's misery, handle it with grace, as I am sure you will perfectly, considering your impeccable ability to judge others in times of distress.

    ReplyDelete
  38. So much trash! How many feral animals are out there raising humans?!?!?!

First the person who had the party. Who invites shooters to a party? SMH!
Shooters! Who thinks shooting people at a kids party is appropriate?
Camera man is filming! Nobody wants to see this.
Someone sent that reporter and camera to the house. Those folks don't get to choose assignments.
Reporter is all kinds of messed up. Agree she should be fired.
Greiving mother - why isn't she at the hospital?

Pit Bulls win. They behaved better than anyone. Agree they wanted to play and were not agressive.

  40. Is there an elephant in the room? If the situation were reversed and a white mother hurled a racial slur at a black reporter, everyone would be up in arms.

  41. @__-__=__ ++++++

Also, what makes anyone believe that she did not ask the reporter to leave before the raucous behavior? That tape was heavily edited to favor that asshole reporter, which it didn't even do because she looks like an idiot.
Where I am from, you ask politely, insist directly, and if that doesn't work, you sic a dog. Not saying that is what happened here, but the editing of the tape doesn't lend credence to this sensational and despicable example of "journalism".

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh...and I bet there is more to this story. It is obvious the reporter was there to bring good news and get what was expected to be a joyful reaction that justice was on its way for her daughter.

I am wondering if the person arrested was someone she didn't want arrested...a relative, etc...?

  43. Sorry Gypsy, where I am from you ask politely, demand politely and then you call the police. You do NOT throw rocks, you do NOT grab a baseball bat and you do NOT sic your dogs on a reporter. Keep digging yourself into the classless hole you've dug.

  44. Okay, one of those dogs BIT the woman, are some of you forgetting that? That is not okay and is not funny. I've owned Am. Staff's and this only makes it worse for the "pit bull" breeds. The dogs are going to be euthanized because of this low class woman who couldn't just go inside and shut the door. Thanks South Providence, giving the rest of the USA something else to laugh about our state for, not like we don't have enough crap going on.

    1. We are forgetting that the dog bit the woman and you've seemed to forget that the other woman's daughter was shot. But you're right a dog bite is much more important then a 16 year old being put in the hospital. We should all be more high class like you & this reporter and focus on the really important issues.
